Ginny---no, it was a 4 legged animal, and the paw size we saw was really large, but hard to read in the loose sand. I used the name "Bigfoot" jokingly, b/c from the noise the animal made it just seemed large, LOL. It was probably stupid of us to sit out in the dark, right by the spring where the desert animals come from miles around to drink, at night. As a hiker, I've been following reports and studies of mountain lion population here in SoCal. As development encroaches more on wilderness, the lion population is losing territory, and there are increasing numbers of attacks on people. There was a really scary one about a year ago wherein a lion attacked 2 bicyclists, killing and partially eating one of them, in a nearby wilderness park, one right after the other. I won't hike alone for that reason. It's just too dangerous. Liz
