Don - most honest ENTs these days will tell you that CPAP is the best treatment for sleep apnea. Somnoplasties were very big about 10 years or so ago but the outcomes were relatively poor - i.e. it didn't take away the sleep apnea for a lot of patients. If your tonsils and adenoids are particularly large and they think that they may be causing obstruction, they may consider removing them though it seems to be getting rarer these days. If you haven't before, you may want to go see an ENT to have it evaluated and see if removal may be an option for you.
Of course, losing weight also helps with sleep apnea - so you're already on your way to improving things already! ;)
