Tami, there are DVD players. You can also borrow movies from the library to play in your room even though the interactive TV has tons of movies to watch.

Thanks Karen. I doubt we'll be watching much TV, since the itinerary is so port intensive, but it's nice to know I can get those workouts in before I ruin all my hard work with all the food I'll be eating!!

Tami, which DVD exercise videos do you recommend? I'm traveling so much that this would be a good alternative for me.

Thanks!

Donna, I do mostly interval workouts and I've recently started doing some bootcamp style workouts as well. My knees aren't the greatest, so I have to be careful about how much high impact is involved. I order all my DVDs through a great online company, that has literally hundreds of DVDs to choose from. I'm not sure I'm supposed to post their info here, so if you'd like more info, please email me and I'll give you the details.

Since you have all been so helpful answering my other (often silly, I'm sure) questions, I was hoping you could help clear up the "tips included" issue for me. I undertand that the fare includes all tips, but is it common or normal to tip people who give you personalized service, such as the bartenders or people who deliver your room service? I just think I would feel a little "chintzy" if I didn't pass along a few bucks whenever getting a drink at the bar, or whenever someone brings something to my cabin. And at the end of the cruise, does anyone tip a little extra to their cabin steward or waiter? I don't want to do it if it is really out of place...but don't want to not do it if it is appropriate.

Whew! Glad I asked. Okay, so what is this crew fund, and how does one go about making a contribution to it?

Tami, who knows what it is, but it benefits all the crew, rather than just your steward/stewardess in your cabin. They use this for many things I have heard about, bikes on board for them to use? Air tickets home for emergencies, all sorts of stuff, and it benefits the workers, not the officers to my knowlege. All good. But YOUR choice. Just do what makes you feel good, but cash tips are certainly not "expected".

I've always tipped for room service..just a few dollars..I just wouldn't feel comfortable not doing so.

Why tip? They specifically state that all tips are included. In Asia, where there is no tipping, it is an affront to leave money as a tip.

Thanks, everyone (and especially to jhp, who has responded both here and to my queries on Cruise Critic regarding the dress code). It sounds as if a nice contribution to the crew fund, as well as the occasional tip for extra special service, is in order, assuming the service is up to par. And from what I am reading, I will be blown away by the service, and everything else, on Regent.

Hi Tami -

On our first REgent cruise, we tipped our room stewardess and later quickly found out that Regent discourages this very strongly. Their employees are well paid, unlike the mass market lines, and so we now contribute to the above mentioned crew fund, knowing that it helps everyone. We usually do this a day or so before the end of the cruise and we try to make a nice contribution. If we are onboard for more than a week, I will often buy our room stewardess flowers about half way thru the trip, but other than that, we stick with the crew fund.

We're expecting our first big snowstorm this weekend here in the Sierras. Upwards of two feet where we live, with more in the higher elevations. I hate cold weather (am from coastal Georgia...how I got here is a discussion best left over a couple of chocolate martinis), and the only thing keeping me going through this is the knowledge that the cruise is less than 2 months away. Thank you, Todd, for reminding me of that!!! cheer

Docs? We still get docs?? Since you don't need to have anything from the docs for check in now, why do we need docs? All excursions are booked (still waitlisted for parasailing :( ) and dinner reservations made....so why docs?

Maybe if they came in a rosewood box...

.............

:lct:

I better call Arlene and see if ours have arrived. :D

No "docs" for us yet, either, Frank.

Actually, I totally forgot about docs.

Tami! I'm so envious that you have such great skiing near you. I have to drive 200 miles to Maine and it's, well, Maine... little mountains. But, we have fun.

However, heading to Vail and Beaver Creek for a week next Friday. They are getting great early season snow there too. So, we're psyched.
