Any truth to the rumor floating on CC that Cap't Dag is going over to the new Seabourn ship Sojourn?

WOW Jean, I sure hope not? I haven't heard this. I am sorry that Handré left Regent and is now with Seabourn. He was such a fun asst. CD when we cruised with him.

I am curious about this rumor. I haven't seen any mention of Captain Dag leaving Regent anywhere on the CC Board. Can you please clarify, because this is going to upset a lot of people if it's true.

Thanks,

I'm anxious meet Barry Hopkins ~~also his Assn. CD, Handre.
It seems a few of Regent's staff is now joining Seabourn ~~a rumor I heard recently is Regent's Captain Dag Dvergastein (Norwegian) has applied with Seabourn. (perhaps as the Sojourn Master?)

We all enjoy dabbling in "rumors" - I looked at SB 6 yrs ago knew it was not MY cup of tea, too formal etc. I know, however, many nice folks from here cruise SB they just tend to be an uptight anal group, but likeable..Dag is such a fun free spirit who knows???

In my last e-mail from Dag, he said he would drive the Voyager to the drydock in Genoa. Wasn't sure he would be there the whole time as another captain would also be there. He plans to make his reunion cruise this summer to Norway, but didn't know what his schedule would be after that.

I tend not to believe rumors, but with all the personnel changes on Regent, this one may happen. I have never sailed with Dag, but I know how much he is loved and respected. They already lost Knut from the Voyager, losing Dag also would be catastrophic.

While no one would like to see Dag leave Regent all need to realize that Regent is a company that will survive. It is more important that Dag does what is best for his career and family. We should be supportive of both Regent and Dag with what ever the outcome. In my business life I came to understand that often there are many aspects of such changes that are more complicated than one realizes on the surface.

Ralph, you're right. This would not be the end of the world as we know it. I've never met Dag, had sailed with Knut twice and thought he was nice, and like McNeill quite a lot, but as long as the captains are competent and personable, I think we can withstand some change.

Agree with Wendy and Ralph - life is full of changes and losing Dag not end all - we enjoyed him very very much but to tell you the truth I can't remember which Capts on which cruises - some are friendly, some aloof, as long as they handle the ship all I care about for my cruise ...I thought Capt for Samba was outstanding, John O'Neill, SOOO personable and down to earth

I'm with you, Joanna. Nice to know the captains but not necessary. Change happens in every industry. I say "go with the flow."

I don't think there is anyone on LCT who could choose a cruise primarily because of the captain. The sky would not fall in nor would the world as we know it come to an end. When Captain Guillou was retired it broke my heart but cruising continues.

Correct, Ardis.

Every word Ralph wrote strikes my feelings as well. Particularly that we know nothing about what is beneath the surface of any change for both the employer and the employee, doesn't matter whether it is an officer or a bartender.

As long as I have a competent and reasonably personable captain, I am fine. The other service personnel make a far more significant impact on my cruise experience.

Ditto Olivia...we never were cozy with the Officers/Capt - why I cannot remember names - they all looked good in those uniforms BUT could care less about names as long as they steered the ship in right direction :D editing to say we all have "expectations" from Regent employees and looks like John Baron rated an A plus...he is the BEST

Agree with above posters! There are some Captains I remember because of a conversation or fun event. In the long run - I want to get where I'm supposed to be safely. And I trust that Regent will do that whicever Captain is at the helm. Cruising for us is vacation - for Regent and Regent employees it's a business.

I guess I have a bit of a different perspective re Captains. As a former ship driver I can really appreciate a Captain who not only drives the ship and looks out for his crew; but is out and about with the pax. It takes a special kind of person to do all of that well. Guillou, Dag, and Broomhall all do/did it well.If Dag goes to Seabourn, or any other line, we'll follow( as long as I can have a smoke in peace ). If he decides to retire we'll wish him fair winds and following seas. Job well done!

I just wonder what is going on with all these departures of excellent staff from Regent. "The cruising world wonders", to mash a phrase.

It seems apparent that Apollo wants their own people in rather than having to retrain old personnel.

I asked Mark Conroy about the rumor. Although Dag has been courted by Seabourn, Conroy said Dag is staying with Regent out of loyalty to him and the company. Tom.
