Went to weight my back pack with my lap top..nothing else.

11.4 lbs (I did curse..please feel free to supply dialog)

So, clearly I need a lighter backpack.... I can only wear so much. I love Tumi, but they are heavy.

With the 11 lbs carry on restriction, I've decided to throw in one of those fold up bags for my bag on the BA-Ushuaia flight. All my necessities: camera, netbook and meds should (fingers crossed) be under weight. My carry on for the International flight will be my second checked bag.

I need to fit into someone's carryon. I'll pay the extra weight charge. Just get me on this trip.

I needed a pair anyway. So I killed two birds with one stone.
I found what I was looking for at Dick's in NY in early Nov. Not being in a rush, I did not buy them then. Over the turkey holiday while we were in AZ, I found a coupon for Dick's. A quick visit to the Tucson Dick's reinforced regional differences. They didn't have the exact same model. While the NY boots focused on warmth and dryness, in AZ there were also snake proof! Not a feature I need for this trip.
I bought them in NY.

Doug et al; thanks for all the advice. Since returning from CANADA, I have not had a chance to relax and get ready for Antarctica. I am up by 0500 and in office by 0545 not getting home until after 1700 sometimes later. I am somewhat glad that I won't be able to get much in the way of work done while on Silver Explorer. I am farming out my responsibilities so I can actually relax.

Still, I need to find time to figure out what to pack and do a test run. First, we probably need to download the photos from CANADA. :)

Great pin. Hard to wait to start this adventure.

The more I ponder the luggage weight restrictions the more I am inclined to have a second bag (third bag between Brayden and I )to check for the BA to Ushuaia flight. Would just seem to avoid the issue of being over weight. No issue to BA from US as the weight limit is 50 lbs. Just provides the additional flexibility of packing, me thinks. Would check the smaller roller bag that I can carry on for the US to BA to US flights.

Are many others planning on the extra bag.

I will check my carry on bag as 2nd bag on charter. Will only carry on a large tote with make-up, meds, Kindle Fire, docs & point/shoot camera on board. Do hope I can carry my pillow on. I am in a tiny cabin so no room to store extras. My 1st piece of cold weather gear arrived yesterday - LL Bean aviator hat. Thought I would sweat to death just walking upstairs to model for Clay. :) I think I am going to look like a "dude" in all this stuff.

Do you folks think it is one carryon plus a personal item like a purse? If so, you guys can carry a man bag.

I am planning to take a second bag...we always bring an empty...just in case...we've had broken bags, needed to adjust, or a place for the new shoes.

I say, if you want more luggage, Ralph, just bring it and pay the fee if needed. Nothing like feeling you don't have all the stuff you need, when you have already paid this much for a cruise. It is a blip in the big picture. Of course most of what is said on this thread is all about photo gear. I just remember having a couple of big suitcases on my cruise, as one got lost on the way home. So I must have felt the need for more.

Kim, Just like Arlene, we have wanted to do this trip forever, but had to pass it up when folks went in the past as we never had enough time to do it as work interfered. This year, we are blowing my whole vacation on this trip and it is finally a reality.

Kim, I'm thinking of donating it to you for your Vail skiing trips each year. I'll borrow it back if I ever go to the Arctic. You made me realize I'll have to train an entire new bar crew to bring me those pina coladas. It shouldn't take long. Hope the weather doesn't have me needing Irish Coffee instead.

Betty, you're right, it shouldn't take long. You and I are both very adept at training bar crews! HOWEVER, when you do the Arctic, Alce and I would love to join you , not just swap the hat!!!

OK, I have to say that our dining room has taken on it's winter mode and could compete with any of you ZODIACrs.... Got all the ski clothes, two pairs skis, one snowboard, ski and snowboard boots (both equipped with heaters this year), helmets, poles, gloves, mittens with installed wrist braces, down liners, waterproof shells, fleece mid-layers, moisture wicking base layers, etc, etc, etc ... This is due to having returned one week ago from 9 nights in Vail and getting ready to go back on 12/24 for 9 more nights.

Lots of thin layers that wick away moisture, a warm mid layer of fleece, and a waterproof shell --- that's our recommendation for all you lucky ZODIACrs.

My apartment gets really warm for some reason. So yes, the AC is on!

My family doctor prescribed the patch for rough seas and I picked them up today. The pharmacist recommended I try one out before I leave to see if I have an allergic reaction. They last for 3 days. Not supposed to drink while on the patch.....yea, like that's going to happen!

I went to fill my prescription for the patch and all the local pharmacies are out of stock. Uh-oh :eek:
I hope meclizine works as well.

Why don't you just get the pill form, scopace? No side effects for me, same active ingredient.

I think that's what I'll do.

THe side effects are less and the protection just as good (I am told) if you put the patch on your stomach area instead of behind the ear. Personally I have ordered DRAKE LAKE but always good to be prepared.

Ngaire, does Silversea have Bonine at reception as on Regent? I have needed it only once so I don't want to get an Rx if I don't need it. I have experienced a 44 degree roll on a cruiser before without problems so I feel pretty confident that I will be fine.
