I have not flown into Paris for sometime so just looked at the options for the tranfser from the airport to the hotel.

AMA charges $40 per person for a transfer from the airport to the hotel. If you wish to do this we need to get your air arrival details.

However there are good options to do it yourself for less. There is an airport bus and also a train. The train is in the airport so easily accessible but it can be difficult with luggage. Plus of course a taxi.

Ngaire, We reserved an 8 person van from CDG to our hotel by the Eiffel Tower in September 2007 and I believe it cost us 17 Euro pp.

They did private tours around Paris and Versaille,etc and we could not have been more pleased with their courteous service.

Eight of us did a three weeks on a wine tour
Four nights in Paris...2 weeks in Provence and then for more nights back in Paris (Louvre side).
City tours were our main transportation.

I'm willing to share taxi or van with anyone coming in around 10:30 a.m. Dec. 3. (US Air) There are so many terminals at CDG.

Olivia is right there are a lot of terminals at CDG and a long distance from one another. It is difficult to connect with people who come in internationally on different flights. So many delays, customs lines vary a lot just within a few minutes if you hit a couple of 747s, different areas of the airport to try and find each other. If anyone is on the same plane it sure makes a difference. If you are delayed then you are all delayed.

Be happy to share with anyone on this flight but spent too many hours in an airport trying to connect with different flights.

Olivia for one person you may be well advised to do the AMA transfer. $40 is not a bad price for one person to get picked up at the airport and delivered to the hotel.

Ngaire, thus my comment about there being so many terminals as well (and they are not close). I hate CDG, have had to transfer from domestic terminals to international more than once, and it was a pain. Once had to spend the night b/c of getting there 40 minutes before flight.

I will send you email reminder to put me on the AMA transfer list.

We're actually leaving tomorrow for AMA Europe Heartland Cruise (first 1/2 is very similar to PARIS).

A cab will run approximately 40 Euros. If people are in couples, cab would be cheaper than the AMA transfer. We're taking a cab.

Train and Bus (operated by Air France and drops you off by the Opera - cost is something like 17 Euros per person) are possible alternatives. Although I don't really suggest them since you're all travelling with bags and you'd have to take a cab upon arrival in the city.

Train can be a bit risky with all the pickpockets in Paris (beware in general), I have a Flyertalk friend who had his laptop bag (along with his passport) stolen on the train in from CDG.

By the way, I believe that AMA is now using the Crowne Plaza on Rue Republique as the host hotel now (since the Paris Hilton has closed). We've got to get ourselves over there on Mon for the transfer to Trier. We're staying at the Park Hyatt (booked in a suite) on points since the Crowne Plaza's effective rate through AMA is $500 a night.

I called AMA, because my daughter, not on the cruise, is with me for the weekend. Yes, Crown Plaza Republique is the hotel for PARIS.

Just arrived in Paris - cab fare was 45 Euro (50 with tip). For most cabs 4 people & luggage will be tight since there are a few small minivan cabs but many are Toyota Prius.

Question:
Is there a shuttle service available in Paris
which we could make arrangements for travel from
CDG to the hotel cheaper than using the cruise transfer, Taxi, or train??
Just thinking that I'm sure the cruise transfer would wait for a group before leaving the airport so something similar could be done with a private
shuttle.

NOTE:
After writing this I googled shuttle services from Paris France airports and got lots of information!!
On one it was 92.00 euros for 4 people. Private corporate shuttle. 127.00 euros for 6.
I'm thinking this looks reasonable to me.

Jim, you can take the RER train to Gare du Nord and then transfer to the Number 5 Metro. I know coming up the RER at Gare du Nord there is an escalator. I would think that there are escalators also to get to Metro 5 and then at
Republique station.

Here is a good description of how to make the trip. I believe it is 8,40 Euros for the ticket. You can use same ticket on Metro.

I would not take the RER in Paris with luggage. The train was overfull and people were jammed in. We were on the RER and twice there were muggings (in one week!) and one was a tourist with luggage. When we did a cruise out of Monte Carlo a couple was mugged on the train on the way to the ship - passports and luggage.

I emphatically agree with Kathy that if one has luggage it would be a mistake to take the RER.

The RER trains are regular commuter trains from the suburbs into Paris and are often extremely crowded. The RER system is not in any way similar (other than being a train) to dedicated city-to-airport trains such as the Heathrow Express or Narita Express. I have made many trips around the Paris area in RER trains but never with more than a briefcase (when working) or camera case (when playing), onto both of which I held tightly.

It is much more practical and safe to use either a taxi or one of the transfer services to get from CDG into the city. When calculating costs, bear in mind that if the shuttle bus does not go to your hotel, then you will have to take a taxi from the shuttle terminal to your hotel.

The shuttle services I have been looking at say
they take you from CDG directly to your hotel.

I am also looking at shuttle service from Amsterdam to the airport for our return flight December 15th.
