Everyone ready for Jeanne?
I think the "prime of Miss Jeanne" will be Saturday night into Sunday. Can anyone say "another wasted weekend?" :(
This one is so far out and the track is so uncertain that it is hard to take it too seriously; even when the current forecast track goes right over the top of your house with hurricane force winds!
Time to fill up the gas tank and bring in the patio furniture....oh what a fun summer.
Marc
PS I know many of our fellow cruisers suffered much more severe damage than have we; I don't mean to make light of a serious situation. Its just that having to go through my fourth (Ivan was in Atlanta when I was trying to fly through) hurricane in six weeks is a bit much.

It really is frustrating we have had a lousy September! Joanna

This season really has been unbelievable. Even the weather forecasters can't believe what they're seeing Jeanne do! Frances did a bit of damage to the lanai and roof, knocked down some trees in the garden too. We were on the Voyager in the Baltics while all this was going on. Our lawn furniture is still in the pool, and some of our most vulnerable windows still have the plywood on. I'm sure our neighbors think we're crazy but we figured we'd wait till the end of the month before taking it all down. Jeanne looks like she's proving us right. hopefully she'll make that right turn before getting to us.

Good luck to all Floridians and Eastcoasters!
We are going to the exciting port of Stillwater OK to meet our new granddaughter born 8/16/04 and her 2 brothers, 4 and 2 1/2. Hoping Ivan remnants don't travel north and Jeanne doesn't prevent our return on Mon. Can think of better places to be stranded than Tulsa airport!

Here is a link to the NOAA site that shows strike possibilities for Jeanne (of course, it's really all a crap shoot.) Column E shows the % possibility of the center of the hurricane passing within 65 nautical miles of the location between now and 2 PM Sunday. Hurricane strike possibilities

Weather Service just changed our "Inland Tropical Storm Wind Watch" to "Inland Hurricane Wind Watch." This is going to be a frustrating storm to watch as such a small change in course can change our impact from severe to nothing, ala Floyd.
We are heading to the home show tomorrow, still. Don't know if the impending storm will pack the place with those that were planning to go on Sunday or empty it out as people stand in line for gas.
BTW, does anyone understand the pictures of the folks along the coast standing in line at Home Depot for plywood? What did they do to the plywood they bought a couple of weeks ago?
Everyone take care.

marc, those people in line at home depot now are probably the ones who finally, after 2 or 3 hurricanes in as many weeks, decide they'd better start taking it seriously!

Here's the latest....hang tough guys...
R
MIAMI, Florida (CNN) -- Florida Gov. Jeb Bush declared a state of emergency Friday as the state prepared for the arrival of Jeanne, potentially the fourth hurricane to strike the Sunshine State this year.
Jeanne, which meandered for several days after inundating the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and Haiti with rain as a tropical storm last week, is now on track to hit the Florida coast by Sunday, weather forecasters said.
Projections show the Category 2 storm cutting through the northern Bahamas on Saturday and then heading toward Florida, possibly hitting the coast Sunday morning.
As of 5 p.m. Friday ET, the center of the hurricane was 225 miles (360 kilometers) east of Great Abaco Island in the Bahamas, where a hurricane warning is in effect, the National Hurricane Center said. That position put the eye of the storm 400 miles (645 kilometers) east of the Florida coast. The storm was moving west near 12 mph (19 kph), the center said.

My best, best, best wishes for all those along the east coast of Florida (oh heck, the entire state already). You seriously have had MUCH more than your fair share of natural calamities in the last month.

Best of luck to you guys, can't believe this path may be a repeat of Frances. It's already windy down here. Max Mayfield (Dir. of the Hurricane Ctr/NOAA) said this would be a busy season. This morning he reminded us that there are currently 12 named storms for the season....there are supposed to be 15

I hope your sister will be safe. Everyone in Florida is watching Jeanne. Right now it's pretty quiet here on the west coast. We are hoping our eastern neighbors are doing well too.
Central Florida seems to always get the brunt of it. I hope Marc and Arlene, Betty, Bonni, Kimmi, John and others are safe and sound.

Looks like storm will track south of us. We are going to head to bed and hope we still have power (and no trees down) by the time we get up.
Betty, have you moved to safety?
Bonnie & Jack, Kimmi & John; hope you are keeping dry tonight.
I will check in in the morning.

God Bless all of you! You've been through so much!! Good Luck...can this FINALLY be the end! Dare I ask if it's possible to get/renew homeowner's insurance anymore from the major companies?? (or maybe Hurricane damage is excluded)??
Margo, how's the sale of your BEAUTIFUL home going? Any viable offers? It's SO GORGEOUS!

Good morning....we still have power in Sarasota, but it looks like most of the central east coast is now without. The winds are starting to gust here. Still not much rain for us but they promise more later.
There was just a very sad story on the local news about a group of people that FEMA helped relocate after they lost their homes in Hurricane Charlie.
They moved into temporary housing, you guessed it, mobile homes! They have now evacuated to a shelter for the duration of the storm - I can only imagine how they feel.
Marcie:
On our home sale front, things are going well, we have a very serious prospect - they spent more than an hour here yesterday with their decorator - of course, they want to renovate - just show me the money! :)

Margo, Marc et al: the reports are just coming in this morning from (my favorite) Jim Cantore and the lot. They show a lot of tree/roof shingle/high tide-type of damage. How did your houses do? Did power go out? I cannot believe this is happening to you again!

We're still on the front southwestern side of the storm. Our power went out a few minutes ago for a short time, and will probably go again soon so I'm entertaining myself with LCT while I can.
Right now we only have some branches etc. down - the wind is howling but we're feeling relatively safe at the moment. Thanks for thinking of us.

Margo,
Good hearing from you.
I spent about an hour watching MSNBC last night and Jeanne is one serious storm (as they all were).
I hope today is a better day for all concerned.
BTW, Margo, I wish you the best with the sale of your lovely home. Can't believe the prospective buyers want to renovate - your house is perfection!
Take care!

Hang in there everyone! Marcie - we're in Palm Beach County and can only get hurricane insurance through a privatized company that took over the state's insurance program. I got the renewal premium BEFORE Frances & Jeanne, and it was already 30% higher than last year. I can't think about what it will look like next year, but it's sure better than not getting insured at all. Cheers, Anne

We lost power overnight....it just came back on! I am sure glad that I had set AC on Alaska mode before going to bed; never got too warm.
Still bands of rain and winds to around 50. Magnolia, repaired after Frances, is now out of the ground again. Also, lost a couple more pine trees in the back. I haven't been outside to check the roof yet. I am a little more concerned as we have received heavy winds from the south this time as the back side is almost as strong as the front. Need to check solar panels.
With our luck with hurricanes this season, I am getting a little concerned about our transatlantic which starts the transit near the end of the hurricane season!
EDITED TO ADD:
I spoke too soon about winds dying down. Peak gust last hour was 66 mph; the highest from this storm. When will it end?

The wind howled all day here and it rained sideways from time to time. Still very gusty winds, but the sun has actually been out for a few minutes! My power stayed on throughout the day, thank goodness!
Hope everyone else in Florida got through with no damage/injuries...........

I am here in Atlanta. Storm is sure impacting travel.

We just got back from Coconut Grove today - our Sunday return flight was canceled so we flew in this afternoon - weather not bad in the Miami area and we were happy to be out of Ponte Vedra during a hurricane - a few leaks but no big damage - people lost power here so happy to be in a hotel overlooking Biscayne Bay with electricity!! We were with friends and had fun - they closed South Beach they day we wanted to visit so we stuck to Coral Gables and Coconut Grove - Joanna

I am sure that you are all almost as tired of hearing about my weather woes, as I am living them. We were still licking our wounds from Frances when Jeanne decided to pay us a visit. Once again, we packed up and evacuated to Orlando. It was pretty bad there ( Huh, Marc ), but we could not stay on the beach. We came home this morning to old damage....new damage...... but we are o.k. I do hope everyone else made out o.k. This has got to be the end of it, Please God! Thanks again for your concern. Betty

Betty, You've sure had more than your share! Hope this is the end of it.
Sarasota remains fairly untouched by the storms. Many lost power for most of Sunday and there is lots of debris to pick up but otherwise things are almost back to normal. My lanai furniture is again returned to normal positions - ready for next real estate shopper. Wonder if anyone wants to live in Florida any more?????

Margo, Thanks! I am so glad you have been spared most of these "hurricane horrors". You've certainly had some really close calls. Yes, I'm sure the right buyer will come along for your lovely home. You may have to wait 'til the snows start to fall up north. lol :) Bonnie, Marc, Claudia, the Kimmis...other Florida folks, let us hear from you. Betty

Hi everybody! Boy, this sure is getting tiresome! But once AGAIN, we seem to have dodged a bullet in southern Palm Beach County!
This time we decided to ignore the mandatory evacuation order and ride it out right here. We're all fine...and frankly, staying put was much less stressful than if we had evacuated. Rather sit in my own home without electric, than being in a hotel without power, and wondering what's going on at home!
We lost power for only 24 hours, and this morning phone, cable and internet were restored. Not sure what the final numbers were on our winds, but those hurricane shutters sure got tested on Jean!
We are incredibly fortunate! Needless to say, our hearts go out to the many people north of us who have lost so much, and are suffering terribly. Such a difficult time.
