Our son will have surgery tomorrow on his lower right leg. This will be his 21st surgery in 28 years.

We leave later today to take him to Atlanta as the surgery will be there not in our city. The doctor said he should be released on Sunday if all goes well and then I will stay with him at his house for about a week until I feel he is able to manage ok on his own.

If you have time please say a prayer for him and his recovery. He was born with Spina Bifida and he does well living on his own, but he is afraid this time being immobile for so long may be hard to try to get up and walk with his walker (he will be in a cast a minimum of 2 months).

Thanks much! :)

Hello, this is Mike, Sue's son. Most of you I do not know, yet all of you have offered your prayers and thoughts for me and my family during this difficult time. I thank you from the bottom of my heart. As mom has said this is my 21st surgery, yet it will be my first in over 10 yrs, the longest I have ever gone so it is hard to let that impressive streak end. I know mom will keep you all updated on my progress. Thank you again very much!

We just returned to our hotel room in Atlanta. The surgery went well - thank God! His doctor stated "the surgery was boring and that's how I like it"!

Mike was starting to wake up before he left the opearting room and was in his room about 1.5 hours later. He is doing well - a bit of pain (which in a way we are thankful for as he doesn't have much sensation in his legs...it is quite spotty). His cast goes just above his knee and he said it was pretty warm.

Tomorrow he will have PT visit and assist him in transferring from bed to his wheelchair and in to the bathroom. If all goes well tomorrow we should be able to take him home Sunday. I will stay at his house about a week (he lives about 30 minutes from our house).

Our family thanks all of you for the prayers and well-wishes...it truly means a lot to us! When Mike read this thread yesterday it brought tears to his eyes he was so touched. :)

Ah Sue, great news! I believe in the positive energy this warm and caring group creates.

Mike, I know from experience that this group has a huge collective heart, and that it doesn't matter if they have met you or not. My brother had a fire just before Christmas. It destroyed everything. He is raising his 2 young grandchildren. When I told this group and asked for their prayers, I cannot tell you what the outpouring of support meant to me, my brother and his family. If big hearts and genuine caring can really change situations in a positive way, and I KNOW they can, you are truly in good shape.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

Sheri

Mike was released from the hospital Saturday afternoon. I spent the night at his house in case he needed my help. I am thankful he is so very independent, for being physically disabled, as there was really nothing I needed to do.

I will drop by each day with meals and clean as needed, but he truly is able to do most things on his own with a little ingenuity and just taking him time.

Being house-bound is what will drive him bonkers! He isn't able to return to work until he is changed to a short leg cast in 4 to 6 weeks and he can't drive until then, either!

Your concern and prayers were/are truly appreciated! :)
