Just wanted to know how everyone is doing. It looks like the DC area is still going to have lots more rain. Please check in with us.

Well we are in Oakton, near Vienna and Fairfax, and immediately near us things aren't too bad,we are water logged a bit, a few flooded streets, etc. But in the surrounding area, I guess its a lot worse than I thought until I saw the news last night, lots of issues in DC and in Alexandria area. TomG, lives in Alexandria and there are some issues there - so maybe he can jump in and let us know how they are doing. I saw some major flooding along the Alexandria waterfront on the news last night, and a lot of issues up in Northern MD and on the Eastern Shore.

But...Frank and I are fine so far. This has tested our new "dry basement" that we just put out mega bucks for the first of the year, and we do have a dry basement for once. We are due for more rain this afternoon and evening according to the weather this morning, so we are keeping our fingers crossed.

Hope others in this area are ok too.

JoAnn - It is good to hear that your new "dry basement" seems to be working well at keeping your home dry inside.
Tom G - I hope that you are surviving the rain without difficulties.

Good to hear all is going well for you and Frank, JoAnn!

I do hope that Tom and Mona, as well as others, are not greatly impacted by the heavy rains/flooding. Hopefully they'll check in and let us know how they're doing.

Glad to hear that you and Frank are dry, JoAnn. Basements are alwasy such a worry when it comes to lots of water, keeping my fingers crossed that yours stays dry!

Also hope Tom and Mona are weathering the rains and floooding.

We are water logged in Montgomery County Maryland. Thankfully our basement is still dry. The lake in our neighborhood is overspilling its banks, but no homes are in danger. We are more concerned about the predicted strong storms with wind tonight & tomorrow. These could topple big trees that are essentially sitting in mud. This of course could play havoc with the power companies. Needless to say, we are making sure all our battery backups are charged and ready to go!!

Thanks, JoAnn! I think he is a little crab who has hidden himself away, and is making a home in this pretty shell. That's what I am thinking of doing, the next time I'm on the Voyager. LOL
Our daughter and family live in Manassas. When I talked to her, she said the same thing you did. They are on high ground, but everything is soooooo very wet!! Yea, dry basement!!!!!
cheer

I live in a high rise in Alexandria, VA, and so am not directly affected, but the neighborhood around the corner from me has been condemned, that's how bad the flooding there has been. I just got back from an out of town trip, and had the experience of driving through a "wall of water" on the Dulles Access Road. I've never seen anything like it: you can't differentiate raindrops, it's just a sheer sheet of water. And, of course, you can't see anything. It's a miracle no one was killed.

Whoa Crystal - what a scary experience. We aren't too far from Dulles, and I had heard that there had been flight delays, but sure hadn't heard that about the access road - amazing you made it safely. It is a miracle that no one has been killed so far - and we had heard about that neighborhood that was condemned, just didn't realize it was in Alexandria.

OK, finally called Tom and Mona since we hadn't heard from Tom. Tom is out of town, Mona says they are fine - no issues actually - just a little water in their basement, which is a first.

They are very excited to meet everyone on MUSH. Hopefully Tom might see this thread tomorrow and post himself - but the bottom line is they are fine.

Crystal, That's a really awful and frightening driving situation. Glad to hear you're OK. Watched the news earlier this morning and the flooding is incredibly high.

Thanks for the update on Tom and Mona. Always good to know that all our LCT friends are safe!

Here's hoping that the torrential rains and flooding are soon over with!

It has been bad weather here in DC; non-stop rain. Yesterday, they couldn't even get mail delivery to the Pentagon. Today, they found a way to get us our mail.

I'm back home. Thanks for your thoughts everyone. Not much of a problem where we live but other areas do have serious flooding. I heard on the radio driving back from NY that DC is under a state of emergency.

I have to drive to work in downtown DC Wednesday morning so I'll get to see what it's like. And thanks for checking on us JoAnn. Tom.

Looks like the serious flooding has moved to Pennsylvania. They're talking about evacuating up to 200,000 people. Tom.

I did a map of Pennsylvania - Karen lives on the Western part of PA. Wilkes Barre (East Pennsylvania) is where the flooding is worst:

No flooding here, just thunderstorms with hail several times a day! I think I must live pretty far from Wilkes Barre as I don't even know where it is, lol.

On Kathy's map, I live near Transfer on the lake that is next to it so I think I am far north of the flooding. (so far!)

Wait we went skiing there once or somewhere near there. The hotel we stayed at was made up of old railroad cars and was really kind of neat. I do remember that it was at least a 30 minute drive to the ski area, but don't remember the name of it.

Oh well, the most important thing is that Karen and Mark are safe - thank heaven, since they are our personal driver/tour guide for the post MUSH trip! :D :D :p
