Also in New Orleans in addition to Carolyn and Don and also from our NINJA cruise to Iceland/ Norway are Karyn and Joe. I sent an e-mail to Karyn last night but haven't heard back from her.

I hope all those folks we know in New Orleans (and everyone else) have left the area--it sounds like this will be a major disaster. We'll be praying that it's not nearly as bad as they're predicting.

We just came home from a cocktail party on the beach - there but for the grace of God...we looked around us and realized nothing is safe from a Cat. 5 storm.
We pray for all the people in the path of Katrina. There's really nothing else we can do, I hope they can all make it to safer places.

I think Joe and Karyn are in the N.O. area, but not sure where. (They don't have an LCT name that I can remember but are friends of Dougburns and cruised with some of you recently (I think))
I hope they are high and dry!

PAM,
What is your local forecast? Looks ominous for Katrina slowing down????
I have a former college roommate living in Thibodeaux, one whose 90+ mother is in a nursing home there, and a nephew who was supposed to close on a house there 9/19, to take a job as hospital administrator. Thibodeaux is slightly west and north of Houma.
Prayers for all!!

It looks like we are going to get some wind and rain, the main part may go East of us. Mark is having a bad problem with his left knee, and he's going to try to find an orthopedic dr tomorrow. We may get damp.
I hope we keep power.
But we are several hundred miles inland, so hopefully it WILL slow down by the time it gets to us.

Our thoughts for safety for those affected by Katrina. We can only hope it winds down as it hits land...

I think this is the scariest storm in my memory, perhaps because its target, New Orleans is so far below sea level, and has water on three sides. At least with Andrew and Camille, the water could recede quickly.
And Maria, I did not post about Karyn because they don't post here, but join you in sending good wishes for their safety. Let us know if you hear from them.

Olivia - I agree. I am really pulling for those in Katrina's way because this one looks like a world beater (in every sense of the word). Oil & gas prices are already up a huge amount overnight on fear the gulf production will be curtailed for a while. Cheers, Anne

Thre saying that they may have to come up with a Catgory 6 after this is all over. All that we can hope for is a low death toll. I dread to see how many people come home to no home at all.
This board is the place to come for Hurricanes, you get better real time information than the weather channel.

Well, all I can think of is Charley 8/13/04...and the moment of horror I felt when I knew it was headed for us (and NOT Tampa, as the misguided, incompetent Weather Channel kept saying right up until our power went out). On top of that, it went from a cat. 2 to a 4 within 30 minutes. I was absolutely terrified. What I felt can't remotely compare to Katrina and what these people must be feeling. Thank GOD they have had some warning, unlike we did.
We have learned one dear lesson: pay attention to nhc.noaa.gov's satellite imagery (which lets you see the live satellite picture, not some "5:00pm advisory, here's where we think it's headed" crap), so you can tell on your OWN where the thing is headed. It's amazing how different the forecast points are from where the hurricane actually goes. The unfortunate folks in Punta Gorda & Port Charlotte would have been evacuated, had the Weather Channel made an accurate prediction.
Sorry, I'll get off my soapbox now...it just pays to do your own homework on this stuff. My prayers are very much with everyone in Katrina's path. Please, be safe!!!!

I got an email from Yallcruise yesterday morning around 8:30 a.m..........Carolyn and her husband Don were just packing up the car and heading to Baton Rouge to stay with family. The predictions for the 20-30 ft. flooding does not sound good for New Orleans. I only pray that Carolyn has a home and restaurant to come home to and that those that are stranded there survive. Pat

My sister and Brother-in-law live in Destrehan LA. (west and slightly North of downtown NOLA.) My sister and all the New Orlean Saints coaches wives and families packed up and did a caravan out of the area Sunday morning leaving about 5:00 am My brother-in-law and the football team left for Oakland CA about 2:00 pm Sunday. They are sure concerned to find what they will go home to.

I don't know if this should have been posted on another thread. I found this picture earlier today. I have been hooked on www.nola.com reading first hand reports and looking at pictures. They are doing the best they can; I just wish they would start shooting looters. I think we handled things a lot better in FL as they had a no tolerance policy. This is a picture of St Bernard's Parish. This was caused by flooding from Industrial Canal. I think this was also casued by storm surge from Lake Borgne [sp]. ![[Linked Image]](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/iamtribble/nola.jpg)

Mark you need to reduce the size of the pic as it's huge and making us scroll....you have it at over 2000 pixels...
try reducing it to about 700 pixels wide at 72 dpi...that way we won't have to scroll.

As big as it is, it really shows in frightful detail what these people are going through. So sad to hear the stories on TV. While we knew they were not "home free" after the storm had passed, for New Orleans it got worse and worse today.
Canadagal, have you heard anymore from Carolyn and Don? I keep thinking about them....and Karyn and Joe as well.

Arlene, I would if I knew how. I right clicked the picture, went to properties, and then copied the url. I then clicked image here and pasted in the url. I don't know how to modify the size of a photo that is on the net.
Karen, help!

A new update: More canal breach flooding predicted
Tuesday, 6:35 p.m.
Mayor Ray Nagin issued an urgent bulletin through WWL-TV at 6:30 p.m.
Nagin said efforts to stop the flow of water at the breach on the 17th Street Canal are failing, which means the floodwaters will rise again.
Nagin said the waters will soon overwhelm the pump, shutting it down. He said the water will rise to 3 feet above sea level - or 12-15 feet in some places of east Jefferson and Orleans parishes.
Nagin has advised residents who have not already evacuated to do so as soon as possible.

LOL Marc, I just saw your picture. Fixing it now :)
Editing to add, if you go to the original picture and hover your mouse over it, you will see an icon that let's you choose to view the picture in two sizes, regular and huge. When you link to the picture, you automatically get the huge size. This comes in handy when you want to see more detail from a picture on the net but they don't link very well :)
Karen Live long and prosper

Arlene, I deleted it for you to fix.
Then I saw Karen said she would fix so I edited it back in.
Let me know what do to and let me know how to fix in future.
edited to add:
I see that Karen rehosted the picture. I guess I could have done that.
thanks,
