In the next week or so, I plan on getting an IPhone.
Quite a large number of you all already have one, So let me ask a simple question.....
What case do you recommend. My big concern is scratching the touch screen. I am looking for protection from that. I don't wear my phone on my belt. I tend to just keep it in my pocket..suit jacket pocket during the week, pant pocket on weekends.

Thanks in advance..... Doug

I use a Sena case and I have dropped it a few times with no problems. I have the flip style and the touch screen is fully protected. I really love my iphone and this case makes a difference in protection for me. My daughter in law dropped hers a week after getting it and the screen cracked and it was useless. She now has a new one and a Sena case...no problems.

I have a clear plastic "skin" on my iPhone, Doug. Bought it at the Apple Store, so it's recommended by them. I have a leather flip style case, too.

I might do what Pam does, Doug, if you plan on keeping it in a pocket at all times. The clear plastic skin on the face will protect against scratches and if it's in your pocket otherwise, you won't have to worry about dropping it and it'll keep it slim/small. All other cases will add bulk. The problem, of course, is that you'll have no protection against drops.

I wear mine on my belt in a holster - I pull it out of the holster and use it without any case when I'm using it - don't even bother with the plastic skin and I haven't had any problems so far. Admittedly, I live life on the dangerous side ... :D

Thanks all!

I haven't dropped my current phone much, so I doubt that will be a problem. So, I'll focus on screen protection.

Thanks again.

I have a Sena case and a film over the screen. Dedicated left front pants pocket. Here's a link to the film...

Robert!!! Thank you for the link.
Even with shipping it is less than half the price of the film at the Apple store. It looks exactly like what I am looking for!

And wouldn't you know, as I said I have almost never dropped my phone, BUT after telling you all that I dropped my current phone today in my office. Watched it bounce off the desk and on to the floor.

No problem, D! Eeek on the phone drop - hope the damage was minimal. As an aside, the screen on the iPhone is pretty scratch resistant. The best "side effect" of the screen protector is smudge reduction. I found I was constantly cleaning the screen of finger marks and oil. I do not even carry the chamois anymore. If you have any iphone questions I'd be happy to offer whatever assistance I can. Either PM me or shoot me an e-mail (in my profile).

Edit to add: Here is a link to the case I have. It adds a little bulk but I think it offers excellent protection and accessibility to the screen, ports and switches/buttons. Price is a little stiff but I am very happy with it.

Here's the link for my case. Good luck with your new phone, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Robert;

I tried to buy the 16 gig model this past weekend. The store I went to was sold out...as was just about the entire East Coast!!!
So, I ordered it online Sunday.
Today is Tuesday. It has not yet shipped. (grumble, grumble)
I have been spending the wait time getting everything ready to sync with my iMac. (I went for the big iMac this past December... Love it! As a long time 9.2 user, 10.5X is a bit of an adjustment. To date no complaints!!!)

I will soon be a member of the secret society...Don't forget to let me know what the handshake is!

Doug... who loved his Mac Plus (in its day)

PS: It has been fun bringing my wife over from the dark side

Sorry been getting ready to go on vacation so I've not been around LCT all that much. We have the same iMac - awesome, eh? 10.5X is a great OS. Good articles regarding same in the March/April issues of Macworld.

Do you have your iPhone yet? I'd be going nuts waiting (I am a man of very little patience...). It'll so be worth the wait. I'll be checking the boards over the next couple of days to see what you think of your new toy, er, phone....

Have fun! "...dark side." HA!!

Yes, 10.5 is awesome. It seems like i find out something new (& great!) everyday.

Well, I ordered my iphone on Sunday. Yesterday (Wednesday) I got an email telling me that it had been shipped.....from China! Guess they are really running into shortages.
So, it looks like it "may" arrive Monday.
We'll see. the adventure continues.....

Arrrrgggghhhhh...how frustrating! Well at least you know it's on the way. I should have also mentioned that there is an excellent Leopard Survival Guide on page 57 of next months Macworld. All kinds of shortcuts, tips, etc. I think you might find it useful.

Yup! already read it. (free 6 months of Macworld when you spend for a new iMac.) (That is like $5.00 off the price! -LOL)

Doug, it may arrive tomorrow. I ordered a new iPod Nano a couple of weeks ago and it shipped from China too. It wasn't due to arrive until the following Monday but it showed up the next day, which was a Friday. Hope you get it tomorrow!

My ipod Touch got here in about a day from China! I think Shaghai! I was amazed. My Joanna ordered a Nano, and it was delivered to my office pronto, I didn't even look at where it came from.

I have the clear Agent 18 iPhone shield, seen here: http://www.agent18.com/scripts/prodview2.asp?idproductpages=21
and a clear "film" on the touch screen. I keep it in left front pocket, too. This was a switch for me from my old phone, but I want to avoid the rivet in the right pocket of jeans, so I've made it an always in the left pocket rule. I have dropped it. It's wider than my old phone and doesn't fit in my palm all that well.

Well, it is Friday evening in New York & no iPhone. The FedEx tracking web site still states Monday by 10:30am. But, we all know that they give dates that they know that they will make, so that if they deliver earlier we are overjoyed. I hope they deliver me joy by tomorrow, Saturday. If not, Monday will be the day.

Seadog: I ordered the screen film already. Now I have to check out cases. Would hate to drop it, break it & throw out $500!!!

Andrea: You look great! Keep it up!

Olivia: It IS amazing how fast stuff gets from there to here these days. Hope all is well. When will we be traveling together again?

Doug, you will get it precisely when they said you would, I would bet money on that! As for when we are traveling together again, I'm on most of what Ngaire has planned for her groups in the future! ROAR, I know you are on, but I think we will be passing in the night! So much in 2009 that may change.

I think we need to plan another crossing in the future! TAP was so much fun with all those sea days!

Well, it made amazing time from China to Newark, NJ... was there as of 6:53am today.
Just could not make that last hour from Newark to me today....

BUT I know it will arrive Monday!

Good Bye, T-Mobile! It will be nice to -at long last - actually be able to use my mobile in my own home!

Olivia: we are on the Black Sea trip in July. I think you are, too! So we'll see each other soon. We can talk about how fun the TAP crossing was

Did it have just a little fold out for directions to get it started? Reason I can't work my iTouch to the fullest (no, even the minimal) is that I haven't printed out the 80 page manual that did not come with it.

A manual? Included?
No way! The companies found out a long time ago that they could have "on-line" help (worthless as it may be) & not have to print manuals.
I love the Missing Manual series. About $20 or so a book, but really worth it. I bought the iPhone Missing Manual book when we bought Andi's iPhone a while back. Worth every penny.

Doug, my Joanna just emailed me a couple of days ago about a "Missing Manual" for my iTouch!

I still think we ought to talk about a crossing in 2010! TAP was so much fun, and the CROSS participants also had a great time! Maybe next time we can get a big group aboard!

It is so cool.

Andrea: just keep up whatever you are doing. Roar buddy, you are doing great!

Olivia: wow! 2010? I can't even plan next weekend. TAP was amazing, I agree. But 2010, gee, I can't plan that far. BUT if you do, please keep me in the loop.
As always, it was the people who made the cruise on TAP. What a great bunch!!!

Doug, I couldn't agree more...my friend Gwen (in Florida) has an Iphone, and how I wish I could have one. But believe it or not, I can't - not available with any carrier yet in Canada.

Coolest thing in the world. I almost felt like a MAN with a new toy when I saw Gwen's!!!! Wish I could have one.

On the other hand, got my new 2008 Honda Ridgeline today, that's a cool toy for now!!!! How times change, never thought I'd be excited about a pick-up, but I am!!!

Yes!!! It is a really great product. (but I've always been a Mac guy.) I don't know what version of the OS I'm using, but it is the current one.

And, I just found out the other night that my daughter got an iPhone. She got the 8 gig model. (she's not the geek that her Dad is!) So, Mom, Dad & Heir....3 iPhones! Very cool, but I wonder what photo she will link to my phone number. (lol)

New version of the iPhone strongly rumored to be announced on Monday 6/9/08. Likely enhancements - 3G data connectivity (internet browsing and email retrieval and sending to be a generation faster than current iPhone technology) and possible GPS inclusion within the phone.

Penny and I love our I-phones and on May 20 I purchased an IMac and am taking onetoone classes to learn how to make movies, organize photos, etc. Lovin it!

Have also started working on my world cruise video.

When you're on a ship for 4 mos. you get quite attached to crew members and what I have enjoyed most of my video is watching the crew entertain us in the Constellation Theatre. They were just wonderful and knocked us cruisers for a loop.

Yes, I've had a "Mac" attack.

Cheers! Ray
