Tony takes every potential threat very seriously - I remain calm as this house cannot accommodate two hyper people - I did notice when I went to grocery store the place was packed people loading up with supplies/food- he just left to get another tank of gas for our grill - food thoughts first! He has emptied water out of the pool, bought canned goods and tons of water, batteries etc all ready, cars filled with gas, I don't have the check list but seems most of it is complete - I grew up with scary hurricanes and he grew up with scary tornados - so I am little more blase about hurricanes but mention tornados and I am panic stricken - know the destruction they both cause - hope all in the path will be safe - Joanna

We are now in the middle of a feeder band from T.S. Fay and its raining and very windy with very rough seas. ....the surfers are having a wonderful time risking life and limb right in front of our windows!

This is a first for us in the condo, great views of the ocean, I'm not sure I want to see all that is happening...Hope all in Fays path have a peaceful night.

Doris: I think Mayor of KW was furious with the surfers for ignoring warnings - those surfers (we have an old one) LOVE those waves

This one looks to be hitting my boss -- and the city we used to live (Cape Coral) -- am hoping it fizzles out and is absolutely NOTHING like Cat. 4 Charley which hit in roughly the same spot 4 years and 5 days ago (that was the scariest, worst day of my life).

Stay safe, Joanna and Doris - stay vigilant because these "beings" have a personality of their own and can do anything and go anywhere, we have certainly seen it!

Joanna,

There were about 50 surfers on our beach as reported on TV. Miami Beach was smart and closed their beaches. Here in Bal Harbour there was a police car stationed on the jetty, as if they could do someting or help someone if necessary!

The winds have calmed down in the past hour and we are all hopeing it will stay this way....and be gone by tomorrow.

Breakfast with Fay

Tropical storm Fay came alongside our beaches here in Naples around 2:00 am and blew kisses (65 mph gusts) and spit (around 7 inches of rain so far) but didn’t intimidate us. A few roads are closed due to flooding, schools are closed for today, Ft Myers airport canceled all flights today and most businesses and offices will stay closed. When we didn’t pay her much attention she came ashore here and we still ignored her so she started inland towards Orlando to try to inconvenience the European tourists at Mickey World. It’s still windy and raining now at 9:00 am and will probably stay that way until late afternoon. It’ll be boring just sinning in the house all day and we wish we were on a cruise.

Glad the damage was minor. Boredom has its rewards. Think of all the time you'll have today to research a new cruise.

Another Kathy,
I wondered if anyone would catch that bit of SW Florida hurricane humor. Hurricane parties are for kids but we have our own ways to survive the storms.

Well, Fay came storming in here with a vengeance. There was lots of rain and strong wind all day yesterday and last night. It is still raining pretty hard this morning, but much less windy. Could have been considerably worse.

Crossing my fingers for Joanna and those in North FL, that Fickle Fay just dies, and does not come back on shore.

Past 48 hrs have been full of stress not knowing where Fay may land ...Tony is "Nervous Ned" so I am determined to remain calm but I am concerned - good chance we will lose electricity, so local news tells me, which means loss of a/c and they keep changing time of arrival (why can't we schedule arrival as they do births these days?) - still tropical storm, I think - not asking as answer takes 30 minutes for simple response from my live-in weather man - we have very small backyard and very small pool but OY! lots of furniture - waiting to see if it has to be moved indoors - getting old to do this stuff - he just ran to store more canned goods - we can survive for a month or more with current canned yuck stuff - Bye moving furniture indoors XXOO to you all -

Oh Joanna, I am so sorry you have to go through this *$&^! Greg and I were watching it going across the state saying WHY is this not falling apart like it should? This reminds me of WILMA! Like I said, they are like humans and have personalities. I sure hope you don't lose power, at least not for any significant time. I know how crappy that is!!! Please check in with us again when you can, we are thinking of you!!!

Hope Betty is OK and has sought refuge if necessary.

Joanna, thinking of you both and for the best! How nerve-wracking that it won't "get a move on!" Hope you'll be able to let us know!

I am shocked we have power - it has been tiring 2 days and damn Fay won't arrive or leave - they closed local bridges due to high winds and when a gust hits it is very scary - our yard a total mess, least of our worries - young gal drowned today, next beach, on vacation and thought ocean looked appealing with all the high waves - so many in our county without power - more bad weather tomorrow - U of Fl closed tomorrow, pretty unusual, but the experts are not sure what Fay may finally bring to all of us in this area - for some reason this TS is causing as much havoc as past hurricanes -

This thing is really unreal...she defies all logic. Hang in there, Joanna, and I am glad that you do at least have power. There must be SO much flooding from this, I cannot imagine. They give them names because they are like humans with different personalities, I truly believe that!!!

GO AWAY FAY!!!! The sky is trying to clear here, but still cloudy. The estimates of rain in the area are somewhere between 20 and 30 inches in lots of areas. Can you believe it?... Many were forced out of their homes. We are asked to conserve water, as lots of the water supply is contaminated. The president has declared a state of emergency for the area.

As Joanna said, we do not expect this kind of impact from a tropical storm, but Fay is a b#@#*.
Be safe, Joanna!

Keep checking in, you guys! So glad you are ok, Betty! Unbelievable rainfall amounts you've had. Hoping Joanna made it thru the night without problems though nerves must be shot. Sounds like Marilyn had a rough time. Ugh! Fay is relentless! Take care, you all.

At 11 am the winds and rain still HIGH!!! 57 MPH wind just hit St Aug airport - Now we are under a tornado watch - it is one ugly day - wind is knocking down traffic lights - one of our kids due in from NYC at 6:30 tonight - no idea how that will play out - yes my nerves are shot - we had small roof leak, wind driven rain came under front door into house, pool needs emptying again, some shutters flew off - so many without power all over area - if I don't check in you'll know why...

Joanna, Fred and I fully understand how you feel. Being here in Bermuda, we get our share as well. Winds howling, leaks, rain, noise, windows vibrating, and worst of all no power... all too familiar to us as well. When I was a very young child, they held adventure, but now, they terrify me. Living here in Bermuda, we can never figure out how they know to take direct aim for us. Sometimes the eye is bigger than our small island..21 miles. Plus the fact that we have nowhere to evacuate to. In your case, why won't Fay just leave? Joanna, please stay safe. We will be thinking of you until this all passes.

Thanks for checking in with us, Joanna, although I wish it were better news! I bet you are about to build an ark...

One of my managing directors lives just south of Port St. Lucie and he said some areas have gotten 2.5 FEET of rain!!!!!! I can't even fathom that (no pun intended).

Joanna - sorry to hear all this, I emailed you earlier in the week, thinking Fay had passed, then last night realized not. Been dealing with major issues with Dad again, and two Grandkids here, so am somewhat out of the loop, anyway here's hoping for all of you in FL that Fay will leave and go away - stay safe everyone down there.

Joanna - today seems better here in the Palencia area of St Augustine. We lost electricity for an hour on Thursday (much better than the 5 days during Charley!), but it has remained on since then. There is a lot of rain today, but nothing like yesterday. Hopefully the wind & rain are weaker today at Ponte Vedra.........Stay safe!

Thanks all and yes Fay is gone and sun trying to come out - yes, Sue today is 100% better - still shocked we never lost power as our area seems to be the first to lose in any storm - now the fun begins cleaning up yard and we lost 3 shutters but nothing compared to what some have experienced -
