Peggy, I'm honored your son and I share a birthday. We send him warm birthday wishes and our hopes for a great year ahead.

We had a lovely dinner last evening and then camped out in our new house for the first time. I got the couch and Gary got the blow-up mattress. At least we had central HVAC and running water at this campground!

This morning, I was up at 5:45 and heading to the grocery store for a 6 am open. After picking up the basics, I woke Gary up for breakfast. It was a whirlwind day, and the birthday fairy was happy to grant many wishes. The only downside, of course, is Sandy and Ralphie (our new bird recruit) were stuck home alone today.

First, Verizon sent two techs to get me up & running on FIOS, telephone and TV in record time. I made sure to get the cell phone numbers of the techs, so I don't have to screw around with the 1-888-punch buttons ad nauseum customer support mechanism.

Next, the Macy's truck arrived with our bedroom furniture. Camping is tolerable with fantastic wild animal sightings and buff Masai men. Other than that ... but I digress. Unfortunately, the dresser is cracked. Jackson convinced them to check the replacement dresser BEFORE they bring it next Thursday. I do like the furniture very much.

Birthday wishes were still coming true. Our development's construction manager came by and summoned lots of folks to complete many of the punch list items. How great to check most of it off the list.

Gary, meanwhile, took all the leftover shelving from the closets & made his move on building the most macho garage in the development. The other guys, like bears drawn to the honey, all made their way into our garage, throwing out lots of opinions as he wielded the screwdriver and finished his garage man-wall with a flourish.

Since my TV now works, I watched the stock market teeter on the brink of another huge leg down. Only one solution - do my part to pump up the economy. I went shopping for mattress pads, pillows, a blanket or two and sandwiches for lunch. By the time I got back, the market was on firmer footing. I finished fitting out both beds. It's beginning to look like home.

I am waiting on two more workmen, then I head home to see the birds. It's been a busy, productive and fun day.

Congrats Anne on your move - Tony would have been first in line to check out Gary's macho garage and offer opinions - which is comical since the kids threaten to enter our garage in the "ugliest most disorganized contest" in the area -

No No, we win that contest! I found an old phone book 1965...."Don't throw that away, I might need it"! (??)Coffee cans full of every screw made, rusty paint cans full of nothing. You get the picture :eek: Take a picture so I can see what a macho garage looks like!

Suzie - let's play 'How do they hold 'em?' poker. I'll see your 1965 phone book and raise you a high school letter sweater!

If I took a picture you'd faint. That garage is pristine and clean as a whistle. It will NOT be that way for long, I can assure you. I am praying he doesn't move the old port holes someone thought would be decorative (but failed to weatherproof) in the bar outside wall. We replaced 'em with a sealed window, but he thoroughly believes you never know when you'll need a pair of port holes.

Sorry, Suzie; can you top a large wooden crate full of empty tuna fish cans and gallon water jugs - several hundred LP Opera albums, probably min 100 spray paint cans, 100+ containers of misc. hardware, the now antique oscilloscopes and other electronic gear, miscellaneous pieces of pipe, big tools(dril press, etc.) yard tools and furniture and I don't know even know. (I'm afraid to look!) The engineer who is a BIG time pack rat (39 yrs here) A few yrs ago, the sons decided to burn it down if we didn't make it thru a plane crash!

Since I can't possibly keep up with all your nom' de' plume(never took French so I know that's not correct,) want to wish our Anne a VERY :happyb: :hbday: and wonderful year! SO looking forward to your reports of wherever your travels take you!

Kathy - I can come pretty close - the kids say same thing - It is ALL going once you are gone!!!!! 6 yrs ago the kids cleaned out the "garage" took them from 8 am till 8 pm - Tony was beside himself (hoarder nerves kicking in) wringing his hands, yelling I never asked for this!!! - HUGE Costco commercial garbage bags lined back driveway - NO NO kidding - we saw him walking the driveway late at night dying to get in those bags they were double knotted we know his illness - - today? worse then ever

on Gary, Tony, and anyone else with "interesting" garages. We, I mean they might take offense.

Happy B'day (again) Anne...want to keep this thread moving along and straying a bit from the garage to 'The Attic' Now there's a can of worms! :eek: 6 fishing coolers like nesting Russian dolls, 3 bicycles with no tires, ski boots that turn to dust when moved, sky lights (never installed), coils of rope in varying dimensions,boxes of 45 & 78 rpm records, 9 pieces of luggage, racks of clothes, pictures.....I take a valium whenever I have to open that door and find suitcase or Christmas decorations :mecry:

Maybe there is something to be said about not having a basement or an attic.....can't save all these "useless" things. LOL. We have very limited storage so must be super selective.
