OH GOD! I got that email today about the Speed Boats in Cozumel being cancelled! Booked the ATV (without the beach part - who needs the skin cancer anyway?). This was actually one I WAS REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO! Oh well, same thing happened to me in the Chilean Fjords, in Puerto Montt I was going to do the Zip Lines, then the owners got into a fight before we arrived and started dismantling the lines! Saw some incredible falls instead and have subsequently been on zip lines twice now in Puerto Vallarta...

Actually the ATV thing sounds really cool, I just hope there are no cliffs for me to fall off! It's an island, should be relatively flat, right?

Todd, Cozumel is very flat, very "jungley" and no, you shouldn't be falling off any cliffs!!! If you do, you've had wayyyyy too many of those chocolate martinis!! I think you must have booked the jungle ATV trip that goes to the ruins, rather than the one we booked to the beach. Mike hates the beach and wanted to do the ruin one, but I reminded him that I gave up the dune buggy tour in Costa Maya so he can go to the Mayan ruins there. Compromise is everything.

In Cozumel we're booked for snorkel experience @ 1:00 but I just called Regent and waitlisted us for the Discover Scuba @ 12:30. I guess we can decide on board, may not clear the waitlist for Scuba anyway so didn't want to cancel the bird in the hand.
Anyone else booked on either of these ?

Marcie, I've read reviews about the beach snorkel on other sites and they're not great. They have you snorkeling in the pier area, not off one of the nice beaches further away, which means you don't see as much coral and marine life. I have snorkeled there before, and the big "attraction" used to be a small plane on the bottom of the ocean (not sure how it got there!). However, that was years ago, and I'm pretty sure all the hurricanes have torn it up by now. If you want to get some really good snorkeling in, you'll probably have to do an independent tour. The folks at Regent couldn't tell me if there was snorkeling available at the beach we go to for the ATV and Beach Adventure tour...we're just going to take our gear and hope for the best (assuming we even bother getting off the ship!!).

Tami, I have snorkeled at that area several times before and found it to be great. The pier area had more fish than any other area I have snorkeled. I don't remember any coral but the water is pretty deep so I do wear my nerdy snorkel vest ;)

One thing we have to be careful is to check if it is jelly fish season. Last time I was in Cozumel, I get stung like crazy and my whole body was tingling.

Welcome back, Karen!!

You've probably snorkeled there more recently than I have, so your info is no doubt better than mine. I just remember reading a review somewhere that said it wasn't that great, but they may have been hoping to see more reef and less fish. Either way, your advice about the jelly fish is a good one!! OUCH!

And as far as a "nerdy snorkel vest" don't feel bad. I just ordered a shorty wetsuit to wear on our Cave Tubing adventure in Belize, because the water in the river is supposed to be in the 70's and I'm too much of a wimp to stay in that water without some sort of protection!

Be nice to the "jelly fish" (they're not jelly and not fish) but a recent Smithsonian magazine article claims they'll be taking over the water world!

It was reported that "jelly fish" thrive in polluted waters and benefit from "climate change."

Ted, I think I saw something on NatGeo that was talking about how the notjelly fish are taking over the oceans!

We also had the same experience with the jelly fish and would rather just stay onboard.

In Cozumel a few years ago on the Silver Shadow, we had such bad wind and waves the captain had to drag the anchor to be able to dock. The crew seemed very surprised that we didn't just skip the port. Our scuba diving was canceled because of the weather; however, on the other side of the island it was very calm. This, I understand, is the opposite of the typical weather there. So, we were advised to take a taxi over there. We found a beautiful beach and the snorkeling was great. The taxi waited for us and after about an hour we were ready to go back to the ship. So, maybe, depending on conditions, you can find better snorkeling than around the pier. I have dives booked, so I'm hoping for the "typical" weather, not the sort that would make for nice snorkeling on the other side of the island! sorry wink

Costa Maya -- Ash, I booked the dives in Costa Maya. Decided not to risk it filling up.

Key West - I booked dives in Key West, so I'm going to cancel the catamaran snorkeling. If anyone is wait-listed for that, maybe you'll clear now.

Belize - Sticking with the Absolute Paradise excursion. Couldn't find a dive op would get us out of the water early enough to get our "no fly" time in before we fly to Tikal the next day in Guatemala.

Karen, The worst reviews I read for that excursion had to do with it being crowded. Since it appears we are the only ship in port that day, I'm hoping it will be nice --- just us and all our rowdy friends!

I booked with Southpoint Divers in Key West and Aldora in Cozumel. Let me know if you want the details and I can try to get the info to you tomorrow.

Greetings Divers!

Glad to know we'll be with friends! Keith and I will be doing the 2-tank in Costa Maya, but opted for the snorkeling in I forget where LOL. For us, the excursions are gravy. The ultimate destination is the ship! After 3 years, I am chomping at the bit to get back on my sea legs!

See you all in 16 days!!!!! cheer

Suzie, on what ship did you take this picture?

The Diamond had the best pool bar; comfy seating covered from the elements. It was our first all inclusive cruise so we tended to take over prime seats when bar opened at 10am.
