So funny you mentioned Airborne. I just found out about if before we left for Santa Fe a month ago. Worked like a charm. I was just starting a cold, took it religiously, and the cold never got beyond the initial stages. :)

I'm going to lay in a nice supply for winter.

The four-month old sitting next to me on our flight from Phoenix to LA was sneezing up a storm yesterday. His mom really had her hands full so I held him for her as needed. I was really glad I am completely tanked up on Airborn. I have been mainlining the stuff all week while in Phoenix and I'll keep it going today too, just to be sure.

My doctor recently ordered some kind of mineral analysis on me and the selenium came back so high they repeated the measure. I laughed, because I had been using Airborn the week of the test. So we know for a fact the ingredients really get into our cells and do their job!

I now am a convert. 3 days before my daughter's bat mitzvah i came down with my son's cold and it was a whooper. I started taking airborne that morning...complained all day that it was doing nothing (but continued to take it), went to sleep early and by the next afternoon I would have sworn I never even had a cold...

now it may or may not be placebo effect, but who cares?

I agree, Arlene. Bring on the placebo if it makes things happen, but I don't think this is a placebo effect. Our son had the same result recently.

I've never taken Airborne but it sounds like something I should have on hand. Can it be purchased in any drug/grocery store? Are there different types for different ailments?

Marcie, you can buy it in any store but it seems when the cold season starts, people start hoarding it and it's hard to find. I like the orange flavor. You put it in water like an Alka Seltzer.

Only issue is that in some people (LIKE ME) it has a caffeine-like effect. After being up all night when I took it, I wrote the company and they told me that some of the herds in it do in fact act like caffeine in some people. I think there should be a warning to this efefct on the box.

"WARNING: This will cure your cold just fine. And it better, so you can enjoy the evening when you can't sleep due to Airborne's caffeine-like effect."

Gil, I have never noticed that before and I am usually very sensitive when it comes to drugs!

Only a small percentage of people have that reaction.

I thought I was getting a sore throat and cold two weeks ago and took some Theraflu Daytime Severe Cold. That stuff gives you a good feeling and snapped me back into shape fast. I still wake up with an achy throat in the AM, but feel fine otherwise.

I've mixed Alka Seltzer Cold with Airborne. Both, fizzed together, really do the trick.

Isn't this the same as Echinacea ? Tests have shown that it is virtually worthless and it has almost gone from the shelves. Perhaps Airborne is not a root product. A few drams of McAllan is still the best reliever !!

You're spot on. It is a root product with Echinacea and a few other random items like ginger. However, there are a few helpful boosters in Airborne like Vitamin C. It seems like a brilliant marketing scam actually for a product that, at best, has a placebo-effect. The directions indicate "take at the first sign of a cold." That's really hard to determine so if it works one would think it worked ("wow I used it right on time") but if it doesn't work one can rationalize its lack of efficacy with "I guess I didn't take it soon enough." Many times, supposed cold symptoms aren't really indicators of actual infection so of course Airborne has a chance of "working."

I agree with a few shots of Macallan as a cold remedy. When I was in Scotland, the family I stayed with recommended whisky for when I had the flu. It forced me to sleep which in the end is the best remedy.

...is that it always works for me, unless I have something other than a cold. The makers of Airborne don't make any claims that I am aware of that it helps to cure the flu. I am also smart enough to tell when my symptoms are those of a cold.

Maybe the next time you know for sure that you are getting a cold, you should give it a chance. It isn't that expensive and you can do your own test!

placebo? maybe, but then again 25 years ago the doctors poo-pooed us women for insisting that yogurt helped prevent yeast infections. And since that time it's been medically proven that yogurt does work! or cranberry juice for bladder infections...

I could go on and on...but remember that some of the best remedies are found in plants and minerals ...digitalis and taxol are just two that come to mind.

Also benefits have already been proven with such common things as red wine and garlic.

I really don't think of it as a placebo.
When you read everything that is in it I feel like
I have saved myself from a giant stockpile of different ingredients. It kind of is like giving your body a big shock of all these things which sure can't hurt in shortening the life of a cold.

But wouldn't all that noise give you a headache????

You are right, Gill. Listening to that "Snap. pop and crackle" first thing in the a.m. is NOT good for a hangover !!

Like Karen, I am pretty attuned to cold symptoms and amazingly, attribute Airborne to "nipping" them in the bud, last winter, several times, and just 2 wks ago! Did not work on whatever the Alaska "bug" was, which gave DH 102 fever, and I eventually caught. I'll try it every time at the first sign, to ward off the always previously inevitable bronchitis!

Has anyone tried the "generic" version? Noticed CVS is offering their version, a bit less expensive.
