Karen: I couldn't figure out where this should go, so perhaps you could help me.
Tomorrow should prove a memorable day for us as both the QM2 and the QE2 will be in Sydney Harbour. The QM2 arrives at 7.15am and will berth at Garden Island as it's too large for the Overseas Terminal (for those who've been to Sydney) so the QE2 will berth there. There will be fireworks at 8.40pm and the QM2 leaves at 11pm. I'm surprised she isn't staying longer. The Silver Cloud will also be here.
It was very foggy here early this morning, so here's hoping tomorrow is clear.
As I've seen both ships - the QE2 here before and the QM2 sailing out of New York (ho hum), I'll probably just be a party pooper and watch it on TV, although I'm very tempted to find somewhere where I can see the QE2 sail by the QM2.
I'll tune in here though in case someone is clever enough to get any webcams going!

They always do special things when Regent ships pass by each other. First time I experienced it was in Dubrovnik when Song of Flower was leaving the fleet, and that was dramatic. Next time was a meeting of Voyager and Mariner, I think on PARTY, Panama Canal trip?
I would hope that Cunard would do the same!

Lee...I hope the weather was favorable for the Queens today.
One of my most vivid cruising memories was our arrival in Sidney Harbor 2 days before the Olympics....we arrived as the full moon was setting behind the Harbor bridge and the sun was coming up behind us (or was it the opposite - not quite sure) but I get goosebumps every time I think about it. More than half the passengers were Aussies and we all felt like it was a homecoming for us. They were singing Waltzing Matilda and the fireboats were spraying a welcome to beat all welcomes! The excitement of the coming Olympics was also part of it - the Aussies were popping their buttons with pride!
You live in such a wonderful part of the world!

Yes, Betty, but hard to try to convince the choir on the other side! However, that partner and his wife did an east coast (Savannah, Charleston and the like) cruise next time on a really small ship. Her comment to me? They still all drink a lot!

4,309 (3056 max guests/1253 crew) sure seems like a heck of a lot of people to me!

Hi "I Travel Now" (sorry don't know your name: You were so lucky to be here for the Olympics - it was such a magical time. You're right - we all were 'popping our buttons with pride' and yes, the sun would have been coming up behind you when you sailed towards the Harbour Bridge. It was a beautiful day here yesterday, perhaps a tad hot but not enough to worry anyone. I haven't tried this website yet, so hope it's worth a look: www.news.com.au/dailytelegraph I can't remember if there was supposed to be a 'dot' between the 'daily' and 'telegraph' but I'm sure you're all bright enough to find the site. Whatever you find will be better than the couple of photos I managed to take. It was a shame it was too large to berth at the Overseas Terminal as Garden Island (the Naval Base) isn't too attractive and awkward to get to, so I just hopped on the Manly ferry and sailed by. I have seen it sail out of NY, which was from a far better position. The authorities underestimated the amount of interest and it was an absolute traffic nightmare the whole day and night. It would have been unbelievable to see the QE2 arrive and the fireworks which followed. Lee
