My wife and I are traveling on our first PG cruise this september. I know it will be a smaller group of people and am wondering if its a wide variety of ages or mostly older couples.
Do people recommend making reservations for dinners and excursions a few months beforehand or can we book stuff when we get there?

Hi Youngcouple and welcome to the board! I have found that the age of passengers on the PG to be the youngest compared to the other ships in the fleet. We saw lots of honeymooner's, which this trip is perfect for!
I always make my excursions as soon as they open up online, if there is something that I really really want to do. As for dinner reservations, I usually only make them if I have plans to dine with a large group.

Youngcouple, wecome to LCT! I think you will probably find other young couples honeymooning right along with you! Also many "young at heart" couples in their 40's and 50's, either honeymooning for a second marriage, or enjoying a special anniversary. We saw both when there several years ago to celebrate my son's college graduation with his girlfriend and my daughter.
Back then, you could not book excursions online, and I got temporarily shut out of some excursions we wanted at first, but they all came through in the end because of cancelations. I would take the advantage you have of booking on-line and go with this, just to avoid a problem. You can do searches on this and other boards to see discussions of what you think you would enjoy.
My favorite place for dinner was L'Etoile, no reservations required. We only booked in Apicus one night, and did that after getting on the ship.

Hi, Youngcouple, and welcome to LCT! My husband and I have been on the PG twice and I know that you will love it. We were in our late 50's, early 60's when we went and I'd say we were a bit beyond the median age range on our sailings. As Karen and jhp mentioned, the PG draws lots of honeymooners so there will be plenty of other young couples on board.
We're avid snorkelers so we booked every snorkeling excursion that was available. Our first trip was in August/September 2004. The second trip was in June 2005 which was just after they began allowing early booking online for specialty restaurants and we took advantage of doing this. We booked our excursions online for both trips. You are not tied into what you book until 24 hours or so before the excursion so there is time to change your mind after you board the ship.
