Wondering if any LCTr's have had recent experience with sewage smells in their suites/decks outside their suites on either the Voyager of Mariner. Further, wondering if this a systemic engineering problem or a one time glitch? The Cruise Critic thread below discusses sewage smells recently (and bad) on both the Voyager and Mariner:

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1530860

We have almost 50 days sailed on the Voyager, another 24 days booked on the Voyager for late March and 32 days booked on the Mariner next December..should we be concerned about certain decks/suites on either ship, like repetitive posters have mentioned on cruise critic?

Greetings Col:

Yes we had that sewage problem but it was back in 2008 and it lasted only about a day.....out of 115 days at sea.

Never experienced similar situation before or after that cruise.

Cheers! Ray

Hi Colonel Wes,

We were just on SPLASH on the Mariner and yes we had a problem with a sewer-type smell. It was detectable in the hallway aft on deck 7 starboard side and also in our cabin (781). It varied from being slightly detectable to really awful on a couple of occasions. We talked to Reception about it and had maintenance in our cabin a few times. They did something in the spare lavatory that seemed to help a bit, but it never lasted. I cannot believe that this won't be addressed promptly and I personally won't worry about it when booking the Mariner in the future. Per usual on CC people are panicking and blowing this out of proportion.....this is a ship and things will not always be perfect....or as Olivia often says.....SHIP HAPPENS!

We had the smell on the odd numbered side aft on Deck 9 on the Mariner on the recent Caribbean cruise. It only happened a couple of times early in the cruise and Engineering was on it quickly.

LOL, Kathy, but I don't want ship to happen on my cruise in April, as we are on deck 7, just forward of the aft elevator! I've had this before in the past, and like you said, it was not a constant, and not a reason I would ever cancel.

So I guess the question is: is the smell gone on both the Voyager and the Mariner?

We've had that type of smell, fleetingly, on several different ships and cruise lines. In many cases, although it was a "sewage" type smell, it seemed to be coming from the ship's smoke stack. I just figured they were incinerating garbage or something. It never lasted for more than a few hours. We didn't have it at all on the Navigator in October.

Thanks Ray (hooah), Kathy, Jim, Olivia (still waiting to hear you booked the Nov 2013 Spirit Crossing--found out 3 more couples besides Doug & Lynn Burns are booking, am sure David (englishusa) will book too--sent the sailing to Suzanne to consider for Mark and her) and Peggy..sincerely appreciate your feedback. Believe we are good for our Buenos Aires to Miami sailing next December as we are in 738. On Voyager we are in 658 this spring so think we're ok there too. Happy Holidays all!

Wes, I haven't had this problem but maybe it's just because we were lucky as to where our cabin was on the Mariner. I just read on CC that a couple we met during our Mariner cruise last summer had an ongoing problem with sewage smell in their cabin. They complained about it and were offered an air freshener!

Editing to add that this summer we were on Voyager, cabin 716 and had no such issues. By the way, I really liked that location.

I love that little hallway at the front of the Voyager as well. It is so quiet!

I have very fleetingly smelled a sewage smell aboard several different ships as well and never gave it much thought either.
But the current issue on Mariner at least seems to be something more pervasive and serious, at least on deck 7. And that is where our suite is for our Jan 6 cruise. Really hope the issue is solved before then.
We were in 746 last year on Mariner and had no problems, but we are a little further back this time.

Wes/Ida - we were just on Mariner for Splash in 1034 aft and we did smell a sewage type spell a few times in the hallway, but never in our cabin. I think that smell can happen on any ship at certain times, but I didn't think it was an issue at all. That is so great that you have so many cruises booked!!

Happy Holidays everyone!!

Susan

Hi Rachel, Susan/Jeff; Thanks so much for adding your recent experience..we are mid ship on the Mariner next year (738) and somewhat aft deck six on the Voyager in April (658) so think we will be fine.

Susan/Jeff...Silversea has wonderful 16 day Spirit crossing (Barcelona to FLL) Nov 2013. We already have two LCT couples booked and four CC couples. Nice crossing itinerary includes Gibraltar, Bermuda and lots and lots of sea days.

While on "SPLASH" we also would get a quick aroma of sewage sometimes. Not frequent just sometimes. Never noticed it in our cabin or hallway.
Have had it before on other cruises the same way.

Wes,

On CC there is a report by someone who just got on the Voyager (Suite 739) that he has not encountered any off smells.

P.S. Thanks for the heads up on the Canon S95 deal at Amazon. At $200 less than a S100, it was a no-brainer. :D

I agree with jhp. Voyager's suites forward of the forward elevators are terrific. We were there on deck 8 and then deck 7 for our two World Cruises (2007 & 2010). Very quiet, no back and forth traffic. Also close to the atrium steps, Obervation Lounge, bridge, photo ops at the bow of ship and the four ganged elevators. Never noticed any sewer smells that came from time-to- time in other areas...to me the smells seemed to be mostly after ship was, or had been, in port for awhile.

Were just in 780 Aft on Mariner. One day I had a whiff out side my room but nothing to even complain about.

We were in 883 on Mariner. The smell was so bad on several days that my mom and I were both quite Sick. She really could not handle it. It was there for much of the cruise. A cabin on the even number side had a major sewage leak in their room as well.

Jim, Dave, Larry, Kathy, Tina; Thanks much for the personal smell updates. Dave (re: S95, u'r very welcome).

Tina..so very sorry you had to endure the sewage smell and youth mother got sick...sure do hope Regent makes it right.

On review seems like there maybe a systemic issue with sewage--a problem exists on the aft area of decks 7,8 of the Mariner that rears it's smelly head off and on.

I think so. My understanding is that there was a blockage in the system but that they were having problems fixing it.
