Ngaire,
Could you clarify if the onboard booking discount is applicable to all cruises ( except for some of those 2 for 1 like the recently discounted Baltic voyages)?
Someone just posted in CC that now only some cruises qualify for applying the onboard booking discount.
Thank You!

Yes, I was wondering about this too. Someone over there is saying that the onboard booking discount only applies to certain cruises, and that if you have a cruise booked onboard, if you switch cruises you could lose it.

I think this is one for Ngaire to answer, and no one to speculate. But I think she is on her way to India! So we will find out in time. Things change all the time. Perhaps this has too, I sure hope not.

FWIW, I believe it can be used on any cruise (never had it not apply), and I can definately tell you it is transferable. In Sep 05, we booked a "place-holder" cruise for Dec 2006 since the 2007 schedule wasn't out (the cruise was one we would have done if nothing more interesting showed up early in 2007). We then canceled and switched to leg 3 of the SA cruise in Feb 07. A recent job change presented a conflcit for Feb 07 so we switched again (to the FJORDS cruise). Each time, the 5% on-board was reapplied. Of course, it didn't hurt RSSC's bottom line as the cost of each cruise was quite a bit more than the previous one!
So, while I don't think they advertise this a policy, they seem to be willing to do it.

Ngaire and I just had this conversation when I cancelled SNAP (November 2007 Photography Theme). I'd booked it onboard the PG and they had no cruise consultant. I deposited when we got home - so - when I moved my booking to the Grand Crossing to Nov 2007, the RSSC Rep said I hadn't made an onboard booking and that the 5% wasn't transferable. I had a letter from the PG authorizing the onboard. Ngaire got it done!
Yes, it DEFINITELY is transferable.

While onboard Voyager last fall the cruise consultant (Brian O'Brian) said there were several cruises that did not qualify for onboard booking discounts. I can only recall that certain Baltic and Alaska cruises were not included. That may have changed but this info came straight from the CC. Cheers, Pam

According to the info I got, the only cruises not getting an onboard discount for 2007 are all of July and the first cruise in August to Alaska cruises. What I just realized when rereading the email I got was that the PG wasn't listed at all, so there may or may not also be a few of them. Mea culpa.

Nearly all cruises qualify for the onboard booking. Arlene has that correct.
The transferable aspect though I should explain.
REGULAR ONBOARD BOOKING When you make an onboard booking on the ship you can transfer that all you like, from booking to booking to booking.
ADDING AN ONBOARD BOOKING TO AN EXISTING BOOKING MADE PRIOR TO YOUR EMBARKATION ON THE SHIP. When you book a cruise and then later on when you go on the ship they allow you to add the 5% onbaord booking discount although you already have the cruise booked this is NOT transferable.

That makes sense; they have been nice enough to let us add the discount.

Radisson UK has advised that a 5% onboard discount may be transferred to another cruise provided the amendment is made within 6 months of the date of the original booking. Is it not the same in the USA?

Kathy, In my post I stated CERTAIN cruises to Alaska did not qualify. I could not remember how many as we were not looking at Alaska at the time. Glad yours qualified for the 5% off! Cheers, Pam

English Voyager, not true in the USA. I think there are a lot of small differences for the UK and foreign markets and the USA. Sometimes it is better in the USA and sometimes it is better in the UK or elsewhere in the world.
The issue is that you need to transfer it BEFORE you go into a penalty phase. So by four months prior to the date you have a cruise booked you must cancel the booking and get a refund or transfer it to a cruise at a later date.
