This very nasty storm is close to, and threatening North Queensland. It is now the top intensity and still increasing! Should cross the coast near Cairns on our Friday night. Fingers crossed for everyone in this area.

Karen,
Yes it will be very close to Cairns. We are hoping it reaches land just north of us and looses a bit of its power. However, some computer met models have it curving south and swiping Cairns on its way south. We are all hoping for the former scenario! It has become the strongest storm to ever hit Australia!

Storm has crossed coast just north of Cairns and is weakening. Will be a category 2 as it passes over here later today. Very heavy rain and wind but thankfully not too severe. Phew.

Cyclone has passed over and is weakening as it travels down the Queensland coast. Many roads closed with flooding and fallen trees but no structural damage and, thankfully, no fatalities reported.

Just saw this thread. We were there with a big storm two years ago in Queensland it rained SO HARD. We had to leave a day early to get out or we would have been stuck. Glad everyone is okay.
Makes getting fogged in on Pagoda in Shanghai pretty minor situation. That actually turned out well for most of us.

Frank - I'm late to this thread. Would have followed closely had we not been on our final ski weekend of the season. California-like spring skiing on Saturday followed by 3" of heavy wet snow and sleet on Sunday. Fun way to end the season. Glad you all came through the storm ok.
