Marc, sorry the luggage saga hasn't resolved yet. It's a lesson to all of us to plan for this eventuality, isn't it.
Lauri, I loved your story! That is about the sweetest thing I ever heard of.

One thing that was helpful to me when our luggage was lost was that there was a page in our "booklet" that used to be sent with the docs that had the entire itinerary for the cruise, with local contacts for each port. It was copied and attached to our lost luggage report. I notice that is missing now. However, when we got on the ship, I gave the contact sheet that I was given at the airport "lost luggage desk" to our concierge, and he took it from there. Every day when we got back from touring, the concierge would give me an update.

This definitely has me reconsidering our usual "blithe spirit" habit of checking everything. I'm going to have to check our carry-on bags and maybe get one or two of those rolling dufflebags for trips out of our shopping comfort zone.

ahh the lost luggage. I, too, have astory from Hell. I was interviewing for residency programs and of course my luggage got lost while I was stranded in Chicago. I had to call the program director at his HOME the night before and tell him that I would be late.
Oh I arrived late all right with clothes that I had been wearing for over 2 days and that also had stains on them. Needless to say, I didn't end up at that program. What an embarrasing time that was!

Well Anthony that was THEIR LOSS!!!! I think the lost luggage is traumatic...you have planned and waited for this trip - and then OMG no clothes - Olivia and her daughter Joanna handled it so beautifully on VJ7 - the Mondaes would not handle it well BUT what can you do?????

Denise, Arlene loved your idea of a photo op in uniform; she would love to use it for a new avatar for me. Anthony, loved your story, too. ;)
We are concerned again; ship says luggage was in Atlanta; just got email from Delta saying it was in JFK and will arrive tonight at 10:10pm...we sail at 11:00pm. :b: We are going to head on down now to Guest Relations with email in hand hoping either she was right and we get luggage around 7:30pm tonight OR they wait until late flight from Korea.

Marc,
I bet they'll hold the ship for you. I've seen it done before. It's a reasonable amount of time. We're here with our fingers crossed for you.

Marc, I hope there is an end in sight very soon with this ordeal. You've been beyond patient. Alan and I should learn from your example!
I know how badly you all want your luggage/clothes; however, I can understand Arlene wanting to see her honey dressed in officer's uniform. Yes, a new avatar is in order if you have the "opportunity."
We wish you all the best! Please let us know how you make out with all this.

My horror story was 3+ years ago. I was transferred to Europe and all of my clothes were lost. All I had was a pair of jeans, boots and one shirt and had to start a new job immediately. It took 4 weeks to find my bags. SwissAir was horrible to deal with. Once my company became involved, I got my luggage within days. They only gave me $300 for new clothes.
Marc, while I'm sure this is infuriating, you'll have this story to tell for many years! Our thoughts are with you.

Oh my, what a saga. I've got my fingers crossed!
There was an entire group of people on my Med cruise in May whose luggage didn't arrive on time. There must have been about 20 of them. You could always tell who they were -- they all had Radisson shirts on all the time! And it took several days for it to arrive, too. It was delayed even further because our first three port stops were Canary Islands, Agadir and Casablanca, and I heard something about how they didn't want to try to send the luggage to any of those places to meet up with the ship, or they'd never see it again. So they didn't get it until our first stop on the Continent, which was Malaga.
Hopefully we'll be able to uncross our fingers soon!

Well… still no luggage. We had been told it would be in last night at 10:10 before we sailed at 11. We asked if they would hold the ship; they said “No.†But wait… there is more…
We were out all day sightseeing and when we got back we had more bad news. Seems Delta’s email was wrong. They forgot to account for the dateline, so the luggage is actually going to be coming in on KAL to HK tonight at 10:10. But wait, there is more…
KAL and all the other airlines will not take responsibility to send it into Hanoi, which is our next stop because it is “not safe.†So, KAL is going to transfer it to Cathay Pacific and they are going to send it to Saigon where we will be on Monday. Oh well, what can you do?
However, we had a wonderful sailaway, we have been honoured with an invitation to join the McKeever team for trivia this afternoon, and we might actually have appropriate clothes for formal night tonight.
As we are on our way and can do nothing about our clothes, we will let this thread die and report in on the Grand Pacific IV thread in the future.

Back in 1986 when Ozark Air Lines merged with TWA their was a dispute with the ground people.
I took off from STL on my way to MIA with a bunch of cruise people on a Sat. morn. At cruise I keep pulling the power back to keep the speed for the weight of the airplane....little did I know that I didn't have one piece of luggage on the plane that the paper work said I had. I thought what a good airplane I had....those poor people....I have often wondered when their luggage showed up. jack

Marc, A thought just occurred to me. No need for you and Arlene to pack for ROAR. Just have your luggage sent straight to Africa. It's a mere 179 days away! It might make it by then!
You just know the airlines are having problems when your luggage earns more FF miles than you do!

Marc,
I don't know what to say other than "Wow"! You and Arlene have really been through it. Even for an air frequent traveller like yourself this one's probably about to top the list.
Here's hoping that you've gotten everything safe and sound by now and that your trip is amazing. Can't wait to read all about it when you get back.
