Regent has released the excursion list for CANADA. Booking begins at midnight central time on April 16, 2011. To get the list go to: Excursion List and click on the link entitled, "Receive All Available Tours Via E-mail." Enter an e-mail address and the list will be sent to you. Once folks have perused the list, any suggestions of good excursions to take?

Dave, thanks, I am surprised how many are an additional charge; especially the full day tours without lunch in Boston and New York.
We will be up at midnight on the 16th (thankfully a Friday night) to get our bookings comnplete. I am hoping to make some money selling (on the secondary market) some excursions if, in fact, there are excursions that do sell out and waitlist doesn't clear. ;)

Why does a two hour visit to a museum have a retail cost of $299? GLO-002 PEABODY ESSEX MUSEUM Tour Price: $89.00 Retail Price: $299.00 Date: October 21, 2011 09:00 AM, 01:30 PM Marvel at the outstanding collection of international art in the esteemed Peabody Essex Museum, which was founded in 1799 and now holds nearly a million works of art. Depart from the pier by coach and head west to Salem, one of early Americaʹs most significant seaports. At the end of the 18th century, sea captains here began a collection of ʺnatural and artificial curiositiesʺ from their travels, which grew to become the Peabody Essex Museum. Some of those original artifacts are still on display, along with nearly a million other paintings, sculptures, photographs, drawings, textiles and decorative objects from around the world. The collection contains works from the 1700s to the present. Upon arrival, you are free to tour the museum at your leisure, browsing the exhibits that are of most interest to you. As you tour the various galleries, you might see Native American facemasks, New England folk art, Queen Victoriaʹs embroidered Chinese shawl, an ivory-inlaid writing desk, carvings from Sub-Saharan Africa covered in leopard fur, and rare navigational instruments. This is truly an international collection, representing some of the worldʹs most talented artists. Also housed here are more than 200 Civil War photographs by Matthew Brady, works from Koreaʹs transitional Joseon Dynasty, and several buildings on the National Register of Historic Places that have been reconstructed in the museum. After a visit of just over two hours, you will rejoin your coach and travel back to the pier in Gloucester.

An adult admission to the museum is $15. Salem is about 16 miles from Gloucester so transportation costs should be reasonable. It sounds like an interesting museum to see but not at $89 pp and certainly not at $299 pp.

We have made all our selections; all free except at Bar Harbour. Quebec City is only locale we can fit in two. We are hoping some additional afternoon excursions get added especially in Charleston and Savannah.
See everyone at midnight a week from Friday! :D

OMG!!!! I cannot believe they are charging you for this excursion in Salem.. I am in that area every week and unless they are giving you a surprise lunch with this $89 cost I think its totally unreasonable.... JMO. After paying over $1,000 in excursions on Voyager in February, I know by this example alone that there numbers are totally inflated... I will drive by the Essex museum tomorrow and See if there is a special VIP Package we are unaware of...

I looked at the excursions and what surprised me is that full day excursions that charge over 200 per person don't even include lunch. A trip to Boston/Cambridge, which is about an hour drive? each way...is over $200 per person. You'd do better to rent a car with another couple and park it in Boston and take the T and take a tour there, than to take one of the "included excursions." The Boston excursions look out of whack.
The NYC port excursions look ok, but you can do the NYC/Ellis Island trip for $23 pp. plus cab fare. You could negotiate a black car.

Andi, you were looking at "retail price" not "actual price." NYC/Ellis Island is free and Boston was $89. I agree, though, that the full day Boston and NYC excursions were overpriced both retail and actual price.

Whoops...you are right...thanks for the correction Marc...but $89 pp for a full day tour of Manhattan? You could do a three day pass for that! And $139 RETAIL for statue of Liberty/Ellis Island....absurb. Knowing they get mass discounts on top of this, this is just an insult to list these retail costs. In the past, I have found their retail costs in line with reality and not inflated. I am very surprised.

I'm not staying up until midnight to book excursions, thats for sure. We will probably only do a couple anyway, maybe one in Quebec and maybe one in Saguenay. Possibly one in Halifax, we did all these ports in 2004. In New York, I think Frank and I for sure, and maybe the two couples with us are going to do one of those food/walking tours, which I need to get tickets for and just cab it to the meeting place. We were just in Charleston a year ago, so will probably just get off and wander around and end up at Fleets Landing for lunch. In Savannah, I think againm, we will just take a map and walk to several of the "squares" on our own. Or maybe take a carriage ride, we have been there as well.

Done, twelve excursions each (two at both Quebec City and Saguenay). Only one that cost extra was at Bar Harbour.

LOL Marc, no did not stay up.
Just went on this morning and just finished booking them, got all the ones we wanted no problem, none with surcharge.
Maybe we will be on some of the same ones. If so, lets remember to have one person check in with all the tickets so we can get on the same bus - remember we learned that lesson on FUN2?

We're on the same land and sea tour and definitely want to join the party with the locals -- in fact, we're willing to bag the land and sea tour altogether to spend more time with you guys. Let us know what you suggest. We also got all the tours we wanted with no problem. Anybody else going whale watching in Gloucester?? We whale watch every chance we get--love the whales.

Well we were/are thinking of one of those food and walking tours Andi, you and I talked about this on FUN2, which is at 11:00 and about 3hours. But, we could pass on that if something more fun comes up. We didn't book anything for New York.

I think land and sea lets us out at seaport on southeast side of Manhattan. I then want to head to Tenament Museum and Katz's deli. Then maybe a stop at carnegie to pick up rye break and a couple of pounds of pastrami to go on way back to ship. :D
Peggy, we are also on whale watching. Couldn't see speinding $99 to see a $15 museum.
In total, retail price of our excursions is $1,498 each and total actual cost is $99 each. Given the good price to start with, this is a reasonably priced trip.

Been dealing with this stuff tonight. I hope that my 3 confirmations via email are collective, and all is booked, except I have to go back and book Land and Sea in NYC. Editing to say that on first day of booking, I am waitlisted on 3 excursions, and didn't even choose others that were waitlisted today. Not concerned at all, as I know they will clear eventually. But not a good thing for a new cruiser to get on and find this when trying to book, as they don't know that eventually these things clear.

J&C captjohn, Once you've selected excursions and checked out, you can't modify them via the website. Just call Regent reservations at 877-505-5370 and they'll make the excursion changes you want.

Betty they nearly ALWAYS clear. I get clearances EVERY day for waitlisted excursions. Spend half my day sendign those out to people.
My best guess is they fill up the capacity and then wait for enough people for another departure - then clear them and so it goes on.

Ok, I assume the seaport you refer to is the "South Street SeaPort". If so, it is a quick cab ride to the Tenement Museum or a 20+ minute walk thru parts of NY you'd never see otherwise. That museum is a marvel...but you will have to look at the clock before you take a tour.(which you will want to do!) Katz's deli is almost around the corner. You'll get there with ease. Carnegie Deli might be a very different matter. It is located rather far from Katz' AND the traffic will not be a friend to your cab. You will need to watch your clock closely to make it back onboard in time! But, should you miss the sailing...we have extra room. Would love to have you. (lol)

So Doug, where exactly does that mean the ship docks? At the normal port near the Entripid or at the port in Brooklyn, which I think is the Princess/Cunard new port.
We are thinking of one of those "food and walking tours" of Greenwich village which start at 11am and are about 3hours. Realize we will have to cab it to/from port to meet point, so how much time should we think about allowing to meet the tour on time? Not too worried about getting back. Well other than time with you and Andi. Are you planning on coming onboard for the afternoon?

JoAnn:
I am assuming a normal dock..... west side in the high 40's or low 50's. (That is cross streets for those who care)
The walking tours are wonderful. We've taken a number of them. To be on the safe side, give yourself at least 30 minutes from the west side cruise docks to get there. The walking tours tend to start on time. If you don't pay on line, they tend to like cash. So be sure that you have had time to change your currency....ok, that was a joke. Southern dollars are readily accepted.
If we can come onboard, we'd love to. I have no idea how this works or where all of you will be spread out in NYC! But we will do our best to -at least - wave at you all. (Although, frankly, Regent still owes us a meal at Prime 7..since they never sat us during FUN2!)
But keep in touch & we'll figure it all out.
