I apologize if this is a stupid question The hubbie really wants to do a river cruise in Europe. I looked at the AMA website and all the cruises are listed as 12 or 14 days but the river portion is 7 days and the rest is staying in hotels. Is it possible just to sign up for the 7 day river portion?

I know on the escorted trip in December 2012 we had the option of just the 7 day trip on the boat.

Julie, I took this option on an earlier trip with AMA as well. For some reason, it was a better deal to get a hotel room on my own at the same hotel AMA used, but I had to pay the transfer from Paris to the port.

Yes you can delete the land portion - the hotel through the cruise line is overpriced (like most cruise lines) - you may have to pay for the transfer to the port if you delete the hotel (like Olivia said).

Yes you can just do the cruise portion and book your own land. Have been on AMA twice - great cruiseline!

Thanks all. I want to combine the trip with a trip to Scotland to visit the family and have limited vacation time.

Definitely can do just the river portion. I actually would rec this for people comfortable traveling in Europe independently as you can do the land portion more cost effectively on your own.

Agree, Rachel, it's just that some people for one reason or another feel more comfortable being guided from portal to portal. We so enjoyed Paris on our own independently. Just not for everyone.
