Thank Cheron - I'm sure we'll be okay, although I may have to mix my own drink! <img border="0" alt="[naughty]" title="" src="graemlins/naughty.gif" />

I have been reading the forums at Fodor's; people keep talking about the need to bring toilet paper everywhere. That's one thing I hadn't thought about packing, am I the only one?

We read that also and put some in , but you can always borrow some from the hotel and take it with.

I'll have so many other necessities of life that a roll of TP will fit in just fine, I'm sure. Just call me Beast of Burden.

While on the subject of the necessities of life, ladies, do we trust their hair dryers? I never have.

I am bringing TP. They said that most of the toilets have running water only. Lots of immodium too!

I have read that the best drug for the Mummy misery is a drug called "Antinal" I think I have that correct. It is easy to get in Egypt.

My remedy for "Mummy Mambo" is to only drink BEER...or pure vodka...no ice cubes when out and about.

OK, I am back again, briefly. As to TP...when "pit stops" on the road, they had at all the places, but it cost 1 Egytian pound. I never needed to bring it.
Andi....forget 5 pairs of shoes!!!! You do not need them, in fact, even though I brought quite a few outfits, it seems that all the pictures show me in the same one. Back to shoes, bring a pair or two you can wear with socks or without, in case your feet swell in the heat.
Cameras.....I used both a point and shoot and a small SLR without extra lenses...wide angle to telephoto and did fine with both...try using the "sports" or "action" setting for the light show...it may work better.
Have a great time, and send lots of sea mail
Lynn

Lynn, you are a wealth of info! One outfit...did you never wash it? eauh. You seemed like such a clean old broad on TAP. LOL. Gotta have my shoes. Don't own socks. On to another subject...Susan mentioned typhoid pills and we mentioned to my doc and he is now recommending a shot highly. Anyone else do this?

Wow, Typhoid Shots. Never occurred to me. We had shots in 2006 before an earlier trip. I now find you need to get a new shot every two years. Too late now, leaving tomorrow.

We have had the full Hept A and B shots along with a Polio booster before ROAR 2. I guess at this point just be carefull. We are going with the Princess so I am not worried.

If I can just get Carol to the 43 lb limit I will be happy.

We are leaving tomorrow, too. Never thought about typhoid shots, but think we both had boosters sometime in the not-so-distant past.

Ralph, when do you get in? We get in at 3:45 or so on the 18th.

We get in very late on 3/18 or early on 3/19. Will use most of the 19th to recover from jet lag.

We meet up with Dave and Mary Elaine at CDG who are spending a few days in Paris.

We are leaving tomorrow too - I need to finish packing! Flying through LHR. We arrive in Cairo just before midnight on the 18th. Our plan is also to spend the 19th relaxing at the hotel.

As to typhoid, I don't think we need to worry. If you had the oral vaccine, it's good for 5 years. The shot is good for 2 years. Neither vaccine provides 100% protection. Cipro is the recommended drug if you do manage to contract it. (Ask me how I know......being sick in India is so NOT fun)

Typhoid is transmitted most typically through contaminated water or food. Normal rules for traveling in underdeveloped countries apply: avoid unpasteurized dairy products, raw or undercooked foods (no salad and only fruits you've peeled yourself). Don't eat food from street vendors. In any case, we are traveling with the Princess and staying at very nice places and there are no current reported outbreaks in Egypt.

Can't wait to see everone!

Mary Ellen

Well I had the shot today... & I hate shots!!!!
Andi will have her's on Friday.

Our Doc is good on this stuff. He's been to S Africa based on my say so. But he still injects me with stuff!

Looks like we will be the last team to arrive...

See you all soon

We had typhoid shots before ROAR in 2006, but Jerel found out we needed the booster, so I got it last week. I also hadn't had an H1N1 shot yet, so got it too. My arm was a little sore for a few days!

Joanna - thanks! Wish you & Tony were going too, but we will see you on TUT!

Just for you comfort, last time I went I did not get sick at all and we were there much longer. In fact no one with us got sick and we never lacked for toilet paper.

Wouldn't you know, today I had a toothache and went to see the dentist and he gave me a temporary filling and informed me that I would have to have a root canal next week or my tooth would abcess. I freaked and begged for an appointment this week in between meetings at work. Could you imagine if this had happened next week? Thursday is my day for a root canal. Such fun. What a bday present!

Good news is you can get it done before your trip - always a fear I have of some major dental problem rearing its head on a cruise far away!

Andi. I just came from the dentist where I had a crown put on. Last week, thank goodness, I cracked a tooth. Wouldn't want to face a dentist in Egypt. Not fun for either of us but lucky it happened now not next week. Looking forward to seeing you and piggy backing on your shopping expertise.

Right Joanna! Thanks Pammy! Can't wait to see you...I can't figure out what there is to buy...I will get some cartouches as gifts as they are small and easy to pack. I'll have to see if anything calls me. Good news is my luggage weight came in under 30 lbs. for my big suitcase. This leaves room for purchases. I'm also bringing on a knapsack (for computer) and a carry on (just in case the suitcase doesn't make it). Doug is carrying one of the empty K&D bags in case I decide to purchase something big.

Andi sorry to hear about your root canal but so glad it happened before you left. I'll never forget when I cracked a tooth just before sailing from HK to Vietnam and had to wait several days until we got to Brunei to get it capped. Luckily, he was a top notch dentist, went to USC Dental school !

We'll all be anxious to follow the NILE postings!

Andi, We are sure all will work out just fine. If you or your doc do not think of it, suggest he write you a prescription for an antibotic and pain meds that you can get and take with just in case problems start up. Better to be safe than sorry.

I think I remember that there were ticket documents for the Egypt flights for each person. I would make sure I had both tickets documents.

In my case Carol always wants her own stuff. She is funny that way. See all in a few days. Looks like it might have cooled down a bit from recent weather reports.

Checking in from the Delta Skyclub at JFK, where the computer is old and the internet is SLOW. We could only get boarding passes to JFK this morning, and the agent had to do some kind of override to check our luggage (if we had had to recheck here, I would have just gone back home). Even after we got here, we couldn't get boarding passes until after 3:00 pm. That is just weird.

Flight was smooth, amazingly roomy first class seats for a small jet. I'm charging my Kindle right now, so using their computer to browse.

Here is a reminder for everyone who has to use a slow and iffy internet connection...

Drag your cursor down your LCT post before you hit the "add reply" button to highlight it, right click it and choose copy JUST in case it goes poof after you hit the post it button.

If it does go poof, you can start again by right clicking on the blank spot where you type and choose paste. That way, you won't have to type your whole post again and I don't want to miss a thing!

I switched over to my own computer, and the difference is amazing. I was charging my Kindle, so just used Delta's computer while I was sitting over there.

Hey, can someone advise? I have one big bag coming in under 30 pounds. One small carryon in case my luggage has any issues...has a day's worth of stuff and a knapsack...no purse...for my computer, camera and makeup and books. Is there any issue with these two carryons with the weight limit?

It's your intra Egypt flight to Aswan that might be a problem. I bet the info is in your docs from BK/KD. The international flights are on your own, right? So airline rules apply. So just have to worry about any flights you have within Egypt. Can't wait to hear from everyone as the trip progresses!

No worries
