St. Lucia is beautiful, but the port town is not. We have stayed there for a week and also have been there on cruises. I hope you take a trip out of town (toward the Pitons) and see the what is probably the most beautiful Caribbean island.

We've stayed twice in St. Lucia, and I agree with Merril. If the ship doesn't sail by the Pitons, try to get to see them--perhaps a sailing excursion (though it may be too late already) or even by car. Lunch at Ladera by the Pitons is spectacular.

We enjoyed wandering through the crafts market, bought some interesting looking "chocolate tea" that's in stick form, and you boil it with nutmeg and cinnamon. It's like the Caribbean used to be, before Diamonds International, et al moved into every other store. People were polite and friendly, or avoided our eyes, either way was acceptable.

Pam did not mention that across the bay is a mega Carnival ship and a company I'm not heard of before. Thompson ?? Or something like that. Hard to read the name. Jan and I also took a walk. If we were gone 30 minutes would be saying a lot. Been here before and nothing has changed. Still a dump.

This is my last food question -- I promise. Has anyone tried the scones at tea? They were a bit of a failure on our cruise -- not light or flakey -- kind of a strange yellowish color. Just curious.
Really enjoying seamail!

I'm not a scone lover, and don't always go to tea. But I promise I'll try one in the next couple of days, and get back to you. The color looks fine when I walk past the container, though.

The Thomson ship is a British one. We met a nice Brtish couple on the local bus that we took to Rodney beach that said the ship is British. The Captain did sail by the Pitons this morning at 6:30 for those that were early risers. Turned out to be a nice and relaxing day.
Jackie, I usually eat scones but so far between strawberry and chocohoic tea I haven't gotten around to the scones. I will let you know my review when I do. My husband is Scottish and comes from a long line of bakers so I know a good scone and I have never found a ship that makes a great one but usually they are acceptable.

Today was ziplining in St. Lucia and I lived to tell about it! I made the mistake of stopping short of the next zipline platform and was hanging there in mid air when the next zipliner came and crashed into me. Good thing I didn't see him coming but I did hear Mark and the guide screaming like school girls! I thought my hip was broken but it's not even sore now, I think I was just shaken up pretty bad. The man that slammed into me tried to break but his hand got so hot on the wire he had to let go. ANOTHER fantastic dinner! We had this apps of shrimp bundles in fillo dough and they were just outstanding! I asked Franco for the recipe so I could make them at home. Jackie, I was in Portofinos this morning and I looked at the buffet items to check temps for you. The corned beef hash was boiling so I am assuming it was hot!! Tomorrow is river tubing with Carol and Ralph, last time we went it was a lovely lazy float down the river. This time, it will probably be a raging rapid with my luck!

Ouch! That sounds like it would hurt really bad. Like Joanna - very happy you are OK. Maybe it's time to give up wall climbing AND ziplining. So jealous about the river tubing tomorrow. I was signed up for that in December. I'll get there yet. Tell Ralph we definitely need photos of the 4 of you on this little adventure.

Karen, shame on the people running the ziplining tour. They never should have allowed the next person to begin until you were safely on the platform. So glad that you are ok!
Thanks for checking out the corned beef hash. It was hot when we were there as well. Hope all the food continues to be tasty and hot!

Oh Karen - so glad you are ok. You are so much more adventerous (sp?) than I would ever be. You won't see me ziplining, I'd probably kill myself!! I agree with Jackie, the zipline people should never have let the next person start until you were on the platform.
Have fun river tubing, lets hope for a calm peaceful ride!

Good heavens, Karen! I am relieved you are OK after the zipline snafu.
Enjoy your river tubing and don't forget to bring those shrimp in phyllo dough for the three of you - a great snack!

Karen, I'm so glad you didn't get hurt ziplining! When we did it on MINT Tom stopped too abruptly and threw his shoulder out....he still has problems with it often. The rafting will really be fun....wish we were floating down the river with you!

Boy Karen, were you ever lucky! I hope you're not too sore!
I hope you or someone reported this tour operator. I know it must be tough for Regent to stay on top of tour quality, but there has to be safety standards maintained, first and foremost.

We did the river tubing this morning and it was great fun. A little scary at points but a great deal of fun. The tour included Karen and Mark, Clay, Brooke and Conner, Carol and I along with at least 50 others. Conner who is only six was great. It was special fun to watch how much fun this little guy was having. Carol managed to get herself dumped from the tube twice and Brooke managed one dumping. The rest of us avoiding being dumped. Sorry no pictures as one would really need a water proof camera and none of us did. You got really wet going through some of the rapids. I would do this again but I do not think Carol would. The guides were great and took care of watching everyone and making sure nobody was in serious trouble. We all wore helments and vests. Having a wonderful time on FUN.

We went scuba diving today. Had a wonderful operator with great equipment and went to two unique sites. One was the socerer's wall and it had an incredible vertical drop. Lots of fish and good visibility. Lots of fish on both dives and good divemasters.
Forgot to mention that at the Society party the other evening the cruise consultant shared that during the 22 day dry dock next April not only are they going to do all new soft goods but redo all the restaurants. They are going to keep Portofino where it is and have a separate entrance to the Prime 7 Restaurant they are going to add. So there will be two alternative dining experiences. They are also going to expand the outdoor restaurant on the pool deck.

Haven't gotten to the scones yet, glad Jim and Jan did.
What I really, really don't like is the fact that we can't see the dinner menu on television; that's a biggie. We have to go looking for it at the bars or downstairs at the podium.
BUT, I did see the Compass Rose lunch menu today and the "build your own sandwich" on the back page WAS there. So maybe it's back? Mark won't go to CR for lunch so my seeing it was a fluke; it was in with the dinner menu at Galileo's.

I miss seeing menu's on TV too and put it on my comment card (as did others) Anyone know why they stopped putting it on TV ?
Got an email from a friend (non-LCTer) who is also on your cruise and she said the food and service has been fantastic...better than when she was on about 6 months ago. She practically lives on various luxury cruise ships so a good judge.

They stopped putting them on TV long before the great computer software problem. Used to be on one ship the excuse was that their particular chef wanted leeway to change at will as local food was available. Hard to say. It was fun to be able to read them, though it took forever if it just finished showing what you wanted, and you had to go through the whole thing again!

On the Mariner all the menus are on the Regent Interactive Televison. It is listed as "Dining Options" You can see breakfast, lunch and dinner for all the restaurants.
I cannot remember if the Navigator has the interactive TV but I know for sure the Voyager does. If you have a MENU button on your remote control that is where you will find it along with about 200 movies that you can start and stop on demand. Possible this service is not on the Navigator yet. If it is not there I am sure it will be coming in the future.
Glad you are okay Karen that is one of the fears (one of the many really) that has caused me NOT to do that zip line. I could just see myself getting stuck and having a problem.
Scones: Well I am almost an expert on scones. A very popular goodie in N.Z. I have yet to have a "good" scone on any ship.
To make good scones they have to be beaten extremely fast and put immediately into the oven and served as quickly as possible. Expert scone makers do not do too many at a time. Good scones just melt in your mouth and are very light. To make scones like this is pretty much impossible on a ship. Having them sit in a warmer is not a help either.
So those used to good scones will not be happy with ship scones. Those that are not used to scones may really like them.
They are more like a biscuits than a scone. Not bad just not a good scone.

Ngaire, river tubing with Connor yesterday was so much fun, he was such a little trooper! On the way home on the bus, he wondered out loud if we would make it back in time for lunch. Everyone laughed when he said that, he is a seasoned cruiser now!

We continue to have a great time here on the Navigator. This is a FINE group of people to cruise with. The weather is wonderful. We are in St.Croix. The next time I say that I am bored with cruising the Caribbean I hope you will all remind me how beautiful it is here. :) Larry & I won tokens at Liar's Club last night. It was lots of fun!
