I'm thinking about booking a Cunard transatlantic today for my mum and sister and daughter and I. I'd have to pay in full because it's less than 90 days out. We can $300 per cabin OBC if we pay with Amex Platinum. Only problem is my hubbie won't be going with us and the card is in his name. For those of you that have an additional card, is the number on both cards the same? I'm wondering if I can pay with his card and then put in an application to get an additional card for myself. Or maybe I could just apply today and hope the approval would be same day? It might take a week to actually get the card though which would matter if I got a different number from my hubbie. Anyone have experience with this?

I would think it would be okay but AMEX can typically issue a 2nd card same day and they will overnight it to you.

I can't think of anything that would prevent your husband from paying for your cruise with his card -- why get another one? We only have one Platinum card and I use it all the time even though it has my husband's name on it.

Peggy, I think the person who is paying for the cruise needs to be sailing, maybe I'm wrong about that...

Julie - I can answer this one. The number is the same up to the last four digits, which are different.

Kim - not always. I have accounting clients with Amex Plat and that is not always the case. There is a master account number and then two other random numbers for the cards.

That's interesting, Kathy. I guess there's no consistency, which is a good thing. I have two additional cards and they both have the same account number except for the last 4 digits.

Julie, I think for you all this means that, yes, one way or another the account number would be different.

Thank you all for your replies. If travelling without the hubbie, I guess I need my own card. I'm still on the fence about booking it. It's a nightmare of one way flights for everyone. I don't know why airlines still make purchasing one way flights so difficult and my ff miles are with delta and continental which don't allow one way flights.
