I'm glad you still have your sense of humor, but I can't imagine 3 ER trips, especially Sat. night! You must be wrung out!

Hope Randy continues to feel better, with no after effects!

We left after 2 hours Saturday nite. We saw things that were real odd and it was only 9PM. One can only wonder what came thru the door after that.

Beth, so glad the emergency with Randy is over. I've been in the ER with Alan's dad and it doesn't matter the time or day, always strange in LA!!

Our random stuff: just returned from a nice visit with Alan's mom. His kids flew down from Oregon and all went well. :woh:

The last time I was in the ER, on one side of my sheeted cubicle was a herion addict going through withdrawl and on the other side of me was a guy with a staph infection in his giant humongous elephant man looking foot. I sat there getting stitches in my thumb trying not to listen to the man moaning next to me and trying not to breath deep so I wouldn't sniff up staph germs [Linked Image]

Beth, let's hope that was your last visit for awhile!

I agree Donna, let's get back to randon stuff/new fun:

Randy and I opened our Netflix acct on Sunday. Had fun putting movies in our queue. The first ones should arrive tomorrow.

Also, the teachers come back to school today. Life gets back to normal at work. I'll be good to see s-o-m-e of them.

Anne...could you send some of that great weather our way? Heat index in 100's today. Enjoy that ride for all of us!

The heat's not stopping our walk training, I walked 27 miles this weekend - we had 15 "team" members training together - we give each other moral support and blister care tips! LOL!!

Major sewer work starting at our house tomorrow. Today the "call before you dig" people arrive to do their markings.
The challenge for me - 3 days without sewer services.
The fun for Clay - he will get to do new planting to fix all vegetation destroyed. (As many of you know, he would rather work in the yard than anything else)

Our life is so exciting!!!!!!!!!!

Margo & Joanna and all you other Floridians - hang in there! It has been truly the dog days of summer, hasn't it?

It was a little windier than I thought (a bad thing) but also overcast (a good thing) so I made a 14 mile ride out of it. Passed Gary on the way home. Iron Man will certainly go to the end of the Hook (about 22 miles). I am hitting the shower. Cheers, Anne

Anne, isn't it wonderful? We can go outside today without a snorkel. The humidity is finally gone for a day and maybe it will take the deer flys with it!

I am having an interior decorator come in today to help me pick out new window treatments in our bedroom. Our house is 8 1/2 years old, so I'm ready for something different.

I'm also working with an art glass company to do a custom entryway system and replace those window treatments. Will keep you updated on that.

Have a great day everyone.

Our painter just called and will be here in an hour. It's probably a blessing - now I have to finalize the paint colors and, worse, figure out which trim goes with which paint. How can you have hundreds of shades of off white? And which off whites look good with the other off whites?

I surely don't find that part of it any fun. The best part is when he's done. Then I don't have to face the color chips for several more years. Cheers, Anne

This is one of the worst summers I can remember for humidity - we have the air going constantly- it is exhausting humidity - do 3 errands in and out of car and you can't wait to get home - Margo and Anne: congrats on your biking and walking!! I am impressed and wish I had the discipline to exercise regularly - may have told you one yr my kids gave me a personal trainer at the PV Club for 6 weeks - meet her every morning at 6:30 am - I hated every minute of it - cheered when the 6 weeks ended!!!!!

Trish, I just picked out some honeycomb blinds for our windows (all 3 of them). They should be installed later this week.

Our new bedroom carpet is fantastic! When they ripped out the old carpet there was hardly any padding underneath - it was so thin it looked like a dryer sheet. Now I feel like I'm walking on air.

We're still waiting for the pool to be completed - VERY anxiously awaiting - the canal is almost looking good in this hot weather! (j/k)

At least they are here working right now, setting up the pump & other equipment. Cage should be done end of week/beginning of next. Should be swimming in it by this time next week. ahhhhhhhh!

Is that your sweet way of telling me they are out? Just curious.
Do you think you stand me for 8 days on a cruise? I guess you are about to find out?

I need ideas. I found out a few days ago that a friend is really sick with cancer and she's not eating. I'm making consomme for her today but what else can I offer? Anyone know how to tempt a very sick person to eat?

She's the owner of my dog's sister and she's terminal. We've only known each other since we got our pups a year and a half ago but we have seen a lot of each other since then. They even gave me a key to their house.

I think plantation shutters are an eternal classic. Please inform me if I am wrong.

Marsha, my mom used to make me pastina when I was sick and to this day, it's the only thing I can eat when ill.

Pastina

3 cups chicken broth
1 cup acini di pepe noodles

simmer until nearly all the broth is absorbed, pour into a big mug and add an optional pat of butter on top.

Marsha, when my long time housekeeper/nanny was terminally ill and lost her appetite, I used to bring her egg (baked)custard. (Probably taken from the Joy of Cooking) At the end, it was the only thing she would eat. Karen's recipe sounds a little more fortifying. When I was little, my mother used to make me soft-boiled eggs or chicken noodle soup.

Marsha: When I was sick someone brought me grapefruit jello with sliced green grapes - I think they used lemon jello and then mixed it with grapefruit juice it was delicious and one of the few things that appealed to me - I have googled but can't find a recipe and the person is deceased - I have another friend who might know the recipe I will ask her

That could be it - My friend is looking to see if she has recipe - she recalls it called for small amount of white wine but believe me you could NOT taste it (and you could leave that out) - it was so refreshing I just loved it - hope I can find it for you - sounds like an odd combo but it worked -

Marsha...from what I've been told (and my mother's experience), if your friend has had chemo and radiation, the tastebuds can be effected.

My mother keeps saying everything tastes like sawdust. It's very hard to overcome this - we worked for weeks trying to find something she would eat. Finally her doctor ordered Megasce (sp?). It's an appetite stimulant. She is finally hungry, but still very picky about what she eats. I found some information here that helped us through this time.

Appetite and Cancer Information

On the other hand, if I'm sick I love grilled cheese with cream of tomato soup - it's "mom food" to me, guess that's what makes me feel better.

Good luck,

Margo

Margo, grilled cheese sandwich and cream of tomato soup may not be what my mom fed me when I was sick, but it sure is on my list of what to cook when I come home from work in the winter with no energy and just wanting sustenance!! I probably do that at least once a week for three seasons!

You can't eat grapefruit with some medications - ie Lipitor - so if receipe is found, be sure and check before serving.
