I asked a question on the board the other day but after searching for nearly an hour to see if anyone answered it, cannot find where I put it!
What I wanted to know is what is the difference between being allocated a particular cabin when booking (and can they change that without asking) and a category guarantee? At least I think that was my question!!
My cruise joke follows:
Dear Diary:
MONDAY AFTERNOON: What a wonderful cruise this is going to be. I felt singularly honored today as the Captain asked me to dine at his table tonight.
TUESDAY AFTERNOON: I spent the entire afternoon on the bridge with the Captain. He explained everything he was doing and told me there are 1262 passengers on board and he is responsible for everyone's comfort, safety and having a good time. He is so charming and invited me to dine at his table again tonight.
WEDNESDAY EVENING: The Captain saw me at the pool this afternoon and invited me to have dinner in his cabin. His cabin is very cozy and the dinner was served with the best wines. He made several amorous proposals to me but I stood firm on my moral convictions.
THURSDAY EVENING: Tonight the Captain threatened to sink the ship if I do not give in to his exotic proposals.
FRIDAY MORNING: I saved 1262 lives last night....twice.

LeeAnn, assigned category with cabin number you will get. Category guarantee means you get at least that category or upwards and may not have your cabin assigned until takeoff. Not always what I like, but it is good in that it is a guarantee in price, you will never pay more than what you are getting.
Cruise joke was funny! But you will not find that on RSSC...of course!

Hi Lee,
Following is Ngaire's response to your question. I found it under the original post. I don't know how to link you to that thread so I'm copying and pasting it:
posted April 15, 2005 05:26 PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Once you have a cabin number you are very rarely changed. Even if they want to upgrade you because they want your cabin they call and ask permission.
I used to like guarantees as they used to nearly always result in an upgrade. Now I dont like them.
A guarantee means you get a category to pay BUT you dont know your cabin until it is assigned by RSSC. Most of the time now you get the category you pay for as soon as one opens up you are assigned. However, you dont get any choice on where the cabin is located. Often what is left is the worse cabins that no one else wanted. So you are paying a category price and getting assigned the worse cabin in that category.
Now of course in this case these people are very lucky and getting upgrades. It can happen just not very often these days.
Guarantees are usually only sold when a category is sold out they will sometimes offer a few more cabins at the price of the sold out category as they know a percentage of people will cancel. Also when they want to HOLD cabin assignments such as they are doing for the world cruise. One segment people cannot hold a cabin this way that a full world cruise guest may want.
P.S. Thanks for the joke! :D

Thanks Maria for finding Ngaire's answer. To put me out of my misery, where was it?
Thanks Ngaire for answering - lucky your time wasn't wasted!

Lee,
I'm sure there is an easier way to link you to the whole thread( maybe Karen could teach me!) but don't know what that is. If you click on your name and then click on "view recent posts" you get a list of your posts. I then clicked( at random) on one of your recent ones under a thread called " The suspense is killing me" and there it was!

Olivia, the question was asked by Lee, not LeeAnne. Just clearing up the name confusion! :)
Btw, the guarantee thing sure did work for me. I checked the price of the Class E cabins, and they are literally over $1000 more per person than what we paid!
Anyway, the reason I like the guarantee thing is that, at least on Voyager, the only guarantee they seemed to offer was for Class H, the lowest class on the ship. And there are only ten H cabins, so I figured they are all pretty much the same. But the guarantee price was actually several hundred dollars less than just picking a specific H cabin. And, of course, as it turned out, we ended up getting a cabin several categories above! So I don't see how you can go wrong on an H guarantee. :)

Wow LeeAnne you certainly did well. When I booked from here, a guarantee wasn't even mentioned but I can see where it would be a great idea, especially for the Voyager. I've found out lots of things since finding this board.
Have a great time on your cruise and I'm looking forward to reading all about it. Hope the time on board doesn't go too quickly!
