Yes I know I'm asking again....I'm scheduled for a colonoscopy tomorrow. I have many relatives on both sides of my family who died of the disease around age 60. Part of me knows this is the best thing I can do; part of me is really freaked-out.
I just need Hugs! Thanks guys!!!

Lauri, As a "veteran," I guarantee you the worst part is the prep; it'll all be over before you know it! Good luck; will be thinking of you!

Lauri...I have the same family history.
You're doing the smartest thing possible. It isn't all that bad and trust me, compared to the treatment for cancer, it's a piece of cake.
So hugs to you for taking care of something really important for you and your family!

Lauri,
I hope all goes well. This is one of those things in life that we all dread, and yet it is so very important.
Let us know how everything goes!
Thinking of you!

I am sure all went well, Laurie. I am still trying to figure out why they call the prep Golytely. It's anything but that. Maybe we should have posted this thread under TUSH?

Hey guys, Thanks for all your good thoughts!
The prep wsn't as bad as I feared (no Golytely, Miralax instead) and the procedure was smooth and most importantly...no polyps or other nasty stuff found!!!
So I've got a 5 year reprieve!

Maria - Miralax and GoLytely is the same medication - it's just that Miralax doesn't have the electrolytes that GoLytely does. It's not salty like GoLytely can be and this can make it easier to drink the whole thing though you still need to drink 64 ounces of liquid mixed with the Miralax for most preps.
Congrats you two on the good results!

Thanks Masaki,
That salty taste was like nothing I have tasted before! Very trying. Next time I'll keep Miralax in mind, sounds "better" ( everything is relative!).

From what I understand, Miralax is a less icky version of golytely or even halflytely. I had to take 2 dulcolax in the AM, two more at 3 pm (enough to keep me within 12 feet of the bathroom), the I mixed the Miralax with 64 oz. of Crystal Light and drank 8 oz every 15 minutes over 2 hours. It didn't taste bad...just made the Crystal Light thicker and a tiny bit soapy.
A few hints: 1) get the solution cold 2) try drinking it through a straw 3) buy baby wipes or adult aloe wipes along with Desitin etc. Use early and often. 4) during your clear liquid day; jello and chicken broth are more satisfying than water or gatorade. Regardless, food will take on a whole new meaning to you!
The prep is by far the worst part!
A little propafol and I woke up a happy buzzed person. No memories, no pain, no restrictions other than driving. I was tired the rest of the day; most likely a combo of little sleep, anxiety, and leftover medication.
Once again thank you all. It meant a tremendous amount to me. :lct:

Lauri: I am up late running a scan check for computer - you are a sweetheart but this is a procedure many of us have done often - especially those with "active" cancer problems - much like a root canal - not fun but not end of the world ..happy for your "results" - I had none of your hints but survived - so for those looking to procedure - Have No Fear - it is not bad at all!!!

Joanna and Lauri, I will be having this procedure within the next year I'm sure. I wanted to say thanks for both the "tips" and the reassurance that "it is not bad at all!!!" I had to have an ultrsound procedure several years ago and had to drink gallons (it seemed!!) of water. Now this was just WATER, but I was gagging on it because I knew it was required. That is pretty pathetic, don't you think? Anyway, the thought of having to drink mass quantities of anything is the part that really gets to me. I will be coming back to you Joanna when the time is near, looking for your calming reassurance!! :lct:
