I hope at least a few of us watched the incredible finals at Wimbledon this year.

The Williams sisters put on a ferocious match, worthy among the best of the finals I've seen in the last xx years. They finished up by winning the ladies' doubles. They were truly the pride of America at the Wimbledon Championships this year.

Rafael Nadal just beat Roger Federer in the most amazing match .. and he jumped up over John MacEnroe's announcer's box, hugged his family and then tripped across the roof (can you imagine how loud that was for the announcers) to greet the Prince and Princess of Spain. Longest final men's match on record.

It is the first time in 28 years the winner of the French Open also won at Wimbledon. Bjorn Borg (the last guy to double win the French & Wimbledon) was sitting in the Royal Box to take it all in. Rafa, you're having one amazing kind of run!!

Heartiest congratulations to both of the players today. They played with intensity, ferocity and both deserved to win. They endured 2 rain delays. Roger only broke Nadal's serve once the entire match. Nadal only broke 4 times, and failed two strong opportunities in the 3rd and 4th set tie breaks.

I just got back from being out for a few hours. When I left this morning, Nadal had won the first 2 sets and looked pretty good. As I left, they showed the menacing black clouds on TV but were still playing. Upon returning, I walked in and asked Grant how much Nadal ended up winning by. He'd been working outside and said, "I heard it got exciting." Boy, did we miss out!

We watched today's final and it was amazing!! I am very happy that Nadal won!!

We were at a brunch and front of the TV was most sought after spot - cheers kept going up as I was grazing the buffet, in other room, all by my lonesome

Dena - Tell Grant Gary celebrated Nadal's victory with a 90 minute weed whacking binge next to our dock. We should have sufficient feedstock to open our own cellulosic ethanol still. Give it two weeks & it will all probably grow back. :rolleyes: Nadal won 6-4, 6-4, 6-7, 6-7 and 9-7. Darn good thing .. they would have called the match for darkness if he hadn't won the last game. Federer hit one into the net for the match point victory.

Andrea- glad you caught the match! Hope the training continues on schedule. You go, princess!

Joanna - the crowd at Wimbledon was cheering Rafa the first two sets, then Roger the next two sets. They were simply trying to keep the match going .. and going .. and going. So what was best on the buffet? I recommend strawberries, cream and a Pimm's cup.

I actually missed the middle - like Dena and Grant - I through Rafa had it all wrapped up and I had to run some errands - but I'm happy I saw the end - it was getting pretty dark. I must say Roger is a classy guy - and he's been great for tennis. Rafa is too! I think they will have a wonderful rivalry for the near future.

Can't wait for the US Open!

Joanna - you are the best! Hey, why let beautiful shrimp sit there uneaten? I'd have joined you .. but then you'd have to listen to me 'coach' the players. :D We were so rattled watching Andy Roddick lose to 'Tipsy' we couldn't stop ourselves from 'coaching' Andy the entire match. The Brits sitting around us were more amused watching us sweat the match in Andy's hands than with the match itself. We muttered 'Go IN! Short cross-court drop shot, Andy ... NOW!!' for three hours. Ah, it was a heartbreaker. But ... I digress.

It's quite possible Federer and Nadal get a Sampras-Agassi kind of rivalry going again for a while. That would be simply wonderful for tennis.

I wholeheartedly agree - both Roger and Rafa are classy guys who love tennis. are really skilled, respect one another and never give up. That makes for simply amazing tennis. I also loved seeing Serena and Venus raise their game for Wimbledon. The women's bracket would be sorely lacking were it not for their level of play these days.

How many days 'til the US Open? Methinks both Serena and Roger are going to make a big statement at that tournament or die trying. :app:

Anne - I was thinking of Gary during the match wondering how he was doing! Glad he was able to work out some frustration.

Training is going well - just trying to take it slow and stay injury-free, which is easier said than done with my knees!! Still, I feel more like a runner everyday!

We were playing golf. So, I TIVO'd the match. I put an extra hour so it would record for 7 hours. Because of the rain delays and long play, TIVO missed the last couple of games. We couldn't believe it. :( It was indeed a spectacular match.

What a match - well what I saw of it!! As it started at 10.30pm here, I decided to record it. I set it until 5am and got up at 6.30am to watch it, being careful not to see the TV or listen to the radio, which would give the result away. Because of the rain delays, I managed to miss the last set and all the excitement. Of course, had I turned the TV on as soon as I got out of bed ..... I'm still trying to get over it! Lee
