Here is an interesting article about the future of the PG with some interestng tidbits including this one:

Quote
The new owner will integrate cruises with its shore-based interests, including the development of an island once owned by actor Marlon Brando, due to open in 2012.

Interesting about Tetiaroa. And the varying itineraries. Let's hope they don't diverge too much in style from the original.

They started building the Brando resort when we were on PIP. One of our tours where we canoed around the island told us about the plans for the resort.

I think the interesting element in the article is the comment anyone else who bought the ship would have taken it out of FP! Why would that be? It appears to be that cruising, especially luxury cruising, is a highly specialized form of travel/entertainment best delegated to the specialists in that very limited segment of the industry. My bet is that things take a dive for this small, aging 330 passenger ship of late ill labeled a luxury cruise ship. An excellent exploration/adventure ship yes. Luxury? Don't think so. Pat

I am hoping that the PG gets lots of TLC from its new owners. I will be heartbroken if your prediction is correct. I love the PG and hope to sail her again one day under the new banner. I do not need all of the bells and whistles to appreciate this special, small ship.

The Song of Flower was an was so old and tiny and so beloved. I bet that is how PG fans think of her as well!
I should dig through my pictures that are pre digital age and see if I can find some interior shots of the SoF to scan, they would make the PG look like a teeny bopper! I still think of the SoF as my most luxurious cruise even though we sailed in the standard non-balcony minuscule cabin.

Not sure what is needed to qualify as luxury cruising when one is in a beautiful albeit casual location. The PG suits FP to a T.........just spiffy enough to provide comfort after a day out in the sun and sea.
An adventure/exploration adventure ship....? Please define. The term conjures up vision of OAT or something similar.

Karen, I think you're right. We are just as deeply attached to the ship as the Song of Flower people seem to be. It's been way over 10 years since I booked our first PG trip which was May 2000. It also matters that it was our first cruise and our first trip to FP.

Our 3 times on the PG were so much better than our cruises on the Mariner, Silver Whisper, or Shadow. The service and our experience of "luxury" on the PG exceeded that of our other 3 luxury ships experiences. I didn't read the article, but probably should.

I guess I also don't know what is a luxury cruise ship, but then again I don't really care. The PG is everything I look for in a vacation and I haven't found anything comparable. I hope they don't change anything.
