We are taking my 18 year old niece on a 7 day NCL Barcelona to Barcelona cruise on 6/7/09. I would appreciate any suggestions on private guides for Rome and Florence. We would need to be picked up in Civitavecchia for a tour of Rome and picked up in Livorno for Florence.

Thanks,
Carolyn

we used "LimoinRome" and they were wonderful. Bet they could also do Florence. Our driver was Claudio, another group had Luigi and we all toured together - I posted on this thread the email for Claudio. Just change the thingie at the top from "last 45 days" to "all topics" and you will see it down there not too far.

Have a great time.

Total fluke, JoAnn, I saw his card today in some file - I keep meager notes - Carolyn just asked at right time -

We were in Florence last spring and used the following company for a private tour. They also offer tours in Rome and a number of other cities. They do thematic walking tours which are led by scholars, art historians, architects etc. The tours are geared towards adults as well as families.

We took the Medici tour. Our guide, a PHD candidate studying in Florence, was outstanding. We all wanted to stay for a week and take his tours every day.

Hi Carolyn,

What a lucky niece!

I also want to add my recommendation for Claudio's company, limoinrome. Last year I arranged tours for my group of 8 to Siena/ San Gimignano( from Livorno) and Orvieto (from Civi)through Claudio. The drivers/guides he provided us with were great. Very personable and responsible. I am sorry I didn't write down their names.
I was sorry I didn't get to meet Claudio personally , he was great to deal with through my many e-mails.

WOW Maria - didn't know you had done that private tour thing, but as I said, I was sure Claudio could arrange Florence for sure.

Didn't we all learn an amazing amount from Denise during CROSS - she organized the most amazing private tours I thought!! :app:

Hi JoAnn,

This was for my cruise on Princess with my parents and sister. I think I got Claudio's name from Claudia(thanks Claudia!).

OMG, Denise was fantastic! She is so organized, and took care of all details. I was very thankful for that.

For Florence, last year, I used La Dolce Vita Tours. The owner's name is Fabrizioo Petrangeli. I also used them the year before in Capri. They did everything we wanted to do, and even changed enroute. They were great.
Also used Claudio in Rome.....great!

Thanks, Maria and JoAnn. It took about a year of research and coordination, but it all came together beautifully. We had a great group and a terrific time.

Leslie, I have to concur about our guide in Florence. He was superb. How I wish we could have stayed longer! An incredible trip that we hated to see come to an end!

Denise: I have loved your "info" on trips.
Doubt I'd have energy to participate as you are "get up and go gal".....and I need an afternoon nap. You and Alan get the most out of your trips and we "learning from the best researcher" appreciate you - why these boards are so helpful for "HUH?" like me... J

Thanks, Joanna. You'd be having too much fun to think about napping! The trip to the Mosque in Casablanca's restroom was something Maria, Peggy, JoAnn and I will long remember!

I don't think I have ever in my life laughed so hard over a trip to the restroom.

I was never able to "execute" my mission in that bathroom! My hat is off to you for accomplishing it!

Hey, Maria,

Taking your hat off would have been an easy accomplishment in that restroom . Not so easy with another article of clothing!

Hey girls - I wore a skirt -- piece of cake, just flip it over your head!!! Little did I know. :app: how important that would be!!! Just sitting here laughing and remembering how much fun we all had.

Sorry Carolyn - truly we did not mean to hijack this thread of yours. Hope you have hooked up with someone for a wonderful tour of Rome. Let us all know how it goes.
