I am curious if anyone has stayed at this hotel before. I would like to know what the rooms are like and about the dining options. Is the casino attatched? Would a tux be suitable attire or just a dark suit? thanks!

Karen, there was a discussion of this on the cc board some time ago, I remember. I think Neviboy had comments. Don't know if a search there would work, since it seems to be "broken" over there again with the order of posts.

Karen ~ If I'm remembering correctly, Neville was referring to the high cost of drinks at the Hotel de Paris. He and Hannah had stopped there while we were on the Voyager last October.

You are right, bebop. Hello from our VTC cruise, at home. The hotel is over priced and over rated. Very stuffed shirt and snobbish. The casino is across the road where there is an admission charge and collars and ties and jackets are usually required. On the other side is Cafe de Paris. Again, over priced by French standards. The other large style casino is in the Former Loew's Hotel. I don't know the name, now, but the rooms and service, etc. are comparable to the price, and it is classed as 5 stars. Excellent value. Most views are excellent.

Karen when we were there a few years ago we stayed at the Monte Carlo Grand Hotel and thought it was very nice. It sits right on the water and is next to the casino. We could easily walk to many of the attractions in the area.

Hi Karen! Might be joining you.... We have never stayed there, but have been inside, rest., etc. Very posh! Location cannot be beat, right across from the casino, Cafe de Paris, all designer shops. So many cars parked out front that you probably have never even heard of!! We actually got chased out a couple of years ago....we were videotaping the lobby. They were not happy with us!! A little snobby for our taste, but don't get me wrong, I would probably stay there just for the experience.

It's a little too "over the top" for my taste. Years ago, (I mean YEARS ago) right after college I traveled in Europe for 3 months with a Sorority sister. We stayed at some hovel in Monte Carlo but blew our bucks at dinner at the Hotel de Paris before going to the Casino. There was some film festival in town that night and for about two hours before we dined we sat at a small table in the lobby sipping champagne watching the stars in their designer gowns make their entrance down the grand staircase.
A couple of years ago when the Song was in Monte Carlo I wanted to take Lyn to the hotel to have a glass of champagne at the same table where I sat years before. We were literally chased out of the lobby, even as I tried to explain I was coming in for a cocktail. In a huff we returned to the Song for our champagne...We were more than welcomed back there. The crew told us that they no longer even get off the ship in Monte Carlo due to the prices and attitude.
We did enjoy walking through the marina. Saw some of the largest yachts I have ever seen! If you decide to stay there bear in mind you need VERY deep pockets!

I think we are aiming for over-the-top for this hotel stay. I have heard it's a bit pretentious, and since I had to look up how the spelling of that word, it will be an experience for us :)
Kimmi, Mark and I will be soooo excited if you guys join us on this cruise!

I have just booked this hotel for my over the top experience of 2005. Doing it through AMEX the price is amost 65% less than RSSC wanted. Once again that blankety blank single supplement. AMEX nor the hotel by booking direct charged this fee. Room with a courtyard view but don't care. Will have an ocean view for the next 8 days. The good thing about the high prices - I can't possibly be overserved. Will the Casino let me in, unescorted? I don't mind paying the entrance fee. Just want to see it. Where is Sean Connery when I need him?

We had booked the Hotel De Paris through RSSC as a precruise for November 2005. I recently canceled and booked independently at Hotel Metropole. Does anyone have any info on this hotel? Tripadvisor.com had good reviews but I'm always looking for other critiques.

I'll be interested in all these experiences since we're booked to embark at M-C next June. I too was in Monte Carlo briefly in my post-college backpacker ramblings, and even then, I think I saw enough.
I'm thinking a few days pre-cruise in Nice perhaps instead. All very tentative right now, so waiting on everybody's experiences this summer.

Wendy I will let you knew if I am really in over my head. Now I am starting to wonder if I even have the correct clothes to walk through the lobby. I would not be doing this if it were more than 1 night. I am also booked on your June 2006 cruise, but have family responsibilities which might cause me to cancel. If I get to go, I will just fly in & board for that one. I would rather do a post-cruise in Paris or England.

Betty, are you going to be there for a pre-cruise stay for the 20 October Silversea cruise on the Silver Shadow to Athens? If so, we will be arriving in Monte Carlo on 16 October and will be staying at the Hotel de Paris as well.

Sorry no. Would love to meet for a drink, dinner, brunch. I will be there the night of Oct 21st before boarding the Voyager on the 22nd to Athens. I need to look at your itinerary to see if you all in the same port any day as we are. There are several LCT members on my cruise. Will get back to you.
