Hi Pam!

yes, my husband, Volker, my son Christoph, his wife Charlotte and myself will be on the Voyager, November 30th sailing. Christoph and his wife will be celebrating their first wedding anniversary (they honeymooned on the Paul Gauguin). My husband and I are especially excited about being able to fly to the Mayan ruins, Tikal in Guatemala. We lived in Guatemala for over 20 years, our sons were born there and during those years we traveled to Tikal several times. It will be Christoph's first trip to the ruins. I'll let you know later which cabins we're in. We're looking forward to meeting you.

Hi Barbara,

We looking forward to meeting you and your son and respective spouses!

Cheers, Pam

PS It sounds like we should put Tikal on our shore excursion list!

Barbara, how exciting for you! We have the same itinarary in December, and have been musing about Tikal. But it sounds like a long tiring day. I presume it will be hot and humid at Tikal itself as well? At the moment I'm thinking we'll do Chacchoben in Belize instead. My husband David saw Chicken Itza many years ago, and wants to take me to some Mayan ruin or other, but I'm worried that Tikal would be too much for us, heat and walking and climbing-wise.

Wendy, although one of the most fascinating ruins we've explored, it does make for a very long and tiring day. We used to fly from Guatemala City up to Tikal to spend the day. It's always hot and humid but since we live in Florida now maybe it won't bother us so much this time. I checked on the excursions, it's an hour flight from the port, then another hour on a bus plus at least 2 1/2 miles of walking (no vehicles allowed in the ruins, all visiting is done on foot) and that doesn't even take into account all the climbing you can do up the temples for an incredible view of the other temple tops poking out of the jungle. Tikal is the largest known mayan city and has been a national monument since 1970. The ruins cover about 24 sq. kms. and only about 20% have been excavated. They are a literal gem and so worth the effort but yes, we might not be able to get out of bed the next day! :)

We are throwing caution to the wind and sailing on Norwegian Cruise Line’s Pride of America, November 17-24…cruising the Hawaiian islands, round trip Honolulu, and visiting Hilo, Maui, Kona, and Kauai.

We have only 3 days of vacation left in 2007, so in order to make the most of our time off, we had to use it the week of Thanksgiving. The best cruise itinerary we could find during that time was NCL! We’ve never cruised a “mass market” line but we have researched what we should expect as far as the ship size, number of passengers, dress code, and what we’ll have to pay for – drinks, gratuities, etc. It’s all about expectations, and I think we have a good idea of what to expect. I love the open seating dining policy, and the casual dress code will be nice, just because of the region we’ll be in…can’t imagine lugging a tux and gown to the islands! ;)

The best part is, we get to go to Hawaii!!! :woh: We have never been there!

Kristin - agree that it will be what you make of it, and if you know what to expect, then you will be fine. I'm sure seeing Masaki and Amanda will be an added bonus. They did that cruise last year I think, could probably give you some good insight, if they haven't already.

Have fun. Hawaii, great place to go. <img src="http://smileys.sm...i%253D15%252F15_9_23/image.gif">

You bet, Masaki was the first person I turned to for advice! He and his family were on a different NCL ship (Pride of Aloha, I think), but I am sure the nuances of the Hawaiian NCL fleet are quite similar.

We are definitely looking forward to seeing Hawaii, that is for sure - and now that we live on the West coast, it's a bit easier to get to than before - we have no excuse! ;)

Thanks Barbara for the information on Tikal. We've decided to forego this long excursion (also very pricey, by the way.) Too bad, but we'll content ourselves with Lamanai in Belize (I hope.)

Well, my day started off in a fantastic way - we got a call from NCL about our November Hawaii cruise with an offer for an upsell from AE (penthouse suite) to AA (OWNER'S suite). A pretty big jump for a nominal fee. We've heard that this is a common practice for NCL (upsells such as these), but didn't expect to actually receive the call!!!

It will be nice to have a dining area separate from living area, and both indoor and outdoor dining, and 2 bathrooms. The big bonus is, we'll have a jacuzzi on our balcony that we can enjoy while watching the beautiful Hawaiian islands pass by.

Now...just awaiting the E-docs...YES, that's how they do it...no luxury experience there, but oh well! :(
