Derby is always the 1st Saturday in May. Louisville puts on the dog for almost the entire month before & Derby Eve is even a school holiday. That is the day they run The Oaks. Derby is The Run for the Roses. The Oaks is The Lilies for the Fillies. It is nearly impossible to get tickets to either event. Of course, there is always the anything goes infield. The infield is only for the strong of heart & you will never see a horse in person - only on the TV monitors. It is a combination of the worst of spring break & Mardi Gras. As a teen, my son loved it, but I was always thankful to see him arrive home afterwards.
If you ever get the chnace to go to the Derby you should do it at least once. I bet even your eyes will fill with tears when they play "My Old Kentucky Home."

Oh, is this the Kentucky Derby?? I have to admit, Betty, I understood the first sentence of your post and then you lost me for the next 4 sentences afterwards. :D

Betty:

Your Derby party sounds great.

We've never been to Louisville, but we used to live in Saratoga Spring and know many horse owners and trainers...Funnycide was trained there and Marylou Whitney's filly Bird Town won the Oaks last year.

Our special race was Travers, but we loved going to the track any day. It is a beautiful old grandstand and clubhouse. All the ladies wear hats - a special time every summer when you feel like you've stepped back into the past.

OK after searching for a while I finally figured out where many of you are staying.

Add Paige and myself to the list for those staying at the Westin LAX, although our flight does not arrive until 8:00 PM. Maybe we can catch you guys somewhere that evening for introductions and a few drinks.

Thanks Todd for the excellent Priceline help!

Can we all fit into one van with our luggage? If not, we can always make other arrangements as needed.

We will work on the transportation to the ship when we get closer to our cruise. We have received a price quote that was favorable for us to go as a group.
Does Marcie have you on the list of those going and cabin number? That is page one of the other message that she started.
Opps you are right. Your name is the first one on the list.

You have mentioned that before.
Hope you decide to join us at the Westin.
I think we have others that said their flights were between 7 and 8:30 pm.

We can party all night long! Technically all we need to do is stumble into a van that get's us to the Mariner.

When you are typing your reply you will notice to the left of the screen where it says
Instant Graemlins.
Click on that and they will pop up and you can pick the ones you want to use. <img border="0" alt="[12]" title="" src="graemlins/18.gif" />

Olivia - check out Netflix here . Basically you pay $20/month and set up a rental queue of DVDs that you want to rent. Netflix will ship 3 DVDs to you and you can hang onto them as long as you like to watch. When you're done with each DVD, put it back into its self-addressed postage-paid mailer and mail it off. When Netflix receives it, it'll mail off the next DVD on your rental queue. You can have 3 DVDs out at a time. It's a great service - never rent at Blockbuster any more.

Suzanne, Todd - it's good to know that when I'm renting DVDs through Netflix, I'm contributing to your future cruise budget. :D
