OK, I'm packing to leave for Tahiti tomorrow. We are flying from JFK to Papeete and then staying at the Radisson until we transfer to the ship on Saturday. When do I put on the paper tags? Should we wait until the transfer from the hotel to the ship? And, what address do they expect on those tags? Sorry for the silly questions, but we are newbies.

Jill (my daughter's name!) we never put our paper tags on until we arrive at the city (no more flights) as they can easily get ripped off by the airlines, so yes, wait until you arrive at the hotel. We always put our home address. Hope you have a WONDERFUL time on such a great trip!

Thanks Marcie! I don't know what I would do if I didn't have all of you at this board! Every time I have a question, I say, "I'll check with luxurycruisetalk."

OK, Marcie, so if you are flying to Papeete from Los Angeles and traveling directly to the ship, do you wait until you're in the airport at Papeete to put on the tags? Just curious as I do realize they can get ripped, and I suppose you might have to have your luggage with you through the formalities. Love, Elena

Don't feel alone! We are all quite dependent on getting questions answered around here...many of mine have nothing to do with cruising. It's so nice to have such helpful people who know answers!

I always put them on at home and have never had them ripped off yet. When I get back home, I know that it requires scissors to get them off!!

I use a Avery labels (1"x4") - you can create a whole page of labels in Microsoft Word - 20 to a page and in boldface put the cabin number, name address etc. And then I use a Sharpie (Marker) on the other side with the cabin number too. Then I don't have to fill them out. Makes it VERY easy to do 6-8 luggage tags. Crew always comments how nice it is to read those tags. I put them on when I leave the airport or hotel before heading out to the ship.

Kathy, that's no fun, then I can't spy on your luggage in the airport to look for the familar RSSC tags!

Karen,
Sure you can - I will have the Gold or Grey pleather ones on my bags - just hold off on the paper tags until just before we board.

so if you are flying to Papeete from Los Angeles and traveling directly to the ship, do you wait until you're in the airport at Papeete to put on the tags We always fly in a day or two ahead of the sail day but if I were flying in the same day and going straight to the ship, I would put them on at the airport in Papeete.

Don't feel bad Marcie, we don't put ours on until we arrive at the hotel and are waiting to board the ship. Unless, we are on Regent transportation, then we put them on at the beginning of our trip.

Marcie -
I don't put them on until we're ready to board - I am always concerned that they'll get lost!

We lost one of the paper tags as we got into a cab at the Ft. Lauderdale airport; I saw it as we drove away. But the porters at the pier had some, and I filled out another one.

You really should put them on when you "retrieve" them from the flight into wherever your final city is and they are going to be transported to ship. I always put a tag inside the suitcase with all the real info.. the one outside does not get my home address..real phone or cell phone number but never home address..use your office ..you never know kiddos who is checking.. just a thought.
