Hello everybody,

Being new to this board, and planning for my first RSSC cruise next year, I have done searches and read many of your notes re Voyager.

So I understand that there is little benefit, other than having a butler, which might be problematic, and spending more money, to booking an A or B cabin. However, DH wants to book an A or B.

Would you give me advice on cabin selection from those two categories?

We were in an A 1007 and a B 720. The A was very nice and a good location. Preferred it to 720. I would stay away from the deck 10 suites under the pool area unless you're an early riser.

We were in A1026 in March, Hong Kong to Singapore, and loved it. No noise from the pool at all. Great location, we would ask for this suite every time we plan a cruise.

Pincus, I am assuming that you already know that on the Voyager ( as opposed to Mariner where they are much bigger), those penthouse cabins are only 14 s.ft. bigger than regular cabins. You don't say why DH wants an A or B. I for one have not been convinced that butlers add much, especially on this ship where Penhouse cabins are so much smaller. You can get afternoon treats from room service in standard cabins. But I am value-oriented. I guess it is up to her. My preference is lower and mid-ship, since I am sea-sick prone.

As I have said in my reply to you on another board, I totally agree with jhp. There is very little value on the Voyager in booking a higher category suite than the base category.

We were in 862 last year on WINE and loved it. We decided on the B category because we liked the layout a little better than the standard cabins (although we've been in a standard cabin and they are very nice). The Butler was just icing on the cake, we didn't book for that. Our cabin was great and we have booked a B, 861 for CROSS next year, again because we like the layout better. Our particular Butler was over and above, and did many extra things for us - totally lint brushed Frank's black pants one night, did a great job setting up a cocktail party we had, etc. However, be careful on the Voyager, there is an aft vibration that has been discussed many times on this board, so if you are doing and A or B, and looking towards the aft, try not to go more than two or three cabins from the lobby. As to the differences between A and B, there are none other than deck. We liked deck 8, and would be fine on deck 7. Others like deck 10 and as dougburns said, you do have to be careful about the locations under the pool deck.

Aside from the fact that I too am value-oriented, I would always book something low, amidships for stability reasons. We just did our first Voyager, on deck 6 (G, I think), and the cabin was great. There was lots of rocking and rolling on our voyage, and I was very glad we were as low down as we were.

Reading these boards led me to post the question. Because this is our first Regent cruise, DH wants to make it special, and that's why he thought of the butler service...and the cabin layout difference.

pincus - I mentioned that we had booked 861 for CROSS next year - my clients who booked with us are in 819. Walked up there while on Voyager, we had looked at those and I was worried it was too close to the atrium lobby, but 819 or 818 are fine so I did not have any issues when my clients said they wanted 819. 821 and 820 are in my opinion right at the lobby door. If 819 or 820 aren't available, try 861 or 862. Good luck. I think you will like the cabin - one of the things I liked was the additional window in the sleeping area, which meant the desk and vanity table had natural light.
