I posted this note under the Olympus Airlines? thread, then thought it might be of general interest to those searching for info about airlines, so am re-posting it: Skytrax is a very helpful site to check up on almost any airline: www.airlinequality.com On the home page click on Airlines, and you can find star ratings (only four airlines get a 5-star rating: Cathay Pacific, Malaysia, Qatar Airways and Singapore Airlines, and only three US airlines got even as high as 4 stars: Jet Blue, Frontier and Midwest). The site also rates airports and has seat maps available. They also have dated reviews by travelers for the airlines, and loads of other info. Great site!

Thank you for posting this very informative site! I looked up S.African Airlines and came away with a big grin :D Checked out my seats and read 5 star ratings :) I'm a happy camper.

After reading the message board there, it seems there are lots of complaints about Philidelphia airport. I guess I should of researched it beforehand but when I booked our 007 flights, I picked Philly as a connection because I hate JFK and Newark. Are the lines and congestion as bad as they make it seem? Those who are familar with the airport, will a 2 hour connection between 4 and 6pm be enough time? This particular message below made me wonder, why did this guy collect his luggage between connections? The connection in Philly is quite horrible. After you retrieve your bags, there are huge lines in order to drag them to to the point of collection for your onward flight, several hundered feet away. (I often connect at ORD where the equivalent procedure is a breeze)

Karen, probably referring to a return overseas flight where you have to collect your bags to clear Customs before heading to your final destination.

Karen - I connected through Philadelphia to/from Frankfurt in March. 2 hours is plenty of time connecting outbound (I flew into F terminal (US Express flights) and out on Lufthansa in A terminal). Just make sure you do check your baggage all the way through since security lines at that airport can be horrendous. Also, remember that there is a shuttle bus from F terminal (don't remember which gate its near) to C terminal which takes out quite a bit of walking and allows you to remain "behind security". On the return, yes you need to collect your bags for customs and recheck them and reclear security before your connecting flight. I made it off Lufthansa (although in First Class without any checked bags), through Immigration, through Customs, through a moderately crowded Security check, all the way to F terminal, and onto an earlier flight in about an hour. count Florida - decent site. The site needs to be updated (ie there is no way that the Frankfurt F Terminal for Lufthansa should be rated a 3 while Singapore Airlines Silver Kris Lounge in Singapore rated a 5 - I might agree with the rating if you consider Frankfurt's "old" First class Senator lounges). For more extensive pictures of seats and airline meals, try www.airliners.net .
