Hi! I will be attending a conference in Boston in late May (Staying at the Marriott Copley Place).

Which restaurants would you recommend?
I would appreciate any suggestions you may have for seafood, italian, steak/chicken, etc - love ALL types of food! :hyper:

Ahhh, Boston...so many restaurants...so little time! Go to the North End (Little Italy)for really exceptional Italian food. All the restaurants are wonderful, but I especially love Prezza on Fleet Street or Bricco on Hanover. And don't leave the North End without stopping at Mike's Pastry Shop! Another favorite of ours that's downtown is Mantra. Exceptional continental food and a very chic setting! If you're wandering around Newbury Street stop at Stephanies for lunch or a glass of wine and sit outdoors. And, before you leave the area, have a clam and/or lobster roll...they're unique to the New England area. <img border="0" alt="[beer]" title="" src="graemlins/beer.gif" />

DOMS in Little Italy is super. It is an experience that is utterly unique and charming.

Also, Legal Seafood for fish -- excellent quality and mid priced. Lobsta..and their clam chowda is the best

I also like Fanueil Hall for lunch...that area is super and all the fast food is WONDERFUL..specially the lobsters to go and the clams with bellies.

I lived and worked there and these are my favorite places.

If you go back on the ports thread a month or so, I asked a similar wuestion and got all kinds of responses...

Legal Seafood is not as good as it used to be. It can be hit or miss. There is a restaurant in Fanuiel Hall/Quincy Market that is very upscale for lunch that has incredible food. It's not with the fast food spots. They had a lobster melt served with homemade tomato soup that was the best I've ever had.

You know, I tried finding the old thread that we had going on Boston places to eat and can't find it. Can anybody else? Does LCT automatically drop or delete threads beyond a certain age??

Legal Seafood is a chain. Of course, it has good days & not so good days... and good locations & not so good locations. But it is sort of a standard to compare to.

PS: also at Fanuil Hall... Dugan Park is a great below ground place where Andi & I like to go to have a dozen or 3 oysters and a cold brew.

You might be talking about Kingfish Hall. Not sure if Todd English is still affiliated with it though.

Just in case you don't have time to get to the North End, there are some great restaurants near your hotel too.

Abe & Louie's has the best steak in the city, Azure at the Lenox has wonderful seafood, and if you want to really splurge, Lydia Shire's Excelsior is fantastic. There a tons of great restaurants in the South End, where I live. Let me know if I can help any further. I work in the Hancock tower across the street from the Marriott.

If you like Oysters and other fresh seafood B&G Oyster Bar in the South End is wonderful. Number 9 Park is also excellent seafood and wonderful homemade pastas. L'Espalier is a very romantic French restaurant with a truly outstanding wine list. Via Matta is an excellent Italian restaurant that happens to have outdoor seating if the weather is nice. There's a place called Spire in the Nine Zero Hotel which is run by a fantastic young chef. We also like Excelsior. There are many wonderful restaurants here - the real problem is picking which one to go to. Since calories don't count when you are travelling...... the Four Seasons Hotel has a wonderful dessert buffet on Friday and Saturday nights with lovely piano music in their Bristol Lounge. There's also a place called Finale's that specializes in dessert - it's great if you're going to the theater and don't have time for dessert before the show.

My Boston restaurant picks:

North End - Sage
Seafood Back Bay - Jasper White's Summer Shack
South End - Perdix
Theater District - Trocquet
Someone else paying - Meritage (Boston Hbr Htl)

And many others, including many listed above.

Skipjacks, near Newbury St has the best clam chowder, my daughter and I make their recipe at home. In the Fanuiel Hall area, there is the Union Oyster Bar, and both my daughter's love Mings Blue Ginger which I think is in Cambridge. Durgan Park is the oldest restaurant in the US, supposedly, and they are famous for their "family style" service and their roast beef in the upstairs dining room. Love Boston!!!

Skipjack's also has the best rolls - hot & fresh, with just a little butter. Miriam, it's about a 5 minute walk from your hotel, through Copley Square.

B&G Oysters is fantastic too - in fact, I might need to go there tonight. 80 degree weather, a long stressful week - the perfect ending!

Thanks for your welcome Karen & Masaki! I've been lurking for the past month or so. I don't have a luxury cruise in the works yet (hubby is all about the land vacation right now), but you can't keep a good princess down!

Oh, and I saw your post about Hawaii restaurants Masaki - full of good information. We're spending two weeks there in November!

Again, thanks for your suggestions. It looks like there will be some major calorie consumption on this trip.

Thanks for trying, Margo ... but the thread that I remember talked about various places to eat seafood. I remember that we had talked about the pros and cons of Legal Seafood in that thread as well and there were some good recommendations for places to eat that I'm sad to say that I didn't copy down at that time, figuring I could pull it from the thread when our cruise came closer. :mecry:

Well, on the bright side, the messages on CC are back in chronological order, it seems. On the dark side (of the moon), now the search function doesn't work at all (gives you error message when you try to search).
