I think for those who do want a cocktail in their cabin, like you Wendy, it would just be easier to bring a couple of pints with you while still having the all inclusive in the bars where the vast majority of drinking and socializing takes place. It seems that the majority of cruisers are either taking their cabin booze home with them or donating it to the crew bar for their parties.

Wendy, I thought about that, too, and I would just bring a bottle with me.

They could also have open bar with the option to purchase a bottle for in room use. I'd be fine with that. Not quite all inclusive but it avoids having to sign for drinks elsewhere.

I like the idea of giving it to the crew for their parties. Do they take opened bottles? I'm sure I'd fix a drink or two during the course of the cruise....

Hi Marci and all, yes, the guy (husband) I'm talking about really did look miserable. I really felt bad for the wife, because she was trying to hard to be upbeat, pleasant and really wanted to socialize a little. When I first spoke about rude people he was one of the ones I was talking about.

I donated all my booze to the crew, we would not risk packing due to breakage and we can only bring in a certain amount anyway 3 bottles (2 bottles plus the champagne) would have been over our limit that we are allowed to bring back into Canada duty free. We are very careful and never exceed what we are allowed.

I agree with everyone about the "all inclusive bar".

Marcie, yes, I can hold my own, I just don't do it often, lol. And also will depend on time frame. In one hour I won't drink that much.

Desert wines are extremely rare these days.

They are not allowed to take open bottles; it all goes down the drain. I don't know if full bottles have to go back into inventory or if the crew can keep them if given as gifts.

As for bringing back excess liquor (US allows only one liter per person now) I just claim it all. Since duty is only a few cents a bottle, I have yet to have customs officer ask me to pay. Even if they do make me pay, it is cheap.

I agree that if you want to have something in your cabin bring it with you. Then the rest all inclusive.

I would think that after a half dozen calls to room service for drinks....they might drop off a bottle. :D

If SilverSeas can do all inclusive and have bottles in the room, why can't Radisson. We sailed on Diamond when all inclusive. No bottles in room. I went down to gift shop and bought a bottle of scotch. I like having a drink while dressing for dinner. Our friends, though, just ordered martinis form room service. I don't know why you couldn't request room bottles, too. Not saying to put two in every room to start; just have them available if requested.

I know I saw empty liquor bottles on the stewardess carts in the corridor on the last WC There are 2 things I don't know (both unimportant) - which cabins they came from or if they were charged to the passenger's account.

My guess is that if liquor is included in the bars, asking for a bottle in your cabin is still included.

I would think for health and security reasons they'd be crazy to drink bottles that had been opened....unopened fine -

I only know that when we've given opened and unopened bottles to our room stewardess she seemed sincerely elated. One of them mentioned that they were going straight to the crew bar even the opened one??

Interesting Marcie we asked, too, what happens and were told has to poured out if opened - maybe that is the rule but not enforced - I'm sure if I were a kid working on ship I'd find a way to get that booze to the crew - our kids became so clever at refilling our booze bottles when they were in high school - or thought they were clever -

Lawence LOL at backstrokes!

Like Marc says SS manages to offer in-room bar set-up as a part of their all-inclusive policy. Like Marc, I enjoy that, a drink while getting dressed, or when I come back to the cabin and sit out on the balcony before bed when I don't take in a show or anything after dinner. Take away one thing, and you have another group to complain. But on Voyager shakedown, no in room-set up yet free bar, I just went to the grocery store near the pier and got what I wanted for no more than $10-15. Not a problem. I could live with that, but it might be considered nickel-diming to others.

The alcohol would kill everything though. Or that's how I would rationalize it!

I don't think employees on this line would think anyone was out to "out" them...poisoning the bottles. We just leave those bottles behind because we don't want to bring them back for whatever reason, breakage, weight, whatever. If I were young and an employee, no way I wouldn't take it down to the employee bar! Sorry if I offend. We are just not that kind of people on these ships, and would love to see them have their good time.

we know we're all nice ---Rad must have some internal issues where they tell them not to use opened bottles - why else would they tell me unopened has to be throw away?

Joanna....we have to remember from all our cruises and talking to the officers... about that "chat board" and other names they have for us. Yes, I think they listen and hear. However, it might be more the officers for service related stuff and comments more than the powers that be. I tried awhile ago to reach Marc Conroy about an issue I thought was important (I NEVER e-mailed him except a couple of times after the Voyager shakedown) Now I am not able to reach him. Maybe too much exposure and he just shut it off. Would be nice to find out why.

You can be sure someone reads them & at least the really juicy tidbits get passed around. It an office and plus several floating offices. They can't talk about what happened on Lost or the Amazing Race, but they can sure talk about what they read here.

Boy, this is a long thread! I think someone said this above, but on the PG I was told by the cruise director that the booze could not be donated to the staff, it was not allowed (not that alot of half-empty bottles don't make their way to the crew's quarters, I would imagine.)

I know several officers that enjoy reading what they refer to as our "Chat Box" and then later will quote you on something you said, all in fun. I'm quite certain that M.C. probably checks this once in awhile but maybe not on a regular basis.
