My husband broke 2 bones in his foot. He had surgery this afternoon. He said we are still leaving on Sat. He's been planning this cruise since the summer and nothing is going to keep him from going. He said he'd rather sit on the deck of the PG than sit at home watching it snow!

I have to say that would be an easy itinerary for someone with some limited mobility. The ship is small and there excursions you can do without walking. There are vehicles that meet right at the tender ports and there are bus type things too right at the docks

I'm with your husband on this one. Warm weather and a cruise will do more to help him then trying to maneuver through snow and cold.

Thanks for all the encouragement. Although I wanted to cancel, I guess we're really leaving on Saturday. Now I have to rethink our packing so I can check almost everything. Janet

I take it the foot is not in plaster. It is just that I have always understood that anyone with recently broken bones encased in plaster required a doctor's letter confirming it was ok to fly.

The Dr. is taking the plaster cast off today and fitting him with a boot. We'll see what happens when we go back to the surgeon this morning.

Janet, I can't imagine a better place to heal! Will he have a cast on? Any way of making it waterproof? The warm salt water would be an excellent place to be for him.

Hi Janet,
So sorry to hear about your husband's broken foot. A relaxing cruise is sure the way to go to speed the healing process!
Four years ago, we had our Med cruise (VOF) all set and ready to go. Three months before we were to leave, I had a nasty slip and fall at work, tearing the tendons in my right ankle. It took forever to heal. I was in a panic as we had our very first trip to Europe on the horizon. I did my very best to walk and do what I wanted in spite of it, even hiking that huge wall in Dubrovnik. The ankle slowed me, but did not stop me. I felt like your husband feels - nothing will stop me from enjoying this long-anticipated trip!
You'll both have a great time in spite of it! Please wish him well for me!
Denise

Yes, there is an almost magical healing power about French Polynesia. Here's an example I've mentioned before, but it is so incredible that nobody believes it.
On our Feb. '03 b.to b., I saw one couple board where the man was in a wheel chair, on oxygen, and generally looked as if intensive care would be more appropriate than a cruise. A few days later, I learned that he sas suffering from ALS. The more days that went by, the more healthy he looked. On the morning of day 6, I saw the man WALKING AROUND the pool area with a bloody mary in his had. I commented to his wife (tastefully) how much healthier he looked now than just a few days before. She said she agreed, and his doctor (via phone) had agreed, and they had booked a second week for that reason.
I swear it's true.
Thanks, Richard

If it were me, I'd go!! I firmly believe there is an emotional component to healing and what more tranquil place is there than French Polynesia. He might have to adjust his activities but he'd have to do that at home, too. Might as well be in paradise.

I sure admire your hubby for not wanting to cancel this long awaited cruise. Go and enjoy it even if all you can do is stay on the ship...far better than being at home thinking "oh gosh today we'd be on the PG". All the best to both you and hubby!!!

Thanks for all the encouragement! My husband got the plaster cast off. He's now in a boot with crutches. The Dr. also gave us a note that he was okay to travel and he gave us a copy of the x-rays just incase we need them. I even made more room in his suitcase by taking out all his "right" shoes/sandals and half of his socks!!Ha Ha! Also, they have issued a winter storm watch for Sat.(4-7 inches of snow.Boy am I glad we're getting out of town.

So good to hear that you're going, Janet and Chris.
Have a great time! Chris, relax and heal that foot in the sunshine rather than a snowstorm!

Wow, that's too bad. In November I was on a cruise and took a bad fall and broke a bone in my ankle and dislocated my shoulder. All this on the 3rd day of a 25-day cruise. But I couldn't think of a better place to be than on a luxurious cruise ship, being waited on!!! Seriously, have a wonderful cruise and you'll be surprised how well he's going to do; and what a good excuse not to HAVE to do anything!!! Enjoy Esther

When we were on the Diamond 02/15/05 a lady was on the cruise with her son. As they were getting onto the tender in St. Barts the tender did some weird things and she got her foot caught between the ship and tender. Broke it. Boy did she receive wonderful personal service for the rest of the cruise.
