See link below for what looked like certain doom...telephoto from Fort San Cristobal of the Navigator entering San Juan harbor past El Morro. The channel passes quite close to El Morro so form a distance, the effect was dramatic! http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/bSxo_5jfWlCTC1W17-keag?feat=directlink If you'd like some additional photos of it arriving in San Juan, send me a PM (and indicate how big an email you can received in one message).

If we hadn't earlier visited El Morro and seen the location of the channel then it would have been alarming. This was in the middle of 3 days of extraordinarily high surf along the north shore (where the harbor entrance is). Two days earlier, we watched (at least this is my interpretation of what I saw) the Celebrity Solstice (mega-ship) abort an attempt to enter the harbor. The pilot boat came back in and ran the channel several times (testing conditions, I assume) and the Soltice just circled around off-shore for several hours. It did enter and dock a few hours later.
