We get to book our shore excursions this Friday. It seems like one more mile stone to the actual trip. As you know, I can't wait.

I have a question - There is an excursion on Bora Bora called : Island Circumnavigation by Jet Boat. I have looked for information but could not find any posts. Has anyone been on this excursion or heard any positive/negative reviews. We are not the jet ski types and thought maybe this would be an alternate way to see the island. Thanks for any information.

Francine

Francine, it has been so long since I have been on the PG that my memory is bad but we did the jet ski on either Moorea or Bora Bora and loved it. We skied to a little deserted island, got off our skis and explored the other side of the island that had waves crashing on it with left behind the most beautiful sea shells!

The ride isn't scary, you go in single file at a fairly safe speed. This excursion was one of our favorites!!

I agree with Karen. This was one of the best excursions ever. You travel around, stop on a gorgeous sand bar to relax, then travel again and go to an island where you have fresh bananas and coconut and beverage and then travel again. The views and water were unbelievable. If the jet boat offers the same experience, and you are not into jet skis, it may be a lovely experience.

We took a wonderful Sunset Sail on Bora Bora that I highly recommend. I wrote it up in my review and posted some pictures.

We did the Lagoonarium. We took a motorized canoe and it circled the island - stopped half way around, we stopped a the Lagoonarium and snorkled there and then afterward did the other half. It was a beautiful excursion.

Hi Francine! We did two excurions: the shark and ray feeding and the jet ski island circumnaviation. The day we did the jet skis the water was choppy. It was lovely on the calm side of the island; but when we turned the corner .. wham! The seas were high and it was tough to see anything, let alone that side of the island. Conclusion? The jet ski all depends on water conditions the day you are in Bora Bora. We loved the shark and ray feeding. Enjoy your trip - it's a wonderful cruise.

Cheers, Anne

We also did the jet ski on BOra Bora and it too was choppy. I would suggest doing it in Moorea. We had some nearby passengers take the jet ski boat ride and they loved it over the jet ski.

I know it sounds ridiculous but I am scared to death of jet skis. One of my former student's brothers was killed when he fell off the rear of a jet ski and I think I have that in my mind. Just one of my phobias (heights and bridges are two others). He was probably doing some teenage crazy thing but ... anyway.

If we had high seas like Anne - you can imagine my angst (sp?) :)

I have heard so many great things about the jet ski excursion I was hoping somebody would know if the jet boat excursion was similar. I think we probably will sign up and see. It can't be horrible - you're on a boat in Bora Bora, after all.

You are so great in sharing all your wisdom. I hope I can help someone when we get back April 1!!!

Thank you so much, Francine

One of my favorite memories was roaring around
Bora Bora on the jet ski with my sister-in-law hanging on desperately and watching Gretchen and
George go roaring past on their ski. Gretchen
was driving and did a snap-roll that threw George
about 15 feet into the air - all I saw was this
little brown Greek body spread-eagled against the
Tahitian sun. George landed with a splash, our guide pulled up alongside Gretchen and said "What you do lady?, What you do?"
Her mouth shifted into gear and whilst she was
explaining to everyone that George was at fault
the ski was overturned - George, Saint that he was, never said a thing - just shoved his poor
wife in the backside to try to get her back onto the jet ski.

One of my fondest memories - please by all means, take the jet ski trip - well worth it !!!

There are some private boat tours around Bora Bora in an outboard motor boat with a Bimini top. We booked ours through the Bora Bora Lagoon Resort where we stayed pre cruise. The tour lasts about 3 hours. You can probably arrange one at the marina where the tender drops you off.

If by jet ski you are refering to the waverunner circumnavigation around Bora Bora, then

Do it, do it , do it.

It was by far the best excursion we did without a scuba tank on our back of our 14 days in French Polynesia.

We went in August and found the seas to be quite calm and we had a blast.

Plus, think of how cool the following conversation was two months after we returned:

Friend 1: My wife and I went down to the lake and rode waverunners.

Friend 2: Oh, really. I've been thinking of doing that sometime. Jan, have you ever been on a waverunner.

Me (with huge grin): Sure, just this past August Tracey and I rode one around Bora Bora.

Friend 1 and 2: (stares of envy)

Do it. You'll have a great time.

Jan - what a great scenario. Funny! I am going to go for it! You all convinced to do it. I'm a middle school teacher so I could bring back a picture of me on the waverunner and have it blown up poster size. The kids would all exclaim "Mrs E! on a jet ski"!!! They would get a hoot. They all want to go to Tahiti with me now so you can imagine after they see that scene. The picture of me in a swimsuit could present another problem - I am not young anymore and my 54 year old body shows it!

Thanks for all your help! F

Francine,
They are going to put a full-torso life vest on you before they let you sit on that jet ski, so once you get on there, there will be very little body showing! I am short and they gave me the smallest one they had, all the others in the party passed it around and laughed saying it was for a child, but it fit me perfectly without adjustments. That said it came all the way down to my hips. Only legs and arms left to be seen. I am a real chicken and we did the circle Bora Bora jet skis this spring. My husband sprained his ankle slipping on a wet deck (on Voyager) and couldn't drive (he didn't even want to go!) so I wound up driving. It was great. The water was a little rough and I had some sore arms and shoulders the next day from muscling that jet ski, but it was a really great experience. On our excursion, the guide took us over to the pier for Bloody Mary's and took each couple camera and photographed them on their jet ski in front of the sign. You will have a great time and a great souvenir.

Francine,

One of the recent reviews of the PG over on CC mentions this excursion: the writer and her two teens loved it (Sorry, but I'm link-challenged.).

Whatever you do, you will have a fabulous time. Remember all of us when you're noshing on that fabulous Moorea pineapple.
