I just read in CC that the Captain of the Mariner is ill with a viral infection and had to be taken off the ship in Hakodate, Japan. The staff Captain, Fabrizio Rota has taken over. This was reported by a poster who is in the cruise.
Hopefully it is nothing too serious!!

Get well wishes to Captain Phillippe, one of the BEST and NICEST Captains at sea!! Tom and I sure wish him a very speedy recovery.

Captain Phillipe is supposed to come back onboard our second day in Osaka, we were told tonight. From what we've been told, it wasn't a viral infection, but pure exhaustion. He'd been up all night three days in a row -- first the big storm, then two days of dense fog.
The captain was supposedn to change in Hong Kong anyway, and we'd been wondering if that would be a sooner change, but apparently not. The staff captain (whose name I can't spell or pronounce) has been in charge in the interim. That's a lot, since his job as staff captain is big enough as it is.
Tomorrow we're in Yokohama, and many of us have a (long) day trip into Tokyo.
The weather is warming up! Yea!!!

Glad to hear he is doing better. I think I would be exhausted if I had been up three nights in a row too. Well unless I was just partying and could sleep all day!!!
