I'm headed on my first Regent cruise on October 25. I booked air arriving into Rome on October 26 and departing Nice on November 4 (cruise is October 27 - November 3). I think I get into Rome around noon on the day before the cruise and depart Nice at 9 am on the day after the cruise. I don't plan to do much on either end except maybe have a nice meal and rest and get to the airport hassle-free. Any advice on hotels and transportation?

Debbie I just wanted to say welcome to Regent Seven Seas cruises - enjoy the Voyager...we sail on her two weeks after you and Todd disembark.

I am probably going alone. A girlfriend of mine in Virginia may come. Todd is not big on sightseeing. My cruise has no formal nights, which is good for me going alone, as this cruise has no sea days. Looks like you board a week later. I get off on November 3 and head home on November 4.

Seems like there are a lot of similarities yet some differences between Silversea, so I will be doing a comparison review. Meanwhile, I plan to enjoy it. I think you know I have not been to the Mediterannean before.

We will be boarding on Nov 3 when you get off Debbie. Too bad we will miss you. I'm sure you will love Regent.

We stayed at the Bernini Bristol in Rome, and if you go to the Hotel section here, you will see several other suggestions, I think Denise has even mentioned the Holiday Inn in Rome.

We haven't stayed in Monte Carlo, but loved the Fairmont when we saw it, however, it may be a bit pricey for your needs and I don't know of any others there, but again, if you post this on the Hotel section, others may have some great suggestions. There might even be something near the Nice airport that would be reasonable.

Hi Debbie,

We will be embarking as you disembark in Monte Carlo.

When we visited Rome, we stayed at InterContinental Hotel de la Ville Roma, located at the top of the Spanish Steps. Beautiful property with impeccible service and accommodations.

InterContinental Hotel de la Ville Roma

We will be staying at the Holiday Inn in Nice. The hotel is fairly close to the airport and well located if you want to spend the day just wandering.

Holiday Inn Nice

When making your reservations, advise the hotel of your transport needs in an email or phone call. Concierge and/or Front Desk staff can easily arrange transport.

Wishing you a wonderful time on your first Regent cruise!

Denise

Retired and loving it!

We just stayed at the Hotel de Russie in Rome this summer. The property is wonderful with a beautiful garden, something you don't see to often in Rome. The hotel has a spa that is amazing. We have stayed there a few times and it just keeps getting better with each visit. Its a five minute walk to the Spanish Steps, and we walk all over the city from its location at the Piazza del Popolo.

Debbie,
We stayed at the Holiday Inn Nice, that Denise speaks of, when we were there. We loved the location.

Enjoy your wonderful cruise!

If you want a wonderful hotel, with all the bells and whistles, centrally located in Monte Carlo the Hotel Hermitage is spectacular. You will have to mortgage your first born to stay there. You can see the ship from there as well. We had a magnificent experience there and a pass to the casino is included.

My Frommer's Europe Guide is in front of me and in Nice they suggest Hotel Negresco or La Perouse. whic his where we are staying before we cruise on November 3rd. Several of our LCT members have stayed there in the past.

Marc,

The beauty of having no kids is you can spend their inheritance or their college fund on whatever your little heart desires....

Agree with Denise, we have stayed at the Intercontinental De La Ville and loved it. Will probably book it again for June 08 Eastern Med cruise which starts in Rome. FYI, Debbie, since you are travelling alone, I stayed there in a room with my sister and felt perfectly safe at all times.
Kathy, I find that to be one of the very few pluses to aging: kids are on their own and my $ is mine!

My favorite hotel in Rome (actually, the only one I've stayed at in the past ten years) is the Hassler. Right next to, and quite comparable to the de la Ville. The locations is awesome and the sevice is extraordinary...unfortunately, so is the price. Wherever you stay in Rome, its bound to be wonderful. Kind of like restaurant suggestions. I've never ever had a meal in Rome that wasn't outstanding!

Karen,

Your hotel in Rome was the Marcella Royal. I remember because once I looked into it since you had recommended it :)

Editing to add: It looked wonderful but for some reason we ended staying at another place. In Rome we have stayed at Intercontinental De la Ville, Hotel dei Mellini and Hotel Ponte Sisto.

When we did the Monaco to Copenhagen cruise on the Navigtor last year we stayed at the Riviera Marriott Hotel La Porte de Monaco. We found it to be excellent and a good value. While not in the center of Monaco it was on the Marina and you could take the sea walk around the bay and it was a 15 minute walk to the old town and the royal residence.

we just stayed at the Ponte Sisto. Very well located for resturants and walking. Though the rooms are small but newly done as well as the bathroom the location and courtyard for breakfast and drinks made up for it. Great breakfast

We have stayed at the Fairmont (used to be Loew's)in Monte Carlo. Great location, and wonderful breakfast outside on a high terraace overlooking the water. Could see the "Voyager" before we prepared to embark. In Rome, stayed at the Intercontinental de la Ville as well. Good proximity (at the top of the Spanish Steps)for shopping, browsing, and people-watching.
This year we'll be at the Westin Excelsior on the Via Veneto after Venice-Rome trip in October. Although all 3 hotels are pricey, we use AMEX points. The dollar is weak vis-a-vis the Euro, so any hotel will be up in price. Good Luck!

Well, I arrive in Rome at 11 something a.m. I booked Hotel Hassler. It was a splurge, but I want to check it out, and as far as Hassler goes, I got a "deal??". For the return, I booked Le Perouge in Nice at the recommendation of several here. I'll have the day before to see some things in Monaco, so I thought I would book this hotel due to the location and view since my flight departs Nice at 9 am. Thanks for all of the ideas. I think if I do a cruise in this region in the future, I would like to start in Monte Carlo, rather than end there. I think some of you have already caught onto that.

My cabin is 708, category G. I booked an ROS, and I was surprised to already get my cabin assignment yesterday.

We stayed at "The Inn at the Roman Forum" We LOVED it!! It was a small boutique hotel directly behind the Forum ruins. In the basement of our hotel, there was a part of the ruins the management let us wander around in. Very neat. They had a cmplimentary breakfast and you could have comlimentary happy hour at one of their 3 other properties around the city--I think the other 2 were at the Spanish Steps.
