I've been wondering -- Is it standard on RSSC ships to have a chilled bottle of champagne waiting in your cabin on embarkation day? This happened to us when we boarded the Navigator to Bermuda last year. There was no indication it was from our travel agent or anyone else, but it was a 25th anniversary cruise so we thought it might have been related to that if RSSC had been informed by our travel agent. Our only other RSSC cruises so far have been on the Song of Flower, and neither time on that ship were we greeted with a private bottle of champagne (although we were greeted with glasses of champagne on boarding).

Just wondering in anticipation of boarding the Voyager in Copenhagen this summer ....

Priscilla - it was standard for me on both Mariner and Navigator. I had a separate bottle of wine from my TA the first cruise. FYI - the campagne is french- and now sports an RSSC label. So I think the answer is yes.

Yea!!! Thanks Bobbi. I had thought after the Navigator trip that the champagne was standard, but then when it wasn't there on our later SoF trip I thought maybe I was wrong. I guess they just did it a little differently on the Song.

A fun memory on the Navigator was ordering shrimp cocktails and opening the champagne on our balcony -- before we even left port!

I have had the bottle of champagne on all Radisson cruises EXCEPT when we had open bar on Diamond. Perhaps SoF had same policy as they had open bar?

Marc -- Good thought. I bet that's the reason for the different treatment on SoF.

We really liked having the bottle of champagne for a welcome aboard treat that we could enjoy on our balcony.

On DDD, there was no champagne in the room. We wondered if they had discontinued that perk.

Hmmmm ... Karen, that blows the open bar theory. Maybe we'll hear from some other recent cruisers on the other ships.

No champers in the room on the PG last month, either.

Since Bobbi just got back from the Navigator and it was included, I'm thinking maybe we didn't get it on the Diamond because of 2 for 1 pricing? It's the first time on all my cruises that champagne wasn't in the cabin. Not that I ever even open it, but hope this isn't a trend for those who like it.

Olivia and Karen:

Did anyone ask why it wasn't in the room? If so, was it then provided?

On the Mariner this January, our chilled bottle of champagne was in the room waiting for us.

On the Song of Flower, the champagne flowed so freely, we didn't need any in our room.

Hmmm...did those who found a bottle waiting used AMEX to book their cruise??

I'd like to know, maybe we will end up bring a small bottle of Veuve!

Amex was used to pay for the room and no bottle.
Didn't I remember someone saying awhile ago that AMEX has discontinued the room bottle?

We did NOT use Amex for our booking on the Navigator when we DID have champagne. The mystery continues ...

Double HMM

I will let everyone know what happens when we get back. WE did notify RSSC that we are celebrating our anniversary on this cruise. I will still take the little bottle of Veuve we have...won't hurt!

pkd....our Nav cruise was also 2 for 1 - and I DID NOT use AMEX to pay! If it isn't there on my next cruise - I'll feel gyped!(sp?)

I used Amex, but somehow they didn't have my number posted and I thought that was the reason. There has always been a bottle of red wine in addition to the Champagne and a card from AMEX, so I thought both were from the cc company. When the DDD people didn't get it either, I thought a change had been made.

Marc, no I didn't ask about it. Since I don't drink it anyway, I would have felt ungracious if they got it for me and I just left it unopened. It will be interesting to see what happens on Silversea next month. Open bar, champagne still in room on arrival?

This would be a good time for the "Radisson Lurker" to pipe in and tell us the story.

AMX no longer gives a bottle of wine. That is for sure.

I wish I could give you all a clear answer on the champagne but there are inconsistencies at times between the ships. I have learned not to make blanket statements as there is nothing worse than expecting something you dont get and nothing better than getting something you dont expect.

Not sure if this is the Hotel Directors call.

Odd. I've always gotten a bottle of champage. And Dad's as well since he doesn't enjoy it.

The ONLY time I've gotten a bottle of champagne in my room was on VOF last fall (never on Diamond or the Song)

Suzanne - same for us - only time was on VOF - never on the previous 3 Diamond and 1 Song.

First time I did not get the champagne was on the Diamond this past January. Frankly, I didn't miss it - more than enough complimentary champagne elsewhere on the ship during the cruise.

Never received Champagne on the Diamond, and didn't miss or need it. Maybe you all on the VOF were priviledged because it was the Voyager's maiden Year or maybe it had something to do with Miss Ngaire being on board.

The only ship I've sailed is Navigator, and it's been in the room every time. Must be a ship-specific thing.

As I remember we had Champaign on the Mariner along with Red Wine from AMEX...but we were so excited that day, some of the details are hard to recall.

Synopsis so far: SOF never had it (fully inclusive) Diamond used to (except on those few fully inclusive experiments), but now doesn't. All the big ships still have it.

According to Ngaire, red wine from AMEX now gone.

Others on future cruises, let us know!

hello everyone, boy this is really a very nice group. I used to post "elsewhere" and it's nice to see the same names. As for the champagne, we had a nice bottle on voyager last
Sept, but it was from American Express not Radisson. Don't know if that makes any sense or not.

Welcome Cindy! You came at a bad time, we are doing some remodeling and the board is not up to speed just yet. Half of the members are still having a hard time getting to the board. Stick around for a few days and things will be back to normal!

This past December on the Holiday cruise on the Voyager there was a iced bottle of Champagne in the cabin.

I did not use Amex.

On two Mariner voyages and last Oct. on Voyager,
we had a bottle of champagne in the cabin. We shared it at the table on each occasion. We use Discover,

Seems like the trend continues to be that Mariner, Voyager and Navigator have the in-room champagne on arrival, but the Diamond and PG don't. But then there is Cindyr's experience on Voyager last September, where her champagne was from Amex. I guess the best we know is that the policy isn't consistent from ship to ship, and apparently in some cases not even on the same ship. So, as the kids say, whatever .... cheer

hi all, as a "newby" to the diamond, can anyone tell me why the diamond would not get something that the other ships get, what i mean is because it is considered smaller, does the service/perks vary? Another question, and i hesitate to ask it because it sounds well..... "lushish" if you are taking back to back cruises, in essense two sailings, do the infamous "2 bottles" get repleneshed, at the beginning of cruise 2? thanks to everyone....

Cindy, we have had ours replenished on a back to back.

Didn't notice any difference with perks on Diamond. Different internet pricing scheme. Less dining choices.

Cindy,

I've sailed so far only on the Song of Flower, now gone from RSSC's fleet, and the Navigator (will be on Voyager later this year), so I may not be the best to answer your question. However, I think others probably can join me in saying not to let this thread about complementary in-room champagne worry you about receiving fewer perks on the Diamond. A number of posters say the Diamond is their favorite RSSC ship, with a great small-ship ambience, beautiful dining room, great service and friendly captain. Even if there is not welcome aboard champagne in your cabin (and now we're not sure that the champagne is offered consistently on the other ships either), that's a very small thing in the larger scheme of RSSC service. I have very little doubt that you'll be thrilled with your Diamond cruise.

Priscilla,
thanks for the response, it really is true that we can get caught up in the "what did you get that i didn't get" mode. With all the wonderful stuff we got on the Voyager, i'm sure i wouldn't have missed the champage, but we are human right? We are very excited about the Diamond. I just wish the time would go faster!! Thanks for the kind words.
