We are thinking of a few days post Voyager cruise next April. Not having been to the USA,we were wondering which resort you would recommend, and why,and if you have a favourite hotel in the resort of your choice. Look forward to your advices.

Ft.Lauderdale, definitely. Hotels ? Do you want the beach or on the intercoastal waterway or near shopping malls? (I have lived here for 25 years)! What do you want to do ? Just be a beachcomber or go sightseeing ? What interests you ? When I welcomed you I asked what town are you from ?

Ft. Lauderdale, I agree! Hyatt Pier 66 is one of our favorites to stay. Also check out the Marriott Harbor Beach or Lago Mar. Be sure and take a water taxi tour, its a fun way to see some of the awesome homes and just a nice way to spend an hour or so. Of course maybe Neviboy will give you a personal tour from the perspective of a resident. JoAnn :)

Ft. Lauderdale - hands down!! I grew up there and agree with Joann about Pier 66 - even if you don't stay there it's a must to go to the top and have a drink while you revolve around and see the port, airport, downtown, intercoastal and ocean - what a view!!! Las Olas Blvd has some fun shopping, there is a wonderful Riverwalk area - I would highly recommend a few days here.

Yes to Ft. Lauderdale, but if you have time, go down to South Beach for a few hours. Just sit at the News Cafe and watch the world go by! Kind of South Florida's version of the French Riveria!

Many thanks to everyone for their advice. Neviboy, you may have gathered that my silence indicated that I was from the wrong part of the Country ie South. In fact, shame to admit,I am from the wrong county-- Essex.(We have recovered, just about, from the "Essex Girl" reputation.) My question was generalised because I intended to defer doing my "homework" until I had been pointed in the right direction. If the need arises perhaps I can post specific questions on this forum.

How can foreigners say that the English are cold when 3 counties live in and for sex. Middle, Sus and es ?!!! My hotel choice would be a very old but delightful place, Riverview Hotel. It is in the heart of downtown and on the very chic Las Olas Blvd. The water taxi is no doubt the best sightseeing value. I compare this method of seeing the main points with the double decker buses in Barcelona, Helsinki, and some other cities, as well as getting on and off the vaporettas on the Grand canal in Venice. Let me know of anything that you need via e-mail or whatever. Our daughter's office is in the port so it will be no bother to help if you dock in Ft.Laud. Marriot Harbour Bch. and pier 66 are much overpriced, although they are top of the line as far as accomodations are concerned. We always look for hotels with good reputations. After all, they are used for sleeping.

EV, If you are comfortable using Priceline , the Hyatt Pier 66 goes for around $80 a night, quite the bargain! Here is the Bidding for travel page that includes a list of hotels that Priceline uses and the rates for which they can be obtained.

Riverview Hotel is delightful!! We spent 3 nights there a couple of years ago and loved it - shopping right outside your door with many restaurants etc -

Joanna - I think you mean the Riverside Hotel - great small hotel. I use to eat lunch there all the time when I worked downtown FLL. I was just down the street in the Sun-Sentinal Building (I worked for the paper). Las Olas is a great location and lots of great restaurants too. I prefer that area to being on the beach personally. No matter what FLL is a great place to spend some time.
