Question for anybody that has done Malta excursions on Mariner (or Voyager).

I am interested in seeing St John cathedral in Malta. My understanding is that this cathedral is in Valletta. Indeed , there is a Valletta excursion that takes you to that Cathedral. But in reading the description of a couple of other excursions that go to Mdina, they also say that once there they will take you to see St John Cathedral. I believe the Cathedral in Mdina is called St Paul. Is this an error on Regent excursions's description? Anybody has been to Malta recently and taken an excursion through Regent? If so, which excursion and did it take you to St John Cathedral?

In case we want to do our own thing, is it easy to find a taxi at the port. Or is it walking distance from the port to the city?

We did an excursion on Malta that took us to Mdina, St. Paul, and a glass blowing shop. It was OK, but I would have preferred a more in depth tour of St. John's. The good thing is that St. John's is within walking distance (long walk) of where the ship docked (or a very short taxi ride). We did a self guided tour, but wished we had a more in depth tour.

Here are a couple of photos we took of St. John's:

Greetings Maria:

It's been two years since we visited Malta and unfortunately I cannot recall distances between sites as we were coming upon the end of our 2008 World Cruise and certain things were becoming a blur.

Anyway, we loved Malta, we took Regent's Tour - Highlights of Malta for $45 and it included a tour of the Grand Master's Palace; a visit to Valletta's main thoroughfare; St. John's Co-Cathedral...astoundingly beautiful and we were given headsets to listen to our guide; tour of Mdina by bus.

If you haven't over-indulged in photos by this time, here's my photos of our visit.

If you'd like to see the video portion of our visit to Malta, click on link below and as you see Malta follows an Olympic demo on Voyager.(If you wait for it to buffer, you might be able to fast forward)

Malta is so pretty. You can walk uphill to Vallenta and see the cathedral. There are many great seafood restaurants there too. We have been there 3 times and enjoy it everytime. Mdina is a few miles from there. You could take a tour or a taxi. There is a good tour guide named Chris Sheraton. Google him.
