Sheri,
Maybe the Carnival crew members are throwing obnoxious passengers overboard?

I didn't mean to make light of that sad story with my comment!

...but honestly, you would really have to work at it to "fall overboard"...don't you think?

Yes, Sheri, I think one would really have to work at it. But the dumb things people manage to do never ceases to amaze me.

Well, keep in mind that something like this happened on the Paul Gauguin about a year ago as well.

Perhaps the service and food are so bad, folks prefer to leave the ship early?

Y'know, two situations like this in a row...it kinda makes you wonder if the second one could have been prompted by how easily the first one disappeared off the face of the earth. I don't know anything about the passenger & family, of course, but just the raw facts raise questions. It does seem like cruises provide an ideal opportunity to bump off your mate! If it's that easy for someone to go overboard without anyone else seeing, then sheesh, some murderous cheater could just drug up their spouse and, in the middle of the night, tip them over their balcony!

Okay, now y'all are gonna thnk I'm a sicko for even thinking these thoughts...Trust me, I am NOT thinking of tossing my DH overboard!

I saw a lot of this on the local news last night since the Carnival Pride was docked in Long Beach and they were interviewing passengers as they got off. It is all waaaaaaay too bizare! I agree with Sheri, I just don't think it's that easy to go overboard unless you're trying to or being pushed. Most passengers they interviewed felt it was likely a suicide...I agree. It's just all so sad!! If you're suicidal though, why waste your family's $ on a cruise when you could accomplish the same without spending $?

Friends went on a cruise out of Galvenston last Christmas with their 3 older teens (15,17,20+) and the first thing they told me when they got back is "Some guy fell off the 8th deck" while docked at Cozumel. He was not killed but he was drunk. Falling off a party boat my be easier than it seems to us.

But wouldn't he have to be actually climbing up on the railings??

All that aside though, if the fall didn't kill you, can you imagine how scary that would be, out in the middle of a huge ocean with nobody around...especially at night! :(

Yeah Yeah !! Right !!
It's not NECESSARILY someone trying to commit suicide! You MIGHT be an Irish American married to a very strong German who has multiple aggravations and irritations to get rid of !!
You guys all call her the Saint, but I know better!!
All the above explains why I NEVER go near to the railings on any cruise ship! I keep dodging and weaving - aint got me yet !!! So if ever I totally disappear, I got caught!!

Joanna! Yes, best left unsaid. I won't even go into the Amazon River cruise we took years ago!
My golfing friends had some very heavy bets on whether or not I'd return! I was on my VERY best
behavior, I can tell you.. Why is it Joanna that I notice you have the same dreaded fear of shipboard railings? Is the Snake harboring "Oh, what a relief it is" feelings?

Maybe it's a new shore excursion for Carnival and it's included in the cruise fare.

My wife and I write party murder mysteries that we do for groups of between 20 and 40 people where all the party goers have a part. The last two that we wrote both took place during the 1930's and were Murder on the Mauretania and Hijinks on the Hindenburg.

After the mystery that we put on last Saturday night, I said that the next one we write needs to be a current day one where someone goes overboard on a cruise ship and everyone trys to solve it.

Little did I know!!! Man, this is really spooky!!!

Honestly, if you haven't read Carl Hiaasen's book Skinny Dip you should! Both these incidents sound like something right out of the pages of this very funny novel.

We left our copy on the Navigator - hope no one thinks it's a hint!

Sheri, baby !!
Thanks for the nice thoughts! There definitely is a huge amount to squeeze! You might be right though - my great gentle nature is probably the reason I'm still dry!! It's my mouth that keeps getting the rest of the being into trouble!! The Saint and Gretchen say that this is an area I can definitely work on as my new year's resolution - do you think so too?

BTW, the Sheik Christmas presents are ready to be picked up! All loyal members in good standing have but to co-ordinate their visits to obtain this years present. I do hope you'll all be happy and content - the Sheik has spent a lot of time developing the perfect present!! (For those of you who have either been kicked out of the harem, or voluntarily resigned - "Happy Holidays!"

Marty - as prestigious as your name is, I'm not sure if it works for an Asian. I think of an Asian Martin and the only one I can come up with is Martin Yan from Yan Can Cook. Not sure if that's an image we want to shoot for. :)
