Neville emailed this question to me and I don't know what to tell him. Maybe those of you who have been through the canal can help answer? I am not even sure which one of these cams he will appear on. Canal cams

Mike and I need your expert help. We go through at 6 a.m. 7 a.m. your time tomorrow. Please tell us which side to stand. Port or starboard. There is some confusion as yto the location of the camera. We have been on the bridge with the charts and are confused.

Karen,

They will be on the Miraflores cam first, then Gatun on their way out of the canal. I can't tell from the angle either. On the Gatun cam I think you can see Lake Gatun, so I would think they would want to be portside for that one.

Why not have them just go up to the track; then it won't matter.

We just received word from the Captain that we may arrive at the Miraflores Lock as early as 5:30 am MDT. Earlier we had been told it would be 6:00 am. Of course, things could change during the night. But please watch for us. We are planning to have 20+ people out on the top deck (deck 12) with signs. The signs have the letters LCT and CC in 20 inch letters. If possible, try to capture one of the web cam shots and post it here. Hope to see you tomorrow!

Go to starboard side. I don't know if I will be at office my 0730 EDT. Hopefully Karen will be up for the capture. Hopefully you will go through right channel.

Have fun!

We are approaching the Miraflores lock right now. It looks like the camera is pointed to the north so it will not capture the Yoyager while it is in the lock. But it will see it as we exit the lock. We will be on the starboard side holding up our signs.

We are in the first chamber of the Miraflores lock right now. Unfortunately, we are in the west channel (farthest from the camera) and there is an oil tanker in the east channel going the same direction as us. But the tanker is a little ahead of us. They should exit the canal just before us. Then you will be able to see the Voyager exiting behind them.

Mike - the angle of the camera may not show you guys well. I'll try to capture pics but can't guarantee that you'll be visible. Darn that tanker!

Looks like it Karen. Unfortunately, too far away to be able to make out nevi and mike guys. Bummer. I'll try to splice the pics I have together to make a montage of the ship passing through.

We had a radio we used to comunicate with Jamie (the cruise director) who watched us on his computer from on board. The camera angle was not good though. And our internet connectivity went down just as we came into view so the screen did not refresh in time for him to see if it turned out.

We started near the bow and moved back to the stern as the ship passed the view of the camera. And we took a picture on board that we will post later.

Thanks for your efforts. We'll remember you with a drink later today as we pass through the Gatun Lock. We are planning a balcony party from Adrenn's balcony this afternoon.

Posted the montage in Todd's ofoto section - new album called Cruise Stalkings.

(edit: and I had to add it to Karen's site too since I just discovered that ofoto won't let you link pictures off of it)

BTW, Karen or John - if the size of the picture causes formatting on the site to screw up, feel free to resize or eliminate the picture ...

Masaki...great job! My comcast connection went out yesterday and was restored this morning at 9:30 am - I did connect to the internet via phone modem for a while but couldn't do the web cam with any speed.

You captured every moment. Too bad they were so far from the camera.

At least they will have your record of this part of the transit!

We did the best that we could. Mike was running around like a chicken minus a head. My contact was not able to zoom because my e-mail was not sent until 3 p.m. and he had gone home. The computers here were down.
We were all on deck at 5 a.m. with our placards.
At about 11 we tendered to the Gatun Yacht Club and some 2 hr. excursions were arranged. The rest of us had free rum and wine and shopped for t-shirts etc. Then watched native dancers of all sorts and bare breasted Indians. I started dancing but partners were few. Mike let Betty schoca with me and we had a lot of fun.
The next webcam is a deserted dock in Grand Cayman on Sunday. I will keep you all posted on Sat.
The new 2005 figures are available and the cruise office is crowded !!
Yesterday was a complete disaster. San Juan Del Sur is no cruise port. We were lucky (or unlucky) to tender in the rough seas. The 1.5 hrs. ride to Grenada was horrible as was the town and the whole area. But more of that later, and presumably from others. See you all on Sunday.

Just received this from Maggie (Seagurl)...

"We're at Gatun Lake, waiting to exit through the locks -- Capt.Knut Hanssen just announced a 1 hour delay. I'm trying to get my second wind, up this a.m. at 4 so as not to miss the web cam experience. Those of us on board still do not know if our picture was captured as we passed through the Miraflores Locks...

Trying to convince Mr. Seagurl to do an onboard booking for the Paul Gaugan (sp?)cruise that Ngaire is putting together for May 21, 2005. adrenn (Ann & Gary) are booked for room 721. I encouraged your Dad to also book you. What do you think? I think your Dad would greatly enjoy cruising with the famous Suzanne. Ann informed him at dinner last night that you were a "Legend" amoung the Radisson crowd!"

Swell, the jig is up...My father is now on to me

Masaki,

Do you still have the original screen captures? Or do you just have the montage of 9 pics you posted? If you still have the original shots, can you e-mail them to me? I would like to keep them in our files.

Thanks for your efforts. It was unfortunate we could not get them to trun the camera towards the lock so we would be closer. We had big signs but were so far away by the time you could see the ship we were too small. Oh well, we know we were there and we know you were thinking about us.

Thanks again,

Mike

I am afraid that you won't be able to zoom in close enough to see the signs we all held up spelling out LTC and CC. The web cam caught the ship too far to the stern and without enough zoom. We were near the bow. And that is sad, as I don't get up at 6:00 AM for anything (including nuclear attack), but I DID get up to hold up one of the letters.

It is a shame that we don't have a web cam of this, if for nothing else but to show my friends that, yes, there is something I will get up before 6:00 AM for!

Thanks,
Richard :) :) :)

Mike,

As Richard said, the montage of the 9 pictures is at original resolution from the webcam - no resizing was done. I've tried zooming into the pics but unfortunately, no details can be made out at the stern of the ship. I've emailed you the JPG montage ... the original screen caps are long gone, sorry. If you want the original Photoshop montage instead, let me know.
